“Nourishing on every level”

Stayed here for a week with my boyfriend and some friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. We got right into the vibe at the Sanctuary and made the most of what was on offer such as yoga classes, the steam room, the fasting program, the beach, and just hanging about in the restaurant.
All the meals in the restaurant were amazing - healthy, clean, tasty and nourishing. The restaurant staff were very friendly and genuine. Praise must also go to the people in the kitchen who whip up so many healthy meals each day. I'm not sure whether it would be the same level of service if the resort was fully booked out. My only gripe is that smoking is not restricted in uncovered areas of the restaurant.

Hi Yolande Thank you for taking a moment to write a few words!, How wonderful, you felt the vibe here and enjoyed all the wonderful services we have to offer. Yes I agree our kitchen crew are indeed a bunch of angels and they do work hard every day coming up with new ideas and dishes. Smoking cigarettes, ah, naturally we do not allow smoking in the covered part of the restaurant, our outside areas are many and we are working now and creating a non smoking outside area on the beach….the joy of implementing new rules!!!! ...regards...Nolan

I went for a month to do my yoga training with 'jungle yoga' and stayed 3 months! I had the time of my life! This place is a life changer, a travellers home, where you can meet the most extraordinary people and there's enough going on that you can find whatever you need here, be it yoga, detox, healing, beach holiday or a retreat. They run great courses and workshops you can dip in and out of and the 'tea temple' and free meditations in the evening are so beautiful and are a great way to connect with what's going on in the bay if that's your scene! If not there's a quiet party scene near by, but if you don't want to be involved with that you don't even really know it's going on! And I wasn't a party girl when I arrived but these are some special gatherings, a world away from the full moon parties of haad rin! It's perfect, whatever you want it to be! It is luxury accommodation in the jungle and I stayed in the very affordable dormitory, by far the nicest dormitory you could imagine and I had a luxury treehouse for a short while too, a house of peaceful tree top dreams! Really good wifi, as mentioned below there are a couple of jungle friends around but it's spotlessly clean and built within nature so they can't keep everything out, and it wouldn't be Thailand without the geckos! Accommodation is stunning and ranges from fancy treetop bungalows to basic dorms, so anyone can stay! The food and cakes are incredible! The staff and long termers are some of the most wonderful people you'll ever meet, they make you feel so welcome and rescued me several times, including when I lost my passport and cash, they go above and beyond to make your stay relaxing and include you in everything that's going on if you're interested, movie nights, the fabulous open mic nights etc, many solo travellers return time after time as it's so easy to make friends here, it's just real hard to leave! The beach is fabulous and quite private, there's two bays either side, if you want to explore and lots of places to eat, bring cash as you have to get a water taxi to ATM and you won't wanna leave! Thank you sanctuary I now feel I have a home on the bay anytime I need it, I'll be back to top up on loveliness soon! And anyone interested in yoga training I cannot recommend jungle yoga highly enough, I had the time of my life and what a place to do it, I would go back in heart beat! Xxx

We heard about The Sanctuary through family and friends. We had an epic holiday!
We had seen photographs first, but nothing had prepared us for this magical experience.
The Sanctuary ticks just about every box, from the exciting arrival by long tail boat and walking up the beach, to the delicious, well prepared food, very good and characterful accommodation to the thought provoking classes in the Tea Temple and the Yoga or Meditation in the Buddha Hall.
It was all kept scrupulously clean every day by Thai families.

We didn't take part in the detox programme but noticed that those who did definitely seemed to find the programmes very beneficial and said they felt healthier, cleaner and leaner after their experience. When we return will certainly consider participating.

We enjoyed the 'open mic' on Thursdays (there was a great French musician and also a Dutch one when we were visiting - fantastic music) what a treat! We also enjoyed dancing at Guy's Bar which is a weekend event and at Eden too which is just up and over the hill in the next bay.

Very much 'de-tox' during the week and 're-tox' at the weekend - a happy balance!

