“Great staff but an okay hotel that lacked in atmosphere”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

I am just back from one month travelling around Thailand and during that time I stayed in a lot of different hotels. First impressions of the hotel room weren't the best. The decor was modern and contemporary but some of the fixtures and fittings were in bad condition - stained etc. We had the deluxe pool access room and I've got to admit stepping from the room into the pool was a bonus. Of all the hotels my friend and I stayed in this one smelled the worst for sewage and during showering the smell coming out of the drains was enough to turn your stomach. The hotel is set on a beautiful private beach and they provide loungers and beanbags to enjoy the setting. The hotel staff are fantastic and really went out of their way to help. I needed to go to the local police station for a police report after being robbed on Haad Rin beach and the hotel were great and took me there. Another day we wanted to go to the falls and the owner of the hotel took us personally. It's a family run hotel and very friendly. Whilst on the island I visited another hotel nearby for some yoga and I could see exactly where I felt the Sarikantang needed to improve. With a few more lounge areas, comfy seating and some good music I think this hotel could be a very nice retreat. For me, it lacked atmosphere. I didn't spend a lot of time in the communal areas and spent a lot of my time out with the hotel. The pictures are exactly what you can expect, the setting is blissful and the beach is beautiful.

Location wise, it's in a great location very close to Haad Rin but far away enough to stay peaceful.

If you do decide to stay here then make sure you visit The Lighthouse which is to the left of the hotel at the other end of the beach. The sunsets from here are amazing!

Hope this helps.

Room Tip: The deluxe pool access rooms looked like the best rooms in the resort.

I have been to Koh Phangan 4 times. For 3 visits I stayed at CoCo Hut (next door to Sarikantang).

Deciding to revisit December 2013 only in November, Coco Hut was fully booked. I researched other hotels and wanted a similar location and stumbled across this one.

I can only say good things about this hotel. It is quite small with only 50 rooms. We stayed in the newly built part (4 years old). Our room was gorgeous and overlooked a private pool. The beach that ran alongside the hotel was very quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I found out it was family run! If you want to be near the nightlife, but away from the noise it is about a 7 minute, pleasant walk away. I must also add that the restaurant food was fantastic and their Lychee Shakes became addictive!

If I returned to the Island again, I would without a doubt stay at this hotel. I think it is only a matter of time before everyone hears about it!

A great retreat from the exuberance of Haad Rin in a great location (beach is top notch). Staff were all very friendly, arranged transfers for us to an from the ferry. Breakfast buffet was very good, restaurant food was good value in general in fact - international snacks, pizza, burgers and Thai food. Would go back if I was heading to Haad Rin.

We decided to splurge on this place (we are usually hostel regulars) for a week on Koh Phangan over the full moon party. Our room was beautiful and very clean, we had a private bungalow which was perfect. The beach was also gorgeous, as was the pool, and the two in-house dogs were very friendly and sweet. The staff were all smiles and helpful.

It was a great location for us - still secluded, about a 15 minute walk in to town and the beach, and there was a free shuttle service during the day. Taxis though will not drive you straight up to the resort because of the dirt path so if you have a lot of luggage you will end up carrying it yourselves.

The only issue we had was one night when we came back to the hotel and thought we lost our key. The man on the desk spoke no english (which shouldn't be expected - but our translation book was of course in the room) and esentially there was nothing he was going to do to help us. So we were left on our front porch to figure it out ourselves... eventually we found it though (yay!) and from then on left the key at the desk when we were out and had no problems.

The food was nothing to write home about and we probably would have rather spent the full moon night eating somewhere better for less than spend the mandatory money on their full moon dinner.

Overall it was a relaxing stay and we had a great time there, but it did seem a bit overpriced.

Room Tip: Over the full moon party there was a hotel next door that was booming music for about 48 hours strai...

We stayed at the Sarikantang for the full moon party as part of our honeymoon trip around Thailand. We had to make a minimum booking of 5 nights for this peak period, but we didn't regret it at all. Our room was clean, spacious and bright and the staff added some extra touches (like flower petals on the bed) for our honeymoon stay. Granted, we did not have a view of the beach from our (standard) room, which seems to be the main complaint of one recent reviewer, but within a few steps we were on the resort's own little stretch of beautiful beach, as well as having the option of two good swimming pools, and with everything the island has to offer, I don't know why anyone would be too concerned about the view from their room - we just wanted to get outside! We found the breakfast excellent with plenty of variety, and the buffet dinner on full moon night (included in the cost) was great quality too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff in particular went out of their way to accommodate our exact timings - no sooner had we placed the sign out for them to clean than they were straight on it, so that even when we came back within half an hour, the room was spotless and tidy once again. The location meant that we had peace and seclusion, but could easily get to the full moon party and to all the facilities, bars and restaurants that we wanted. We felt it was great value for money and we would highly recommend!

We stayed for 8 nights over Christmas and New Year. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Koh Phangan and glad that we chose the Sarikantang. The staff were very helpful in booking some excursions for us. There is a shuttle bus 5 times daily into Haad Rin town centre, however, it's only about a 5 minute walk so we never used the bus. The standard room we stayed in was lovely and great value for money. We had to upgrade to a Garden Villa for the last two nights as the hotel was fully booked. I didn't find this room quite as good value as the standard room at double the price but it was still pleasant. The spa is in a lovely setting and offers a good discount to the hotel guests.

The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with a great range of cooked, continental and Thai dishes available. The restaurant is open until 10:30pm and is reasonably priced with a great menu and lovely food. The two hotel dogs are awesome, they hang around the beach and restaurant.

The resort organised an amazing New Years Eve party which was free to all guests. There was a buffet, BBQ, open-bar, fireworks, games and prize-draw. It was such a lovely touch and was a great adult-alternative to the Full Moon beach party.

There are two pools which are both clean but quite small. There are plenty of sun-loungers and large cushions available around the pools and on the beach. The beach is very clean and quite remote so it doesn't get too crowded.

We would defeintely stay here again!
