This destination is in a wonderfully stunning location. Each sunset is a delight. The pool is great, the beach small but adequate. The rooms are cleaned every 3 days unless you request it more frequently. The staff are the heart and soul of the place. All staff are truely happy to serve and help in any way they can. Lots of nodding and smiling - thai style. However, "BOUTIQUE RESORT" as the sign at the front says.?? this place is not. There are dogs all around the reception and dinning areas. The staff that wait on the tables and serve the food, play and handle the dogs all day and night. The menu's are filthy, rusty and falling apart. There are no cocktails, only beers, soft drinks and water.
The bin outside our room (right next to the pool) was not emptied for 5 days and overflowing. It was emptied and replaced with a bin with a lid, when i asked if it could be emptied, and made the "manager" aware. There is no "receipt & signature" when you charge items to your room. There is no information folder in your room, so i was surprised to discover a hairdryer was available at reception, after having wet hair for 3 days solid. It was very humid and rainny, for 6 days and i have very long hair. We stayed in the rooms facing the pool, and there are no curtains in the sitting room of any bungalow, so when relaxing watching the many videos available (it was raining) you are on public display. Also many videos don't actually play or have bad sound quality (pirated copies??) that they can not be heard above the rain. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in your room, however, the staff will arrange a cuppa very quickly for you between the hours of 7.30am and 10pm, when the kitchen is open. The bungalows are close to each other and the place is quite small, so if there "relaxed parents" and normal to loud children, avoiding them would be impossible. Something you do not know when you book in. Being without children this is a big issue when on holidays, so i try and book children free resorts.
One other small item is that the bathroom towels and beach towels are the same and interchangeable. This means scratchy tuff bath towels and small inadequate beach towels.

This might seam negative, well it is not very, however, it is realistic. We choose to eat at Big Mountain which is just up the road and the food and many cocktails FABULOUS. Open 8am until 11pm each day. The menu went for 8 pages and the food so delicious, with a great mix of thai and western foods. We were happy the walk back to the room was downhill, average cost for 2 with 2 cocktails was 600baht in total. - without cocktails only 200 to 300baht.
Massages, just 5 minutes away were so so good. Thai style dry massage was 2 hours/400baht - just perfect. (Paragon Massage). Lots of small shops in walking distance, so everything is at hand.

Would we stay there again?- YES. This is a quiet charming sea side location, where the staff and the sunsets the greatest assets.

We have just returned from our 3-week trip through Thailand (Bangkok, north-Chiang mai, Samui and Phangan) and we passed 3 wonderful days in Ko Phangan and this lovely small hotel. We really feel sorry not having had more time to spent there-this because we lost a lot of days in Ko Samui, which is nice but too touristic.
Ben, the manager of the hotel and her team gave us a very warm welcome, we just loved one of the beach front bungalows and decided immediately to stay.
The breakfast was okay, not buffet, but to fill out a form what you like, so everything is warm and fresh.
The best is the huge endless pool with amazing view on the sea. We found having discovered paradise, the ideal place for relaxing, reading, silence, just enyoing the moment, perfect place to forget everything from work, stress and the sometimes hard daily life.
We definitely will come back soon.
When we left, they organized transfer, boat and taxi to Samui airport, even they waited for us at 6 a.m. morning with a lunch packet to say goodbye to us-everything went smoothly.
Only things that maybe are missing: some massage possibilities and a hammock on the terrace, and at the beach some fruit vendors.
We just loved the place, spent unforgettable days, and will return back as soon as possible.

Four of us (47, 47, 24, 22) stayed for ten days, two in room A1, two in B8. Having read all the reviews on Sunset Cove before booking, we knew exactly what to expect, fantastic rooms, excellent service, beautiful beach, peace and quiet, and best of all, you are made to feel so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Most people that came for a few days extended their stay.

The staff really cannot do enough for you, from collecting you from the port, to booking trips, providing a taxi service anywhere, same day laundry service, waiter service anywhere, from room to sun bed to in pool and the restaurant.

The food is a good balance of Thai and European, so even the fussiest of eaters (our daughter) can be kept happy. The rooms are spacious and cleaned when ever you want, clean towels are plentiful, there are lots of sun beds surrounding the large clean pool.

Things that stick in you head, the staff remember what room you are in from the instant you book in. The large magic self-service drinks fridge that never seem to empty. The fresh fruit smoothies and shakes. The final bill which was accurate to the last can of coke, the fact that guests from all along the beach came to Sunset to relax and eat, there is nothing that was ever too much trouble for the staff. The number of restaurants and little shops within 5 minutes walk. Car hire man just down the road. Scuba Diving with a whale shark.

If you want to watch TV in your room, have loud thumping music, all night discos and drinking, restaurants with people trying to force you in to eat, loads of lights, noise and people, book elsewhere, this really isn’t the place for you.

Sunset cove is all about unwinding, relaxing and not having to care about anything more than whether you should have red or green curry for lunch.

Already booking for next year!

We originally booked for 3 nights for the full moon party and stayed for 10 as we loved it so much here. Cant recommend it enough, the location is lovely with the beach; the pool and the amazing sunsets; the staff couldnt do enough to help us enjoy our holiday and were so friendly; the food was lovely and so cheap and the rooms were lovely also.
It really made our holiday, came from a 5 star resort in Phi Phi and Sunset Cove was just as good if not better. All in all, we will definitely be back there again as it was the most relaxing holiday ever; apart from our motorbike experience!!!!!!!!!!

While this resort is definitely value for money, in a pretty location and average on accounts, I really can't understand how it gets the number 1 rating in Koh Phangan unless all other hotels there are just terrible.

We just found the location to be terrible. Miles and miles from anything by jeep which we hired, no other good restaurants or buzz closeby unless we went to other resorts. Even though the full moon party was about to be on, I think if you are in your 20's or 30's and want some restaurants and other establishments wihtin walking distance then it is a much better idea to stay in Haad Rin. We wished we had stayed there as Sunset Cove was windy beyond imagination, making it impossible to swim in the sea or the pool. The sea is so shallow that it is not worth even trying to swim in, whereas the Haad Rin beach was stunning and sheltered.

Lovely people, OK, very average food in the restaurant. Everything is nice and new and it represents great value for money and a nice isolated, (but not really idyllic) location.

TV which only played DVDs in room with hard uncomfortable couch which forced us to lie on the floor while the wind howled and storm ensued. Just not a great place if you have to spend time in the room.

We were family of 3 adult couples, looking for a week of serenity and peace on the thai islands. After searching and researching the web (including here ofcourse), we found the SUNSET COVE and booked directly by emails. the responses were quick, super-friendly, and reliable. They picked us from the pier with 1 of their vans and went directly to the resort. we stayed exectly on the rooms we booked. they were beautifully lightly decorated, super convinient and with a perfect touch. the pool was amazing - coming very handy on the low tides. the beach around is quiet and beautifull with only 1 bar on the beach. around the aftrenoon its even possible to swim, during the day just deeping in and strolling around. the SUNSET COVE were amazingly efficient with all our requests, fast and mostly accurate. the breakfast is nice and big, food in the restoraunt is nice and decently priced, though too familiar with western tounge - we prefer it local and spicy. they were happy to drive us around to neighbouring beaches, or invited a taxi for more distant locations. After 2 couples left, we decided to stay just the 2 of us 3 more days at the cove. since it was fully booked, we were offered a perfect room that actually intented to serve the owner when travelling to the island. is was above the restraunt with great views of the sea.

overall a perfect stay for all 6 of us, with all variety of expections we had. thanx to BEN the manager, Ee, To, Kai and Tong for serving us with a huge caring smile !!! very very very recomended.
