“Amazing and relaxing luxurious hotel, making you feel in paradise from the first minute!”
Reviewed 20 June 2009

Amazing and relaxing luxurious hotel, making you feel as being in paradise from the first minute you arrive there.

Stayed in Santhiya Garden Villa Suite for 4 nights in April, 2009.

There is nothing negative we could find about this hotel.

Villas look gorgeous, all of them new, spacious, made of carved teak wood, with really LARGE verandas (there were 2 sun beds with a small table, normal dining table with 2 chairs and a large bathroom on ours). Almost all walls of the villa feature large windows from the floor to the ceiling, which can be easily closed by the curtains if you look for 100% privacy (though rich rain forest trees and flowers around your villa will provide enough privacy to keep the windows open). The wooden roof of the villa covers only the part of the veranda so if you are afraid of getting burned with sun ask for a large beach umbrella and hotel staff will easily provide it in shortest time). All in-room facilities were excellent: starting from cosy cambric bathrobes and slippers embroiden with golden elephants an ending with a variety of elegant glasses in the bar.

Service was very nice, all staff friendly and trying to be as helpful as possible. We were impressed with the welcome and check-in procedure.

The hotel is large, its villas are situated on different heights of mountain hill but don’t be afraid of exhausting climbing up/down as there are many wooden-decorated hotel cars available upon call from your room or near the reception which will give you a drive as many times per day as you may need (free of charge).

The private beach of Santhiya is very good though if you look for a really airy sand – walk through the rocks (1 minute) to the nearby beach. If you want to swim in the deep water – do it on the hotel beach, if you prefer walking for 20-30 meters in shallow water – the neighbor beach would be your choice.

Closer to the left side of the private beach of the hotel (side of the speedboat pier) there is a nice coral reef with different fish and underwater habitants so do not miss the opportunity to snorkel there.

We are not the swimming pool fans but swimming pool in Santhiya is the most excited infiniti pool I’ve ever seen in reality or on the pictures. It’s a great pleasure either to relax in jacuzzi section or massage your back and shoulders under the streams of the waterfall. What is very important – they use high quality cleaning system so no clorine can be felt in the smell of your skin or swimming suit.

We didn’t try Santhiya’s restaurants because of their high prices and were very happy about many dining faclities on the nearby beach (you can eat in any of them and won’t be disappointed). Still, the breakfast at Santhiya was very good, serving not only European but also Thai food.

In general, we very more than satisfied with the hotel which even exceeded our expectations. We took the special room rate at Sawadee.com (our room cost us around 172 USD/night with breakfast and all taxes) and consider that there hardly could be possible to find better alternative on all Samui group islands for the period of our stay.

spent 4 nights here, got a great deal via expedia paid for 4 nights less than the hotels charges for 1. Stayed in a villa with outdoor bath tub on deck. Lovely inside with 4 poster bed and very large outdoor bathroom. Great breakfast with large variety of food. had 1 evening meal there that was ok but nothing special and expensive. Large pool area with plenty of beds. Easy to get to other beach with plenty of beach restaurants to chose from and alot cheaper to eat and drink. Did the boat transfer back to samui via hotel and was good fun suggest sit inside so you dont get wet!

Santhiya really is the pinnacle of luxury. My partner and I have stayed at many great hotels and resorts in the region but this really is something else. From the moment we arrived, having been picked up by Santhiya staff in Samui, we were completely bowled over by the elegance and luxury that this resort has to offer.

We stayed in a Royal Pool Villa with its own private infinity pool right outside the front door. Falling out of bed straight into the pool was a novelty that we never got tired of! And the villa had amazing unobstructed views right across the bay. In the two weeks that we stayed at Santhiya we never really had any inclination to leave the resort!

The setting for the resort is stunning. All the villas are hidden away amongst the lush greenery and waterfalls on the hillside on which the resort has been built. It's the perfect romantic getaway, a real gem of a find. And the large pool next to beach is truly breathtaking with a large waterfall cascading directly into it.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful as you'd expect and the food and dining facilities were excellent. Although we expected some rainfall in June, the weather in fact was great throughout.

Needless to say, we highly recommend the resort and we'll be back very soon.

Staff are wonderful. Willing to assist with any query and always there to help. Very proactive and often help before you ask. The english speaking UK resort ambassador was very helpful and a nice touch to allow residents to converse with ease.

Rooms are sheer luxury. Great outdoor showers. Great views overlooking the beach. 5* cleanliness. No faults at all.

