“Paradise ruined”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

We were staying at the outrigger on PhiPhi and I'd been banging on about how beautiful the bay was so I had to take my husband there and talk about disappointing- it was just FILTHY. Firstly, despite the perfect weather there was NO WAY we were going to get in the water. There was so much rubbish on the beach ( plastic bags, bottles, broken glass, socks, flip flops etc) that it was frightening to imagine what was in the water. We then tried to walk back to the outrigger which meant we walked into the hillside next to the bay and things got worse. There were piles of rubbish all over the place, the stench was foul and it was so clear that no consideration is being given to how to protect this place, which only 3 years ago was paradisiacal. Apparently tourists have to pay 20 baht 'clean up' tax - but this money certainly does not seem to be going towards cleaning up. We spoke to 3 other couples from The outrigger who all agreed that the place was totally polluted and not worth a visit. One guy said he walked there from the Outrigger and from a distance he wondered as to why there was no one in the water, then when he got there he understood as he saw how much rubbish was on the beach. We all thought it was extremely sad- but most of all it's worrying about how this could shape the future of tourism in Thailand and this place which should be beautiful. What the locals need to know is that tourists will not go to places that are thoroughly un- inviting due to pollution. There are buildings and hotels being built all over the place but if this problem isn't fixed, they will remain empty.
Come on Thailand- you could be so much better than this.

“Loved it..!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

Personally we loved it but appreciate it's not for everyone. We visited by day because I wanted to go to a memorial for one of my friends who was killed in the Tsunami. Then in the evening we went back to the beach and got a great spot on the beach where w chilled out listening to the music, drank from buckets and enjoyed the fire shows etc. Definite highlight of our trip to Phi Phi Don,

“Beautiful relaxing bay of Phi Phi island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

Dalum bay has a beatiful curve . It is an amazing view when looking ahead to see the bay with its both ending closing almost a full circle, leaving an open entrance at the far end. This far end "gate" is kept as such by high cliffs making a beatiful picture of a stunning bay. Joining this view with the beautiful pool surface of Cabana hotel is an ultimate beauty scene. But the beauty is seen all along the sandy bay. One of the entrances to this bay is just far by less than 100 meters walking along the fence of Cabana hotel, almost behind the TonSai bay pier, the naval entrance to Phi Phi Don island for big boats and ferries.
When looking at the right side (towards North) you can see up on the hill the big antenna where is the famouse high View point of Phi Phi Don island. Climbing up to this View point just before sunset is worthwhile especially when you view at the sun disappearing just behind the cliffs at the entrance of the Dalum bay. What a beautiful view! Climbing up a lot of steps from the village up to the View point (in fact two close View point stations) is not recommended for those tired of climbing steps (and back down to the lower level of the village.

“Not the best beach”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2014

The beach is extremely crowded with people and boats, no any privacy, and not really good for swimming. The water is very shallow, dirty, when the tide is out , it becomes a beach of mud.
Very lively in the evenings, if you like electronic music an fire show, you can enjoy it.
It is overrated, there are much nicer beaches in Thailand, eg. Long Beach/Lanta
