“We stayed at sunset buri resort as it was...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2010

We stayed at sunset buri resort as it was close to a dive shop with whom we were doing some early morning dives. We stayed in a bungalow with aircon and hot water (thb 1600/night). The hot water was a bit inconsistent as the electric heater didn't seem to work all the time which was disappointing as the hot water rooms cost more.

We found the staff were not very friendly. At checkin, they were pretty indifferent and stopped to chat when showing us to our room which was a bit awkward. Also we didn't really feel welcome in the restaurant area as it was more of a place for staff to hang out and watch tv.

Overall, Good location on the beach, close to sairee shops and restaurants but still quiet. Nice pool. Not very friendly staff.

Loved this place, cheap basic little villas close to the beach as well as the action. Nice big pool which seemed a bit rare in places directly on the beach although not a lot of shade which can get a bit hot. The 2 girls who seemed to run the place were great fun and the food was pretty decent for the prices. Due to the location you can always stay a night or 2 here and have a wander around - there are tonnes of places to stay including 600B bungalows right on the beach with swinging hammocks and mozzie nets over the beds - just a little too rustic for my taste - I need aircon! found it interesting though with the general service in Ko Tao - so laidback compared to Samui - it seemed a lot of restaurants couldn't care less if you ate there or not but it's just the vide of the place. There's no way to book this place on the net so my advice would be to either call ahead or book somewhere else and then just wander down for a look - that's what I did.

We arrived here after cutting short our stay at the Haad Tien (see a separate review). Here's what we liked:

- Quite, a nice surprise given the location (right on the beach). We were looking for something secluded and we ended up here, but we had no noise problems.

- Cheap. Yes, the rooms are basic. But the A/C worked, the water worked, the TV worked, and it seemed clean to me. A little landscaping too!

- The location. It was right beside our dive resort, around the corner from lots of restaurants, etc.

- Staff was friendly, took care of our laundry, cleaned the room promptly, etc.

My 28 year old daughter and myself stayed here for 2 weeks last October whilst visiting my son who was living and working on Koh Tao. We moved after one night from next door paying £14 per night per room the hotel is right on the beach with a decent pool overlooking the sea and the fabulous sunsets. The bungalows are set amongst gardens either side of a footpath leading from the town to the beach. The room was clean with a fan above the bed, a fridge and very basic shower room. Be prepared for cold water showers. The bedlinen and towels were changed daily. It wasnt luxury but more than I would expect for the price. It was quiet despite being very central. There are loads of lovely and cheap places to eat along the beach and we only tried lunch at the Buri a couple of times when we couldn't be bothered to go elsewhere and they would serve it by the pool. The staff are reserved but friendly and put right any problems immediately including the smell in the bathroom!

This place is very inexpensive, on the beach and has a nice pool, but be prepared for your bathroom to smell like sewage and to encounter huge cockroaches all over the bathroom.

I stayed at the Sunsetburi with my 12 year old daughter for 6 days and we were very happy there.
We had a very large aircon bungalow. OK, the furniture was tacky and a little bit worn down, but it was still very good, compared to the other crap places you generally find on Koh Tao, especially for that price. I think we payed about 1200 Baht. There was a TV, aircon, fan, little terrace and above all it was very large and pleasant, set in a pretty garden with a nice swimming pool.
They clean the bungalows every day and staff is very friendly.
The place is directly on the beach. There is a small restaurant/snack with friendly staff. The restaurant closes early, at night it's really peaceful.
The most amazing thing about this place was how quiet and peaceful it was at night. Walking on Sairee Beach at night it can get very noisy; there are beach bars all along with loud music, at less than 50 metres. However, as soon as you enter the premises of Sunset Buri (even the garden!) it's miraculously quiet.
It's also a very nice place for families with kids. If you want to party, you have to go next door or to one of the other places.

We ended up staying here after 2 nights next door paying the same amount per night (700 baht) - the room was air conditioned, spacious, clean, included a fridge that was re-stocked daily and a massive bed. The complex has got a really nice pool that overlooks the beach.
Our room was 10/15 metres from the beachfront & the complex is really chilled out, whilst still being close to all the bars & restaurants. We would definately recommend this place.
