We checked into JP Resort after staying the previous night at a rather gross resort further up the island. Because JP's prices were the same as what we had just paid, we were expecting a dumpy room that was small and dirty.

We were delighted to find that the room was spacious and clean, with a large bed, vanity table, and bed table. The bed was pristine and clean, and the washroom was also in a decent state. The ceiling fan provided more than enough comfort, and the balcony was the perfect finishing touch to an already fantastic room. Everything looked brand new and well cared for. My only complaint was that the bed mattress was absolutely rock solid. The walls are a bit thin though, as we were next to three rooms full of Irish people who partied every night until 4am and then came home and continued to blare music and yell drunkely until 6am. Definitely not the fault of the resort though.

The restaurant is great as well, and free wifi is offered when eating. The view from the patio is fantastic, as you are only steps away from a semi-quiet beach with soft, white sand. The location of the resort is perfect as well - within walking distance from nightlife and shops, but far enough away from the noise at night.

We have already recommended this place to several people we know who are traveling to Koh Tao. Thanks JP for a great stay!

Nice place, rooms are spacious and clean and at B500 for a single person in a double room, the cheapest I could find on the Island. Located south of the pier it is away from the loud banging music on the main beach but close to enough that you can find your way back at night easily. Has a nice bar and restaurant, wi-fi, rents bikes. All in all, a decent place to stay.

Accommodation on Koh Tao is tricky; generally a bit more expensive than elsewhere, and nowhere in the budget zone is stand out amazing. After a good scouting out of 10 or so places on the west coast we settled on JP and were glad we did.
For 400-ish Baht/night (we stayed a few nights and took two rooms in low season) it represented good value; clean rooms with great views, very near the sea good chill out area, decent but not outstanding restaurant and very friendly helpful staff.
The bay it's in (Chalok Baan) is quiet but not too quiet, and accessible, with good eats nearby.
On the downside, our mattresses were pretty tired - time for replacement guys!!

Pretty clean, average value and friendly service with a staff of which at least one speaks English quite well, the rating for JP Resort falls somewhere between good and average.

Our bungalow (R04) for two had two beds (one normal and one double), air-con, a fridge, tv, free wifi, hot water and a small porch that was often inhabited by stray dogs in the morning. The room is not spectacular, but for the price of 1000 baht (about 25 euros) per night it's clean and almost decent value. The prices on Koh Tao seem to be going up in a hurry.

The view from the windows was at the road and the reception building, but from the porch you could see just how close to the sea you really were: about 30 meters away. The beach, however, is very shallow very far into the sea, and there are some sharp-edged rocks on the beach. I managed to swim into one and bust my arm open, for you can't see them in the muddy water when the tide is high in the late afternoon. Also there aren't really any special places nearby - just resorts, bars, restaurants and a few shops (7/11 is nearby) - so the location is better for those who wish to have a peaceful holiday with little excitement.

With the sea so close there is no pool, and there is no fitness center anywhere nearby (the closest one is on Sairee Beach). Down the road, though, there's a very nice restaurant (apart from the failing floor and cheap furniture) called Mo Nat Thai Food & Sea Food. The elderly lady here has travelled the world and is extremely friendly.

Room Tip: The bungalows close to the reception building suffer from the noises of the road and the sweeping do...

We spent a week diving in Koh Tao this February. Rather than booking accommodation in advance, we rented a scooter upon arrival, left our backpacks in the rent shop, and spent a couple of hours driving around and checking out the budget resorts. The room at JP was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower and electricity worked 24/7. Their wifi was a bit unreliable but that's nothing unusual on Koh Tao. Their restaurant is decent but there are quite a few better options in the neighborhood. Very good value for money. Would stay there again.

This b&b is very basic but also dirt cheap. The food was good, also the location which is quiet and close to shark bay were the beach is fantastic. Nice relaxed place for budget travellers.

JP has three huge advantages: It's relatively good value (especially in the low season), the views from the higher bungalows are panoramic (I spent a lot of my time just reading on the balcony), and it's on the paved road system (so easy motorbike access to the rest of the island, 24/7 electricity, etc). The staff when I was there were very friendly, the rooms were clean, and there's free wifi that can be reached from about half the resort area. They have a small stretch of private beach, and some rooms have hot water etc.

Room Tip: The highest bungalows are fairly basic, but solid (concrete, not bamboo), and in low season they are...
