“A good spot on Phi phi island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

My friends and I just wanted some R&R time on Phi Phi island for a few nights. I was able to book 2 nights on Holiday inn resort here. It was overall a pleasant trip. We really enjoyed the scenes here. The service was pretty good. Although the English level of some staffs are lacking, we managed to get everything we wanted. One thing it was interesting was the house keeping brought over the extra blankets and pillow cases outside of my door but didn't bother to come in and change the sheets. In result, I had to change the bedsheets on my own. In the SPA, the ladies kept talking and giggling to each other was not appropriate during our sessions.

Dear Frank S,

We thank you for sharing your experience about your stay!!

I am glad to share with you that we have recently training English language for all the staffs. Especially the staffs front of the house.

I am truly sorry to hear that Housekeeper were not completed their job and staff at Spa kept talking and giggling to each other, I have shared your comments with both of them and that actions will be taken to minimize re-occurrence.

We thank you once again for sharing your experience with us and hope that we will have the opportunity of making things right for you on your next visit.

Stayed at the holiday in at the start of May.... Lovely resort located right on the beach. As we were a young travelling couple, there isn't much going on during the day. It is a relax by the pool and chill out type of a place. It's is 40 mins by boat into the main town of phiphi by boat. Which depending on weather conditions can be a rough trip. Room service was good price is on an even scale. Not as cheap at the main town. But relative to being a resort. If you are party seekers look up stay in phi phi don. But if an older couple, this is your go.

We were here a year and a half ago and really loved it. Now we have been there a second time. Location is still AMAZING. Staff is also really really great although seems a tad less motivated than last time (it could be due to the season as we were there during Song Kran (Thai New Year)

Bungalows are VERY basic - beds, hot Water for shower, a fridge, a TV and AC. That's it! The scenery (regardless if you are on the Beach or more pulled back twoards the hill) is fantastic. You are both on the beach and in the jungle. Flowers and animals everywhere!

The kids Club is good and the staff (P'Phai) so nice. Our six year old daughter prefered to spend 50% of her time there and 50% in the pool.

The restaurants are OK, but after a few days all the food taste the same and we missed alternatives. Luckely you can venture Down the Beach and try some other places.

We will probably come back again.

Overall, we were happy with this small resort and satisfied with the service.

Transfer from Phuket.
We took a ferry from Phuket, which took more than 2 hours, but was comfortable with air-conditioned seats. It cost around 500 bahts one way and you can get the ticket at the ferry terminal. I would recommend taking a morning 8:30am ferry, as it’s not as crowded and wouldn’t take as long as the afternoon one. Because Holiday Inn is a second stop, you would spend time in tonsai pier waiting for most of the passengers to come out. It took only half an hour in the morning, but was almost 1 hour and a half on the way back when we took an afternoon ferry.

Accommodation.
We booked standard garden view room, but were upgraded to the ocean view room. It was very basic and small bangalow, but clean and right next to the beach. I suggest you get a room closer to the beach, as garden view rooms were quite far from the facilities.

Food & Restaurants.
Contrary to other reviewers, we found the restaurant in the hotel is reasonably priced and serving good Thai food. We only ate at Tai Rom Prao, which is a small open restaurant on the beach next to the bar. The food there was consistently good (try seafood fried rice in pineapple) and not much more expensive than Jasmin and Spice and Pepper restaurants, which are outside of the hotel. If you have kids, it would be actually cheaper for you to eat in the hotel, because of “kids eat free” deal. There is nothing special about “Jasmin” or “Spice and Pepper” restaurants other reviewers have recommended, both are run down shacks and if you have a weak stomach, I would definitely recommend to stick with the resort’s restaurants.

Activities.
We enjoyed free kayaks, there were easy to get and perfect in the evening. Long-boats are cheap and I would recommend: Bamboo & Mosquito islands, Monkey Beach and Ko Phi Phi Lee (Maya Bay) trips. We especially had a lot of fun taking a long-boat at 5pm to go to the Monkey beach and coming back during sunset. You won’t be able to do it through the hotel, but can just walk to long-boats and organize it with one of the owners. Just be careful with the monkeys as large males could be aggressive if you have food. They are afraid of the water, so just get to the ocean if they become too aggressive.
Snorkelling is good around north side of Mosquito Island and around Bida Nok/Bida Noi next to Ko Phi Phi Lee island. You can have decent snorkelling in front of the hotel, but try to go during low tide and go over the net. There is a nice drop with some corals, plenty of clams, scallops, plenty of reef fish and occasional rays. It’s much safer to snorkel there during low tide, as long-tail boats are keeping away.
Scuba Diving was not too bad, but rather expensive for what you get.

The setting Absolutely gorgeous. Just what holiday brochures look like. We arrived on our own long tail boat from ferry pier. The guy tried to charge 1200 baht but said no and got it for1000. Holiday inn only charged us 1000 to go back. I do think this transfer should be included as there is no other way of arriving. Room was a coral studio sea view and what a view. Outside shower ok but room already looking a bit worn even though it was one of the newer ones. We overlooked this as we had never stayed anywhere so breathtaking and have travelled quite a lot. Food was good in the restaurants and we paid extra for breakfast which was ok. Would we go back ? Of course !!