We made some great friends while we were there - it is that kind of sociable place.

Finally - thank you to all the staff who made our stay so special and unforgettable - Mike, Natasha, Nolan, Chard, Sam, Jonny, Rashmi - to name just a few.

This experience will always stay with me from the wonderful sounds of the jungle to the stunning beach The Sanctuary is situated by. Well done guys for creating this piece of paradise!

The island itself is beautiful and the spa and detox centers are great but the accommodation is very basic. I had two rats run across the ceiling beams in my room. Scared the life out of me. And it was night time and reception was closed so there was absolutely no one I could talk to about changing rooms. Safe to say I didn't get a wink of sleep. Also, there are bats flying around the restaurant/kitchen area. The restaurant itself serves delicious food and the people who come here are pretty extraordinary. But it's just not the average critter that you have to be comfortable with. I'm ok with geckos and bugs and frogs but I draw the line at rats.

Hi Elaine ..thanks for your review and ...well ....sorry about the nature ...we do try to keep it under control - however , unlike the city variety though these ones are jungle dwellers and we have a 'catcher' who will return some of the unwanted critters to the jungle . As to the bats- we have an open plan restaurant - no walls ; only views and the quick eye can see the occasional bat flitting through . For many its WOW - look at that - cool . I am glad that you enjoyed the rest of your experience. -Mike and the Crew

This year was my first time in Thailand and i couldn't ask for a better place to stay and experience this new dimension.
This place completely blew my mind!! you become part of a community and you feel definely at home. The Staff is the best i've ever experienced in my life ,thel all know how to make your stay special!!
For all those who complain about the dirt , remeber people you are in the jungle so please expect what the nature is.
I'm definitely missing my days over there but i'm so happy because now i know this place exists.
See you next year Mike and the Crew !!!

We booked two weeks at the sanctuary. We expected to have a healthy and wholesome stay - the website and the pictures advertise a relaxed atmosphere, good food, excellent programs for detox and yoga. Huts for rent: basic but comfortable. We ended up quite disappointed. The hut we had was within ear distance of the main restaurant and bar. Music - of the type boom boom boom - is played all day long, even far beyond closing time, when (non thai) personnel members take over, continue drinking and smoke pot. The yoga was not up to standard, the afternoon lesson was not there and a scheduled meditation session had no teacher at all. The place is a home for all other folks from around the sanctuary, who stay there all season, rent cheap huts around of on other beaches and come and hang out together at the place. This is not our crowd. We spoke about this to management and they actually were quite apologetic, which made up for some disappointment. We got a good discount for the room. We moved after four days and left the island shortly after that. The quality of the room was actually good, apart from the music. If you are looking for a mindful place, to relax, do yoga, detox of otherwise, this might be too much for you. This is a good place for people who want to do both: the moon parties and the other stuff.

Room Tip: Stay well away from the bar area.

Hi Brian and thanks for you review. Sorry to hear you ended up disappointed with your stay. Our bungalows are very beautiful and of course being in a jungle setting we designed them to be open so people can feel all of the beautiful elements of nature that surround us here.
We take great care with our music selection, we try not to play ‘boom boom’ music at all as of course there many parties on different parts of the island where people can go and experience that vibe. Our vibe is more chilled usually so sorry if the tempo was too much too late - as I type this response to you my foot is tapping away to some beautiful sixties soul.
There is indeed a community of free spirited people on these 3 bays who come for extended periods and enjoy some of the facilities we offer. Together with the rich diversity of our new and returning guests - this is one of the attractions for many , The atmosphere that all these different folks bring is a smashing, fun and vibrant one!
Over the years as the Sanctuary has developed into an international holiday destination and with our new and returning guests, friends, healers and teachers we were able to create this feeling of well being and balance
We have worked hard to strike that balance between the life choices. Sometimes that line does blur, but for the most part we’re delighted with the results.
Regards, Nolan
