“The Salad Beach Resort is a small resort l...”
Reviewed 22 February 2010

The Salad Beach Resort is a small resort located at Haad Salad, which is the more quiet north-west corner of Koh Phangan. Depending on how much you pay for your stay you could get some value for your money. The rooms and bungalows are fairly basic, have a weak noise isolation
and the overall resort itself has lost some of its charme since it was built. This is mainly due to using all open areas between the bungalows and part of the beach for laying out wooden planks for the restaurant and beach chairs.

Location:
Had Salad still is one of the more relaxed beaches of Koh Phangan, even though almost every inch of the beach front has been used for building resorts, bungalows and restaurants. The sunset is one of the greatest you can enjoy on Koh Phangan and you get some good drink &
food value for your money. The Salad Beach Resort is located almost at the north end of Haad Salad with only a few meters of beach in front of the resort.

Rooms:
We've had a garden bungalow (paid 62 € per night during mid-Feb) that we found quite basic. You have AC, fridge, safe and TV but the whole interior is quite old and on the walls you could count the already dead mosquitos. Since our bungalow was located next to the car and motorbike parking we could hear all the engine noise from people coming and leaving. Also the bed sheets have been dirty and not replaced after a few days. Compared to other resorts on Koh Phangan we felt the place was more worth 40-45 € per night during high season.

Food & Drinks:
The drink prices have been ok and the food also seems to be ok. Good is that you have some alternatives on the beach as "My Way" or "Cookies" where you also get good food for little money.

A super location, lovely beach with just enough to do and just enough to keep it chilled out, a few beach bars and restaurants etc but all chilled out, great food, super views - no sunsets this side of this island though be warned although it doesn't make much difference.
The hotel is great, super clean, simple, modern, everythin you need. It's not pretending to be some sort of boutique hotel it is what it is, reasonably priced, clean, the service is fine and it's on a lovely beach - you won't be dissapointed.
The beach has a low tide so is very shallow which I love as love to paddle about in the crystal clear shallow water, if you're a bit swimmer you'll have to wade out for a bit earlier in the day.
The hotel has little mini bus taxis always available to take you elsewhere on th eisland - 30 mins to Had Rhin or 20 mins to the port -easy. We loved it here, over and out.

Wow, I don't even know where to start! We loved this resort and visiting Ko Phangan, it was amazing. We considered staying at the Prestige and the Green Dolphin which were next door, but I really have no idea what you got for the extra 60$ a night. After exploring the other resorts on the same beach we definitely felt we made the right choice in picking Salad Beach Resort.

This resort hit all the basics so I'll go over those first. The staff was SO friendly and very helpful, the grounds were beautiful and lush, and the room was a good size and very clean. Definitely a great value for the money.

I'll start off with the one con which is really a pro if you like exploring - there isn't much of a beach. At high tide it's pretty much lost and then at low tide it's just a sliver. There is a large deck that overlooks the cove though, and the waves crash right below you. Making up for the beach, the cove is fantastic for floating and relaxing. The water is refreshing and clear, and there was snorkeling as well.

We spent a lot of time exploring other beaches along the coast and I would definitely recommend this - a scooter sets you back only 5$ a day! There is a nice beach about 5 minutes away called Mae Hat where you'll find lots of sand, restaurants, massage huts, and the tiny island of Koh Mae which you can walk to across a sand bar.

Our bungalow was perfect - just like the pics on the site and was the best one on the property. It had a wrap around porch with chairs and a lounger, and then sliding doors and windows on 2 sides that made it just like being outside when they were open, so relaxing. You should ask for the corner ocean view bungalow if they have it available, though the pool view was almost as nice. The pool is beautiful and in the middle of a lush garden.

The grounds were amazing, so green and lush and peaceful. There were winding paths and tons of vegetation, a mini oasis. You know how some resorts can be too resorty? Not this one, it was the perfect reflection of the island and Thai culture.

The restaurant was great - yummy (and Free!) breakfast buffet with made to order pancakes and omelets, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc. Dinner was also wonderful - FRESH fish and authentic Thai, couldn't beat it. If you decide to try the western cuisine (and this goes for any restaurant), do know that it's more or an interpretation than "like home".

The resort is right next to an area with convenience stores, restaurants, massage huts, tours, etc. Its def worth your while to stock up on beer and wine from here b/c ordering from the restaurant is a lot pricier for the same stuff (there is a fridge in your room). Though we didn't go to the Full Moon Party in Hat Rin you can easily catch a taxi from this area as well.

For those worried about the water, they keep you FULLY stocked while you are there with bottled water and the restaurant (all of them, for that matter) always serve you this whether you remember to ask for it or not.

I would go back to the island and stay at this resort without a doubt! Though it was in the northwest corner, because the island isn't very large you can get anywhere you want via scooter with ease. The views of the coastline and the beauty of the interior of the island make this something you shouldn't miss!

At first we doubted if this was a good place. Mainly because the staff at the receiption was a bit weird, but deceided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The rooms were fine, but a little bit dated. Large bathroom.

The staff at the restarant was great. They played with our son, made him elephant shaped pancakes en were always correct an helpfull.

Snorkeling is nice if you swim for about 500 meters into the ocean!

We came here for our honeymoon and ended up staying 7 nights, more than we had planned. It was great - beautiful location, very nice room and we found the staff were really helpful and friendly. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but the staff were really great.

Highly recommended for people looking to have a relaxing vacation. There's lots to do but you can also really chill out. It's a beautiful spot, and definitely from what we could tell, the nicest resort on the beach, especially for the price.

We will definitely come back!

Nice beach. Great sunsets. Quiet after 10PM.

The hotel was great. Nice rooms, great food.

The staff made me uncomfortable. On many occasions they got confused as to whether or not a bill was paid at the restaurant and had to chase each other around pointing at me and asking who had the bill and if it were paid. This seems to be an endemic problem there because a few other guests mentioned similar instances.

They charge for petty things and ask for deposits on borrowed snorkeling gear etc even though they require a credit card for the room deposit.

The pool and beach were great. The water is VERY shallow maybe .5 meter for 150 meters. Not great for swimming until you get past the reef.

Worth staying here for the sunsets alone. Just fantastic.

The room was fine. They had a safe, Mini bar, hot water good AirCon.

Would recommend.
