I was hoping to relive my backpacking days on the island but my wife refused to countenance such an idea and duly booked Coast. I was hoping to pick faults with the hotel and there are some but it has me won over and i am glad my wife booked it.
The room we are in is well appointed, it could do with a few more places to charge phones, ipads etc and with a shelf above the sink, a few more hangers and shelves for clothes and if they actually built out a balcony on the first floor that might have been clever and if the metal key actually did what it says on the plastic key card; but i am splitting hairs. The beds are massive with what feels like egyptian cotton sheets and duvet cover. The mattress is stiff but the softest of all the places we have stayed in thus far. The bathroom is clean and simple. There are plenty of english channels on tv.
The fitness studio smells new and unused. The resistance machines are overcomplicated, but the cardio stuff seems decent with x trainer, bikes and treadmill, It is a shame they jump up the weight of the free weights so quickly (for my wife). Still best gym i saw on the island.
Food in the restaurant is very good, but about twice the price of what you pay in town and there are annoying flies, maybe needs some more fans. Some of the portions are small, so it was a shame there is no desert. Breakfast is excellent with fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and decent coffee.
Next to the restaurant is the pool bar. This and the infinity pool are the feature pieces of the resort. We just had some fruit shakes which were the best we tasted on the trip. I should also say wifi is free and readily available and it has yet to drop as i have experienced a lot in Khao Tao. It says in the in room info that there are kayaks and snorkelling but i did not see any. The resort is facing the beach which has coarse sand and nice warm clear water.
The resort is a 10-15 min walk to haad rin, i might not fancy it too much at night but let's see. The staff are really eager to please and have a mix of english management and thai can do attitude which we havent always experienced on this trip.
In summary some minor faults that i am sure wll be improved with time, but it really stands head and shoulders above anyplace else i have seen here.
