Arriving at the reception of the Milky Bay Resort, we were presented with a refreshing drink and cool towels, a lovely touch. The service was immediately warm and friendly, and we were promptly shown to our room.

The resort is set in lush woodland, made up of bungalows and some bigger buildings all leading up to the beach where the pool and restaurant are.

Our bungalow was located just seconds from the pool. The bungalows arent very big inside, but are decorated tastefully, with a lovely veranda on the front to relax. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are lovely with pebbles all over the floor. One word of warning is that the shower pressure is very poor, through this is to be expected on this island.

The pool is a fair size, partly shady, and is located right on the beach. The beach is not a white sand beach, rather the deck chairs are on a raised platform. The view is wonderful and you can see Koh Phagnan in the distance. Staff are always on hand to take any drink or food orders which can be brough to your sunbed.

The restaurant and beach bar are located right next to the pool as well. The food is excellent. Reasonably priced and varied, everything we ordered from the menu was excellent. As well as great Thai food, they also serve a range of other dishes. It is definitely worth trying one of their pizzas, cooked in a specially built wood-fired brick oven right next to the beach. For beakfast you choose 1 dish from the menu with tea/coffee and juice, all very nice.

The beach bar is great - comfortable seats, TVs and a pool table. There is also a beach volleyball net on the beach, a ping-pong table and badminton net! In addition there is a small massage parlour in a beach hut too. Note that despite saying on the website there's a gym, in fact there is no gym as it apparently closed a year ago.

The Milky Bay resort is is a truly fantastic place to stay in Koh Phagnan. Warm hospitality, excellent food, and a relaxing atmosphere all contributed to a great stay, and we would definitely return!

When we first arrived at the resort we were greeted wtih some nice drinks by OT (I'm not sure if that's her name but that's how it sounded) who promised to help us out with everything that we needed. She didn't disappoint helping us set up massages and boat trips even when they were run by other providers. The rooms were clean and comfortable but given the location I would spring for one of the more expensive rooms if you're worried about mosquitos as we definitely woke up each day with a few bites.

The resort has a great happy hour from 6-7 pm each day with rotating specials. Two of the three nights all special cocktails wer 100 baht including the Coconut Dream (served in a coconut no less). We were a group of five and the staff had no problem charging different drinks and snacks (the pizza was actually really good, who knew?) to different rooms. They also were particularly excited when we asked if we could plug in our own iPod as we could only deal with so much Justin Bieber. Additionally the hotel masseuses was great and the price was very reasonable. Each one of us got massages and all enjoyed the "airplane" position which we didn't experience at any other massages places in Thailand.

My girlfriend and I stayed in a hut by the pool and while we have no complaints the "bathroom" is separated by the rest of the hut with a short wall that only goes up about ten feet so if privacy is a major concern you may want to consider other options. Also while there are lounge chairs by the pool and facing the ocean, there is no beach area in the typical sense and the water is very shallow for a few hundred yards.

Finally the location is about a 15 min drive from Haad Rin where many of the bars and parties are. We really liked staying a bit further away from that scene but if you're in college and want to be closer to the action you may want to consider that. We really liked our location and found plenty of restaurants within walking distance (definitely recommend Fisherman Village where you should sit on the "boat" and Castle).

All in all, at less than $50/night (or less than $25/night each for me and my girlfriend) the Milky Bay had everything we wanted and if we ever go back to Koh Phagnan we would have no problem staying there again.

Room Tip: Make sure to check the happy hour specials before ordering

Our stay at Milky Bay Resort was for 2 nights. Overall a lovely resort. However be careful when getting your credit card charged at the resort as they will charge your card in your local currency with a bad conversion. It was only a few dollars difference. However upon requesting Thai baht I was still charged in Australian dollars. After going back and forth it was useless to ask for different.

Just this small thing left a sour feeling in my mouth. To what was an overall great stay.

My husband and I spent one night here during a 3 week vacation in Thailand. We are both from Wisconsin and we agreed it just felt like "summer camp."
The grounds are covered with shredded bark and the bungalows are arranged about under tress. We rented one of the better units and I didn't sleep all night because of the mould smell and critters in the room.
The pool is nice and the restaurant was ok. It is for a younger crowd...twenties. We got a discount at 1500 baht and found a much nicer bungalow resort right next door for the same price, better pool and ocean front bungalows.
We felt it was a bit over glorified...especially for the price.
