I can say nothing bad about this resort!! I really loved every minute. We were staying in a beautiful wooden cottage, with a bath tub on the roof terrace. With a amazing view over the bay. The swimming pool is great, also try the Spa! Lovely, I really felt in paradise, drinking my cup of tea after a wonderful massage. I dont understand the moaners... Its paradise!

We stayed at the Panviman on Koh Pha Ngan for 3 nights in August. We really enjoyed ourselves. Our room was the least expensive, but still very nice (new bathroom, comfortable bed, great view!). The higher end rooms/cottages look amazing.

The resort seems to be going through a face-lift, with success. The restaurants are good. There are a couple restaurants on the beach that are fun places to go at night.

The good: unbelievable views, great beach, nice amenities, great pool, nice people, decent restaurants.

Potential downsides: some people complain about the hike to the beach - they must be lazy as it's not nearly as bad as people say on these boards; the spa is great, but you sometimes hear noisy boats during the relaxing massage, it's a trek over the mountain from the ferry.

Bottom line: we would go back in a heartbeat!!

We cancelled a recent stay at Panviman due to the weather, being unable to get to Phangan during storms they promised a full refund and agreed to waive the 1 night charge for late booking. They have kept all of my money! Be warned!

We took the option of the very expensive speedboat transfer from Samui. I think reading the other reviews about the overland trip it was worth it but for a family of four it would be prohibitive as the price is per head. When we arrived we were required to jump off the front of the boat which was fine for us but I wouldn't want my granny to have to do this!! Things went downhill quite quickly as it started to rain and we were more or less ignored and stood in the bar until our luggage was unloaded and everything else (foodstores etc) taken off the boat. It was then that we were noticed, umbrellas found and we embarked on the hike to reception. This walk is low steps so fine for most but we were definitely puffing by the top - and this is how you access the beach so make sure you don't forget anything.

All meals in the hotel were average - nothing to complain about but nothing to get excited about either. We felt all the common areas lacked atmosphere and that the staff were - while charming when attentive - quite commonly not on their toes. We had understood from the hotel's own website that there were two restaurants for evening meals but only one was operating during our stay - yup the one on the beach so that walk again !

Room (Deluxe Cottage) was fine but no inside seating area which given the size of the room seemed like an obvious omission.

Pool area is very attractive and if you don't fancy the walk to the beach a lifesaver.

Worse thing for us however was somewhere nearby somebody - a bar - was playing that horrid music where the base note travels and at night we just couldn't tune it out. It was not loud but the bay holds any noise and exacerbates it. Note that we are particularly sensitive to this noise pollution and most people would probably be able to ignore it.

The other restaurants on the beach were very standard Thai beach restaurants - not the place for a romantic dinner - so we tried the new hotel being built at the other end of the bay - the Santhiya for dinner. We asked to look at the rooms and they are stunning - particularly the pool villas but I don't think anybody would be disappointed with any room. As the Panviman it is on a hill but far steeper so you would need to get a buggy everywhere - particulary from the deluxe (basic) rooms in the main building. However that is the best bit. An alleged 5 star hotel where the only white wine choice was Chardonnay ........ and food was average and service similar to the Panviman. But if you are a week at the Panviman it makes a nice change and the views are lovely. Oh and if you are considering staying the private beach is not a patch on the main bay so you are in for a small walk over the rocks.

Can't see any reason for going to either the Panviman or the Santhiya with the wonderful choice of great hotels in Samui - particularly when you take into account the transfer and the lack of choice engendered by the location.

We stayed at the Panviman for 5 nights. Overall a lovely hotel which is still being developed. We had a deluxe cottage which was beautifully spacious rooms, lovely bath tub for two ;) and terrace. Lovely setting and infinity edge pool - You may find it difficult staying at this hotel if you have trouble walking long distances or up hills etc as it is situated in the hills. The only bad thing is, as everyone has mentioned, is that it is a 45 minute drive from the airport which is fine until you get to the dirt track roads that have huge holes in which makes it a very uncomfortable ride.
We didnt eat at this restaurant apart from breakfast which I must say was pretty basic. There are a few restaurants along the very pretty beach within walking distance which were very nice.
Staff very professional and helpful.

My Wife and I stayed for 14 nights at this hotel, and apart from our Honeymoon in Bora Bora, it was the most delicious slice of paradise we've ever experienced.

We had luxurious massages every day, which we either strolled to through the wonderful trees and plants, or were whizzed off to via the hotels converted golf buggies. (great fun in it's self)

The pool is wonderfully refreshing in the Thai heat, with a wonderful view and towels on tap.

The food is consistent and while better value is found on the beach, it's easy to order delicious salads and snacks by the pool.

