Phuwadee Resort & Spa
Ranked #65 of 91 Hotels in Ko Pha Ngan
Reviewed 19 January 2014

Phuwadee is situated in a nice secluded village with a sandy but stony choppy beach. I wouldn't rave about the beach as much as others have, there is a lot of mess around such as bottle tops and general waste. The sea is difficult to swim in as the waves are very choppy!

The staff in the restaurant are ignorant and don't listen to what you have ordered, the village about 3 minutes walk is much nicer for lunch and dinner! Overall and ok stay but the resort is nothing like the pictures!

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here more by necessity than choice. It was here or a prohibitively expensive villa - we had left it a bit late in booking especially as this was for the New Years Full Moon Party.
The location was amazing although we were a little let down by the hotel. It was overpriced for what is was, its saving grace was because we paid a little extra for an amazing beach front view rather than a pool view.
The rooms themselves were pretty nice but the hotel was shabby, dated, the beach chairs were uncomfortable and the staff although friendly, were not as attentive nor helpful than other Thai resorts. They also found it difficult to understand what we were asking for. The food was below our standard of expectation and for the price. On New Years Eve they offered a "full" buffet which was included in the room price - simply put we left our plates full of food as it was inedible and ate later in Haad Rin. The breakfast was also poor.
Back to the location. We wanted to be outside the madness of Haad Rin for the full moon party but did not expect to be this much outside (45 mins in an - expensive - taxi ride). The Thong Nai Pan Noi Location was gorgeous. Nice restaurants ( Betterthansex restaurant - amazing), nice quiet bars but very small village. If you are looking for hustle and bustle this isnt it. To mention it one more time, the prices of taxi are similar to Western prices, e.g trip to port 1000 baht per couple (25€), return taxi to full moon party 800 baht (per couple)

Room Tip: Choose beach front villa

We stayed here recently over the New Year for 4 nights. We were staying in one of the bungalows, which had all the requirements you would need in a room, air con, TV, mini bar, hairdryer etc. Rooms were in need of a update.

The resort itself is a nightmare to get too, when we arrived into Koh Phangan there was no taxi's willing to take us to the resort unless we paid them 1500 baht. Eventually we managed to haggle them down to 1000 baht, however after almost 12 hours travelling this was the last thing we wanted to do! It takes about 40mins to 1 hour to get there where it is very bumpy as it's pretty much a dirt track without any roads, however I think soon they will have road built as they were doing so when we had been leaving.

When we arrived we were met by the reception staff who were helpful and friendly. We then found out that a couple of times a day you can get to where we had come from for 250 baht by sharing transport.

The resort also put on an evening meal for the guests for New Years eve, which was nice of them. It is difficult with the language as some of the bar staff come across rude, however I think it is more the language barrier than them purposely being rude, I hope......

The picture of the pool assigned to this resort is not a fair representation of the pool, it's a little dated, however you don't need the pool when you have the beach there.

There is a lack of lights around the resort at night it was difficult to find your way around to get to and from the small village that has shops, restaurants, massage, which is around a 10 minute walk away.

I would probably not stay here as personally the area is too quiet and we would probably prefer to stay a little more central, however if I was in the area we would not have any hesitation to stay book.

You will not find a better deal for a bungalow on this beach. The hotel itself is nice, the rooms are clean and the pool is ok, but the main attraction is the beach itself. Very quiet and lovely. The Panburi village has everything you need, a dozen restaurants or so, massage parlors, a couple of shops.

I have stayed here on a number of occasions and return because of the location. It is situated right on a great beach which most of the time is relatively quiet and good for swimming.

The hotel unfortunately is starting to look a little dated especially the pool but who needs that with the sea in front of you?
Rooms are clean and comfortable but pay for ac as whilst the ceiling fan is good, it's not over the bed and the bed can't be moved so it can get hot.

Overall average stay. The bungalow was clean but a little outdated. Water pressure from the shower varied a lot during the day. Wifi was cut off constantly and we had to sign in again every time. The restaurant at the beach didn't impress us. Luckily the village is only a short walk away and there are many restaurants to choose from. Service was ok but not as good as what we're used to in many Thai places.

Still we recommend this resort because of the beach. There's no point in paying more for fancier resorts since the beach is the same to everyone. We've been travelling around Thailand for three weeks and no beach has come even close to Thong Nai Pan Noi.

Phuwadee resort review

This resort is a dated resort on one of the best beaches amongst some of the most expensive resorts on the island!

The staff certainly could be a little friendlier (the main guy on reception), but they work non stop always cleaning and there to help book boat tickets/taxis etc...

The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh sheets and towels daily. Aircon and hotshowers.... This resort is by far cheaper than any other on the beach with everything you could want with a great cooked breakfast too!

Everything seems to be a little tired, including pool and bathrooms. The beds were V. Comfortable and I would highly reccommend staying here again if you can get over the slightly moody guy on reception.

We're thinking about maybe coming back at xmas!

Anatara is the restaurant next door- very pricey restaurant... Walk along the beach a little further to the beach club for a lovely meal, much better value for what you get!

Ps be prepared you have to pay 250 baht for the transfer from the ferry in thong sala to the resort. The resort is a 45 min journey, so you are quite far away from everything. There are only 2 cheaper taxi times the taxi leaves the resort: 10am and 3pm. Otherwise you'll have to hire a private taxi which could cost you quite a bit more. So be aware of what time you book your boat leaving koh phangan. (There is also a water taxi available on the beach to take you to other beaches).