The local thai people are very friendly and the surroiunding restaurants are great value and very traditional food.

Also took part in wakeboarding through the hotel which was a great experience. The guy who did this was very good and knew what he was on about.

Had a wonderful 4 day stay in a seaview pool villa (Room 505). Well equipped and lots of teak carvings, lovely pool with views over the rooftops and trees to the sea, equipped with a separate AC sunroom, waterfall and its own cave! Attached outside bathroom had a wonderful shower and was very spacious but mosquios could be a problem on some nights - the hotel fog the site with lemongrass once a week to control. The hotel pool is gorgeous and located right next to a semi-private beach- slightly gritty but beautiful to look at and providing access to kayaking, sea swimming etc. We also arranged a couple of Wake Board sessions through the hotel.

Staff were all extremely attentive and helpful and treated us like VIP's. Particular thanks the Jenny, Jane and Chuk for making our stay so special.

Thong Nai Pan Noi is a lovely quiet village with a fantastic beach and a few bars serving food with a view. Everwhere you go you take your shoes off to enter (restaurants, shops etc.. so still retaining the traditional thai culture). The BBQ at the bar just over the rocks from the hotel is recommended. Tanaporn Massage in the village was also very clean and good for traditional Thai Massages for about £6 per hour (if you can cope with a 15 minute walk along one of the best beaches in the island!).

The hotel pickup and transfer were efficient and seamless both ways... the crossing is a fantastic experience but can be bumpy and wet so use the towels provided or change into your best after the crossing.

My partner and I had 3 days in Ko Pha Ngan for the Full Moon Party, and while we like a good time/party, we are not interested in staying in cheaper, more run down places that are supposedly "filled with character". I want to be assured I am staying somewhere lovely when I'm on vacation, and Santhiya in many ways lived up to that. It's also nowhere near Haad Rin beach, where the party is held, so you can be guaranteed of a secluded break away from all the crowds.

It was unfortunate that the rain was torrential half the time we were there, especially considering it was not the rainy season.

On arrival on the island (we had taken a speed boat from Koh Samui near the Big Buddha Pier to Haad Rin Pier which took approx 30 mins at a cost of THB600 each) the hotel kindly picked us up and took us on the 45 minute drive back to the resort (a cost of THB2000). Considering it was 8pm at night and pouring with rain, I didn't care about the cost. The drive was interesting in that you have to go over winding, unsealed roads through the forest, which is actually quite amazing.

The resort is made up of individual huts, which are spread over the hillside, and you are generally transported around in one of the hotels golf buggies. The night we arrived, the rain was unlike any I have seen before and we couldn't be shown to our room for over an hour.

The room itself was lovely, although no view of the ocean which we were expecting. We hadn't booked the lead in room type, we had paid for a higher room category. The layout of the huts takes a little getting used to, but the outdoor shower is certainly different - but in a good way. The only drawback is when it rains and you're taking a shower, the sensation of hot water from the shower mixing with cold rain water doesn't make for the most enjoyable experience. The same applies with the outdoor bath - water was running off the roof into our bath. The bed was very comfortable, and all the amenities, etc. were all lovely.

The food and drinks were always delicious, although I have to say one thing I noticed was the service was always very slow which is unusual and very different to the standard offered by other 5 star hotels in Asia.

We spent our few days just lazing by the pool, with it's cascading waterfalls and view over the sea, while we recovered from our full moon party experience. There isn't a great deal to do, but then I wouldn't suggest going to Santhiya if you are looking for things to do. You go to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a few days.

Our return to Koh Samui was much more seamless and easier with the hotels own speedboat transfer direct from their pier to Koh Samui, and then the short 7-8 minute drive to the airport in the hotels air-conditioned van.

NB: If you do want to go to the full moon party, the hotel offers a shuttle service at 9pm on the night of the party, returning to the hotel at 3am. We unfortunately missed this because of our late arrival, but the hotel was most helpful in finding us a taxi that took us on the "harrowing" 45 minute drive back to Haad Rin (cost was THB1200 for the two of us). I say harrowing because we were in the back of a ute with a tarpolin/cover over the top, and the lady was driving easily 100 km/h through the narrow jungle road and around the tighest of bends - my partner loved it though. All part of the adventure. The same lady also happened to take us and a group of others back to the hotel at 5.30am the next morning for the much cheaper price of THB500 for the two of us.
