We stayed in the cheapest room type. The reception messed up our reservation but finally figured it out. The hotel is in a very nice location but the restaurant staff weren't the most polite. Good Thai food though and good prices. Breakfast buffet was also good. The hot water in the room was not constant. The beach was very nice.

This was my home away from home for the best part of October2013. So please keep in mind that these comments are based on a longer than average stay, I was not here for a quick couple of days and then leaving; I was there to stay for almost a month! Had Salad is wonderful beach that has only one problem: dogs. Too many stray dogs. Luckily I'm a very big guy and not afraid of them, but it kind bothers me to have to kick a dog in the face for it to leave me alone. Even then they are afraid of me but keep on barking and running away. Very annoying and disturbing dogs if you are looking for peace, quiet, and tranquility. The serenity that I felt was often broken with the barking of one or more of these dogs. I try to ignore but once the dogs start following you and think that you are trying to escape they attempt to run you down (into the water or corner you somewhere). Usually a kick to the dog's nose does the trick. But I really wish they would do something about that there. Take the dogs to shelters or tie them up with a leash, just keep them away from the tourists on the beaches. Very annoying at night when you are listening to a beautiful guitar and having an intimate conversation only to hear dogs suddenly barking.

Enough about the dogs, the resort was amazing! Had Salad Beah Resort had one of the cleanest swiming pools that I have seen on the island. Fantastic restaurant right on the beach that servse decent food, nothing spectacular, but I really enjoyed it! Especially for sunset. The massage is not out on the beach but it is very nice and relaxing. The ladies would do better if they smiled more, but they were friendly enough.

Free wifi, which was not bad at all, I enjoyed very good speeds for most of my stay. On the nights around the full moon party the speed understandably slowed down, but it was still reasonable. They clean the room's floor everyday with a very sweet smelling substance, I don't know what it is, but it feels very fresh and drives the smell of the cigarettes straight out! Not that I smoke that much anyway. The standard free 2 bottles of water daily kept me well hydrated, but on those extra sweaty days i had to buy additional liquid from the store opposite the reception. I actually became very friendly with the lady and she started to give me discountd prices for my loyalty! Very sweet lady, respect to her.

It was very quiet but I met two nice groups of travelers during my stay. To make things exciting, for the nightlife I would go to Thong Sala, a 45 minute drive by motorbike. For the spiritual side, I would do the Muslim Friday prayers at Ban Tai mosque (Mulla Fullaw); on the way to Thong Sala.

Visit Double Duke nearby for a decent meal and drink if you get the chance towards the end of the left side of the beach as you head out of Had Salad Beach Resort towards the beach. Jay Jay's Restaurant on the path up the hill out of Had Salad had a very good chef, big pizza, and good juices.

Only the reception staff spoke excellent English, the rest could do with more training, but then again, this Koh Phangan, if they had better English they would most likely travel to the mainland.

Positives
1. The room is cleaned daily with new towels daily.
2. Cool AC + Fan + Patio/balcony + International tv channels + huge bathroom.
3. Great view of the sunset. Grabbed a couple of rainbows too!
4. The breakfast was adequate. Loved my omlette, slice of bread, and coffee (that's all I want really).
5. Room service is reasonably priced and quite good. Regularly ordered the pizza, fettuccini alfredo, tuna sandwich, and tom yum.
6. It rains a lot so you have an umbrella in the room.
7. Hourly taxis (pick-up truck) into town.
8. A couple of motorbike rental shops near by.
9. Mae Had beach just down the road after a 1km climb out of Had Salad.
10. Reasonably priced laundry.
11. Staff are sweet and very hospitable. Mostly Burmese.

Negatives
0. No doorbell.. Not that it is important! :P
1. The water is heated centrally, so you don't get the hot water straight away.
2. If you buy a lot of your own supplies like me, then the fridge is just too small.
3. Huge massive shower area but no bathtub.
4. Balcony chairs were plastic with risk of breaking under big people (being a big guy of 6'2" and around 300pounds).
5. Stayed 3 stories up which was tiring at first but loved the workout after that.
6. Laundry did not use softner/scent, being a little snobish perhaps but it's really nice to have that.
7. Cleaning hours are not punctual, there's no strict schedule, they could be early or late. Makes it hard to plan to leave while they clean and come back when they are done. Several times I left and came back and they hadn't gotten to my room yet. On the flip side I was awakened on several occasions to the sound of staff asking to clean the room.
8. Room service closes at 11pm. As is the case with island life, no food if you get hungry after that time. If you get the munchies and you missed the room service and the shop, you can only go pick up a couple of coconuts :P

Room Tip: The more you pay, the better the room you get. Simple!

Unfortunately in Thailand it has become quite common to receive terrible service and a total lack of the buisness principles. This said, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The staff bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable, they were very helpful with organising onward travel and scooter hire, and the restaurant served amazing seafood. Definitely would recommend this place to all our friends, far better than the neighbouring resorts, and also much cheaper too.

Stayed in the garden bungalow for 3 nights. Very clean, lovely patio for early evening sundowner, shame there was no tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The pool area was great plenty of sunbeds. The staff in the dining room at breakfast should have there mobile phones taken off them it was more important for them to text than take care of there customers. The beach is lovely with a few restaurants to choose from. Lovely place to stay for a quiet few days, if looking for nightlife this area is not for you as most places close about 10.00-10.30 pm. We loved our stay and will be returning in the near future, hopefully by then the phones will be locked away during working hours. Thanks to the girls for the flower decoration on the bed nice little touch.

Room Tip: Garden bungalows were very nice and not far from the pool.

As soon as we set foot on the Island we new we waisted our time at Koh Samui, Ko Phangan is the Jeul in the crowne. The Salad Bech resort is located on the north west side, away from the hustle & bustle of Haad Rin where one usually docks.
Their are beach view bungalow or pool view bungalow.
If you are lucky you can see the sun set from your porch or just walk few meters. Breakfast is good and rich.
We loved it and did not want to leave.
However if you want to have other activities there are plenty.

when we arrived they have given away our room even though it was paid for - they said they could not contact us to confirm the room - 5 adults put into 1 room eventually

pool was great and food was nice and delicious - they had a bbq buffet. Only stayed for 2 nights and we were transferred to salad buri resort after the full moon party.

Stayed here with my wife and son. Our first time in Thailand and boy, what a paradise, the beach was beautiful, shallow enough for small children families, great for the amature snorkaler. We had a garden bungalow, the last one before the pool area, it was perfect, quite, no problems with the noise from the pool area. A little small but clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were great, a special thank you to Zlatan and JoJo.

We will be back :)
