Pros - clean and close to haad Yao and other nearby beaches. Also a decent value.
Cons - mediocre restaurant, not on beach and the private beach is barely a beach, not a lively atmosphere. Stay on the actual beach if you can afford it.
Close your eyes and imagine a scene with you in it looking out at the ocean, swinging in a hammock, sipping some Thai whiskey or coconut juice. Now add in great local meals prepared by the owner, totally a laid back place. Explore the whole island from here, super beaches, perfect for 4-7 day stay on the island. So nice my 66 year old mother law fell in love with it!
We've stayed here twice in the modern bungalows and would definitely return if we were staying for a few weeks. Both times we've been looking for somewhere cheap so were happy with no hot water or AC. There are other rooms with AC but I can't comment on these.
The rooms are clean enough and are cleaned when you ask.
The staff are great, slight language barrier but we never had a problem with them and always booked everything without issue.
The swimming pool is clean and great for an evening cool off.
The food has always been perfect.
The private beach is nice for a dip, you can cut through High Life next door to get to the main Had Yao beach which is one of the best on Phangan, with excellent snorkeling & swimming.
So in conclusion it's no 5* hotel but is amazing value for money. We paid less than £10 per night when we just turned up, booking in advance will cost more though.
We have stayed a total of three times at Bounty - 2006, 2009, and 2011. We love it here because of the beach - Had Yao - and because of the owners. The food is delicious; I love the red curry, the pork chops, the vegetable fried rice and the spring rolls. There is a private beach but you can also cut through the restaurant next door and go down the stairs to the beach. We always enjoy our stay here and will always go back.
The staff do not give a monkeys about their guests, first came across a lovely lady which made us stay here, never saw her again and had a very young girl to deal with the whole stay.. So unhelpful, they closed the communal area, kitchen and turned off the wifi at dinner time so nowhere to sit or eat and wifi is only available in communal area! Fair enough we are a little out of season but we were in the middle of nowhere, so rather stuck unless you have a bike!
Room was decent enough, basic but served a purpose. We arrived in the dark, advised access to the beach. Only a tiny small beach in a little cove all on its own, depends what you are looking for but a short walk 10 mins to the next bay was much nicer with restaurants on the beach and some atmosphere!
Got served terrible food, when we could actually find someone, mouldy bread, child sized portions and cutlery! my friend became ill they did not care to try to help with anything! Laughing at us! I think their mould made her ill.. Advised we could book a taxi with them at slightly discounted rate, the night before we were meant to leave the young girl could not drive so they could not take us down and we had to just stand and wait on the road for one!!
Stayed 5nights in total, never had clean towels or sheets once either!
Any advice to anyone would be DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! Awful service, disappointing doesnt even cover it! Spoiled the trip for us!! Awful! Awful! Awful!
Simple, clean & cheap fan rooms (can pay more for air conditioning). Nice pool area and restaurant serving good, cheap food. Could watch tv & dvds, and there was free wifi. Staff very helpful. Overall a very nice hotel if you want to relax.
