“Lovely hotel and staff”
Reviewed 27 July 2012

We had a lovely stay in the Havana. The village and resort were very quiet and low key which was great, just what we were looking for.

Rooms and resort were spotlessly clean. Interesting stone cladding in the bathrooms, but fine. Room, bathroom and balcony were all spacious with quality furnishings and nice views.
.
The staff were super helpful, organised a birthday cake for us, elephant trekking and transfers which worked out cheaper (and less dusty) than doing it independently. Breakfast in the hotel was great, couldn't fault it. All the Thai food we had here was just scrummy including the hotel.

Overall we would recommend Havana and the village Thong Nai Pan Yai which is just super especially the laid back-laid down beach front bars and restaurants, not taken over by corporate blandness. Havana is a bit flashpacker I suppose which is not a criticism it represents a good balance between very good hotel quality and value.

We liked the Salvador Dali pool too ;o)

Just spent another 5 most enjoyable days at the Havana, our fourth stay there now. As usual it was great, not only the location on what must be the best beach in Thailand but also the attention you get from Rajah and his two sons who own and manage the place and their wonderful staff. I am staggered to see a previous reviewer accusing them of stealing money from his room, I can't imagine for a minute that Rajah or his sons would jeopardise a business they have successfully built up now over 6 years for a couple of hundred quid. I wouldn't mind betting that the reviewer got drunk at the full moon party and lost his money there and tried to blame someone else.
If you are coming to Koh Phangan you couldn't find a better place to stay for the money in our opinion, the choice the Havana restaurant offers of either delicious Indian or Thai food (or both if you fancy) is unique and just adds to the experience.

We had a room away from swimming pool and on the second floor which I recommend if you prefer to be more private and quiet. We enjoeyd our balcony and we love the hotel's pinacolada and their indian cousine. The rooms were cleaned on everyday base. The hotel staff is very helpful. The only problem was very slow internet con. and we think breakfast could have been more colourful with more variety. The location we loved....if you are after big party you should not stay. It is peacefull and wonderful place to relax. I hope it will stay this way. By the way next door at Dolphin place you can find more european cousine and lovely atmosphere.

The resort is very beautiful and in a quieter area of town. The food and service was good. But one of the nights, we had gone to the full moon party and left our belongings at the room. The room key was with the management. Upon returning I realized that all my cash had been taken out of my bag. Upon reflecting on the trip it has become apparent to me that this has been done by the management / with their knowledge. As I had previously asked the owner where I could change pounds. He even went on to suggest that I leave all my valuables including my diamond ring in the room for safekeeping (luckily I did not!) There are many resorts which are even less pricier than this one for the quality of service. I suggest not put your valuables at risk.

This man stayed at our hotel one night and went to the full moon party. We advised him, as we would do with any guest, not to take money and valuables to the party, as it was highly likely they could be stolen there. All our rooms have safes for the guests to use. This man was clearly still under the influence of drink the next morning and checked out without saying anything. He then phoned us from the mainland to say That his money was missing.
To accuse the management who are also the owners of taking his money is not only libellous but deeply upsetting, we pride ourselves on building this hotel literally from scratch and are very proud of its good reputation.

Stayed 3 nights this week, pre booked on the basis of reviews. This beach is wonderful, really lovely. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful, the breakfast was excellent and the pool comical. Our 1st night was spent on the ground level and we would recommend moving up if possible as access to these rooms is only via the French doors which face directly onto the main thorough fare of the resort. we also saw a very large spider in the room (the reception staff were brilliant) we left Havana for starlight which was cheaper with similar standard rooms.

We stayed at Havana in December 2011 and found it to be a great family place. It really tries to be an upscale resort, but it's not quite there. There are many, many good things about Havana though: The beach in front of Havana is very nice and perfect for young kids. The room we had, which was down towards the beach, was very good and comfortable for the price. We were very comfortable there with two adults and two kids. Our kids went back and forth between the clean pool and the beach. The staff was very nice and all were very helpful answering our every request promptly. Wifi is adequate as well and can even be used around the pool. The daily cleaning of the room is fast and efficient (4 women cleaning together) and they do try to go the extra mile to make the room nice and clean. The bathroom is fine, although it would have been nice to have been able to air it out. The "window" was not open-able. A screened window in the bathroom would be a good addition.

Breakfast is included and the selection was adequate. If you ask for something they do not have, they will try to provide it if you can. However I cannot really recommend the restaurant unless you are looking for Indian food. We definitely preferred going down the beach to Dolphin or Longtail for lunch or dinner -- the Thai cuisine was much better there. Also walking into the village for lunch is often a good option. I think probably because the staff is not locally Thai, the food quality suffers.

One other complaint, the laundry service is ridiculously overpriced. Bag up your laundry and walk 20 feet next door to the White Sand store. Those women are very very nice and you can do your family's laundry for about what you would pay if you hiked all the way into town. And they can do it within one day - drop off at 8am, pick up at 9pm. All for about 250-300 Baht.

Overall we very much enjoyed Havana and we would stay there again if we ever return to Ban Nai Pan.

Room Tip: We really liked the room on the second story closest to the beach. The wind from the beach helps ke...

We stayed 7 nights in a delux room that was very clean, updated, with comfortable beds, beautiful wood floors, spacious balcony, and natural stone tiling in the bathroom. The air conditioning was excellent and the wi-fi service always in operation. The service at the front desk, in the breakfast buffet, and in the restaurant and bar was excellent. The grounds were well kept. The manager greeted us daily at breakfest and was always available throughout the day to accomodate guests. We were there for the water festival and the staff were friendly and engaging, including us in the fun and took time to explain the Thai and Burma traditions practiced behind the new year celebration. The location was good for accessing amenities, walking into town, places to eat, but nested at the end of the beach, so quiet from the local bar music with nightlife. Nice beds in front of the bar for relaxing, and friendly bar service.
