The resort has amazing views from the hillside and is generally away from the tourist crowds back at TonSai (main port of Phi Phi).
GET A ROOM WITH FULL BAY VIEW! Some rooms are obstructed by vegetation and completely ruin the reason to stay at this resort. We moved easily on request but the hotel was nowhere near full capacity.
We arranged for a Speed Boat transfer to and from the mainland as the ferry option looked slow and CROWDED, pricey but in the end it seemed worth it.
This resort is in the process of continuing improvements and was evident but not obstructive.
My suggestion is rent a longtail boat (negotiate on the beach, although the resort will happily arrange this) for 4 hours (around 1800 Bhat) and go around the entire island to see what might interest you, there are nice beaches and spots to spend your days at. Near the end of our stay we were spending time 10 minute boat ride away (500 Bhat) at Laem Thong Bay (Sea Gypsy Village) which has a nice beach with multiple beach side restaurants.
No beach at this resort although the pool deck overhangs the waterline and is a good spot for sunbathing and relaxing. A 2 minute walk over to the outrigger resort will get you on the beach and we had no problems entering this area and transiting through to the small village behind that contains many local bars and restaurants. A walking path will get you over to La Na Bay beach with is worth the short walk.
Alcohol is available from the poolside bar service throughout the day and a FREE happy hour from 5:30-6:30 with snacks up near with the lobby with a great view. Other then it being available at dinner you might want to bring some with you to the resort if your looking to drink frequently.
Maya Bay (From the movie The Beach) is always packed with tourists so try to go in the morning. Best to rent a speed boat which is the move expensive option but well worth it as it's a long trek for long boats to make.
Overall this resort is good with great views but not beach ideal for Thailand. The staff was great and customer service never failed. Located on the other end of the island from TonSai where the backpackers and tourist hordes amass, so there is relaxing to be had.