Trasfer Tips: If you like the adventure, just get the ferry and hire a cab on arrival on Koh Pha Ngan. Its a hell of a trip. If you want a FAR easy trip from Samui, get the hotel to pick you up from the airport and arrange a private speedboat transfer. This DRAMATICALLY reduces the time and effort it takes to get there (and hour as opposed 4-5hours). While the ride from Airport to ferry pier takes all of 15 mins, the inevitable wait for the ferry (us 1.5hrs) the ferry (1hr) and then the thrilling, but long (2hrs) pick-up truck ride through barren and extremely bumpy dirt track roads can take it out of you after a long trip (we can directly from london - bangkok - bangkok - samui - samui - Ko Pha Ngan and we must have been up for 72hrs!

The Panviman now has 'hotel rooms' which is what we got as the cottages were all booked. The hotel rooms are brand new, and finished to high standard. Air-con is a life saver in the heat and the luxury touches of mini-bar and large baths made for a perfect stay. The cottages do look like the top option tho' and I'd go for one of these next time (We'll be back)

The beach, that is easily accessed via a few steps, is delicious. The bar at the far end is so relaxed you could stay there for the entire stay.

Eating dinner on the beach is wonderful and there's enough choice to keep you happy for quite a while.

There's a 'hidden' villiage on this beach too, with shops selling clothes and general supplies, plus a taxi service that will whizz you bumping and jumping off to the Full Moon or Half Moon parties... they were very reliable and even came to pick us up at the end!

We stayed in room 510. It had double aspect views accross the pool and the sea. It was lovely, with a large balcony.

Hotel staff were great and catered to every need.

Breakfast is the classic tropical buffet, and was a delicious. Gazing over tree tops at dancing dragonflies towards an endless glittering ocean, has got to be a lovely way to start the day.

My partner and I have just returned arrived back from a wonderful two weeks in Thailand, with 4 nights on Koh Samui and 10 nights at the Panviman on Koh Phanyan, we orginally only checked in for 3 nights and were planning to go back to Samui but we loved the place that much we extended our stay for the rest of our trip...
From the moment we were picked up at the Pier, everything just seemed like it should be (after 4 hectic days and nights on Samui), this is what we had been waiting for!
We knew from previous reviews we had read that we were in for a 45 minute drive through the jungle to the hotel, along a very rough road. This was all part of the experience for us, and we loved the thought of driving through the jungle which was very beautifully scenic and unspoilt. Upon approaching the hotel we didnt know what to expect, once we drove up the driveway to the reception area, and by time we we got out we were overwelmed we had found PARASISE and we hadnt even seen the room yet. The split level pool had an AMAZING view of Thong Nai Pan Yai (more a bay than a beach) and its gardens were immaculate. We were taken to our room (which we chose a Superior Hotel Room as we didnt plan to spend much time in the room but to sleep) by buggy, we had a lovely verandah overlooking the pool and ocean, we were satisfied. Once we dumped the bags we headed to the beach, I was blown away, I was in heaven, Thong Nai Pai Noi was perfect, the beach was unspoilt and private. Its a bit of a walk down to the beach from the hotel. We walked along the beach (its about a 20 minute walk) checking out the beachsite restaurants and the small village behind the beach. We were amazed to discover a couple of small supermarkets which stocked everything you could need (cold beer, wine, snacks, gifts etc) and several ATM machines if you needed cash for your stay.(Note its a small village so if your looking for shopping go to Thong Sala) There are several restaurants and bars beachfront or in the village, our favourites being Panburi, Star Hut and Bamboo. If your looking for diving go and see Lee and the guys at H2o, they are really cool and are very experienced. If you are looking at trying a Thai cooking class go and see Gan at Bamboo Restaurant, she is really sweet and will teach you whatever you want to learn and once you cook it you get to enjoy it. I loved it that much I did it 3 nights in a row.
Back to the Panviman, the Breakfast was wonderful everything on offer, but be warned go slow, its all all too tempting. We had dinner at Stonehouse a few times, it was devine. Make sure you take a visit the massage centre, where you will be made feel like a Queen or King, try a Herbal Sauna and a Thai Massage, I highly recommend.
In addition, I suggest you contact the hotel directly if you want to stay here as the sometimes have better rates or special deals.
Just one word of advice make sure that you confirm the cost of the rooms upon checkin or if you plan to extend your stay as we had a couple of issues in relation to the rates, these varied to what we were told intially and were only discovered upon checkout, it was a bit of a sad ending to a happy stay when I had to speak to 3 seperate staff to try to have this rectified.
All in all Panviman was a really lovely hotel, which I recommend for couples or families with children.
We would stay again or recommend to friends and family..
