“Heaven in Villa 7”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

We stayed in Villa 1 for a night and then Villa 7 for three nights. These are the pool villas facing the ocean. As others have already commented, the villas are large and spacious, designed beautifully into the hillside, and comfortable in a home-like way. Both villas had a small pool (about 1.5 meters deep) facing the ocean, an open air sala for taking breakfast with a view of the ocean, and a separate living room with TV, dvd player, and stereo. Beds were soft with down pillows. The bathrooms were separate suites in themselves--open air but private. During the day, we would turn off the air in the bedroom and leave all the doors open--the breeze from the ocean was regular and refreshing, but never too strong.

Breakfast was included and would be served at your villa. We also had an opportunity to eat at the hotel restaurant near the beach. The food can only be described as gourmet caliber. All the breads/croissants/pastries are freshly made (we believe at or near the hotel). Juices and smoothies with various combinations of fruits and vegetables presented a new surprise each morning. We had no difficulties communicating with the staff (although primarily in Thai). There are many European staff as well who speak perfect English. Unlike some of the others posting here, we found service was always prompt and efficient. In point of fact, things were so perfect that we rarely needed assistance from service anyway. The road to the hotel has some steep inclines and some unpaved sections. We were glad we rented an 450cc ATV which gave us the freedom and security to travel back and forth from the hotel anytime we wanted--mostly to go to Sairee beach at night for dinner and drinks. While the room rates were high, they are absolutely worth it. We found the minibar and food prices at the restaurant quite reasonable. Indeed, Koh Tao was relatively cheap everywhere for food and drink.

The hotel itself does not have a central pool (although it looks like they may be working on one, not sure). However the hotel's private beach more than makes up for this, with clear water and easy snorkeling with abundant coral just 10 feet off the beach. The water remains shallow for some distance. You can arrange for longtail boats to pick you up right from the hotel and take you around the island or to Koh Nangyuan.

We would not hesitate for a moment to come back to ViewPoint again on our next trip to Koh Tao. Shout out to Sabina for her friendly assistance at check in!

Room Tip: The pool villas are quite gorgeous, and each one has its own distinctive design. Between Villa 1 an...

This is a review of two halves: the first: the resort; the second: the accommodation and service.
View Point is spectacularly beautiful. Located in a craggy spot on the edge of a wide bay, the serenity is absolute, and the vistas of the sunsets are breathtaking. The small private beach is perfectly secluded and picturesque, and offers wonderful snorkelling opportunities right off the beach. Taking advantage of the bars and cafés along Freedom Beach is easy, and the restaurant serves excellent fusion fine dining (though for a largish price tag). The cocktails are also unusual and excellent.
While we enjoyed the resort as a whole, we were disappointed with the accommodation. We were in a non-AC sea view cottage, which commanded stunning views framed by exquisite architecture. However, we really suffered with the heat. The room was advertised as 'fan cooled', but this was a free-standing old fan, meaning only one side of the bed felt the benefit. Further, our double doors had no insect screen, so we could never air the room. Sleep quality was compromised, which is not what you want on holiday!
The non-AC cottages are significantly cheaper than any of the other accommodation; and the management seem to treat these guests very differently from their higher-ticket clients. No complimentary shuttle, no beach towels, no phones in the room, and different breakfast options created a nasty "us and them" atmosphere, which is most unnecessary. (I'm sure most guests would be happy to pay a few hundred bhat extra to receive these things without feeling like an upstart for asking!) The demand to settle the whole bill upon arrival following a long and toilsome journey was also jarring. The level of English spoken by most staff is below what I would expect for such a plush resort so communication was often tortuous. Further, the restaurant staff were commonly unprofessional, preferring to run around squealing and cutting one a others hair than serve us breakfast. Atmosphere in the restaurant was quite dead (perhaps most guests get room service?) which is a shame as the setting is so beautiful.
In sum: this resort has great potential , and I would hazard that a stay in one of the pricier rooms would be an exquisite experience. The resort is recently under new management, so hopefully many of the problems we had will be ironed out.

We stayed at The View Point Resort for 4 nights last week, the resort is absolutely breth taking, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to one of there new deluxe sea view cottages which was one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in the views over the bay were truly gorgeous, the hotel has a lovely bar and resteuarant that looks over the sea, there is a lovely little beach just by the resort which has little hammocks which our son loved, the town is a short stroll along the beach which has some lovely little restaurants serving great thai food. You must visit babaloos bar! during the day it doesn't look all that but of a night time it's stunning little tea light all around and on the beach hammocks over looking the sea and such a chilled atmosphere. We will most defiantly be retuning to view point in the future.

We booked two sea view cottages which were very reasonably priced because they were not renovated yet. The resort is in a beautiful and quiet setting, with stunning views of the bay, buddha rock on one side, from our spacious room terrace. The bungalows are designed well, all in wood and bamboo, nice bathroom, all amenities you need, but there was only cold water, and no aircon, which we did not need. This will change after the renovation, these rooms will get aircon and hot water, and some other luxuries, but then the prices will also about double. For us it was great the way it was. We went diving with Alvaro, which is just a few minutes away from the resort, and the little town Baan Chaalok is just a five to ten minute walk away. Here you have a 7/11, ATM, and a number of restaurants. You have a private beach at the resort, and the restaurant probably has the best setting on the island. We were not really tempted by the restaurant since it served mainly Western style food, and we enjoy Thai food too much. The breakfast is good, but a bit pricey if it is not included in your room price. But you have enough choice in Baan Chaalok. The service was super friendly, we were welcomed with a lemon grass drink, suitcases carried to the rooms, rooms were very clean, and there is a pick-up service at the ferry pier. We had a great relaxing stay here, felt privileged in our rooms, and it made our stay on Koh Tao, together with the great diving experience with Alvaro, one to remember.

Stayed here due t a booking problem with another hotel so was unsure what to expect , and a little bit too expensive for me and my partner but the stay was amazing , we were in a garden view villa which you could see the sea from as well which was a very high standard in terms of cleanliness. Staff were very helpful and friendly and overall an amazing stay , if you can afford it, its a must. beach is about 3 min walk and the resort has a beautiful restaurant on the seafront , can also rent snorkeling gear for a reasonable price. one thing was there a lot of steps so try and book one closer to the sea as it will save you a lot of energy haha.

We stayed in a sea view villa which had no hot water or air con however we loved the room. The one thing we missed was a fridge for our water. The view of the sea was amazing and made up for the fact the room was so basic.

The hotels surroundings were beautiful.

The staff who carry your luggage to and from your room are great! When we arrived one man carried a suitcase on his head a backpack and two other bags all himself! They also come and collect your luggage before you check out which saves you a lot of work as there are a lot of steps.

The service in the restaurant was 5*
The breakfast was very nice! The homemade granola with yogurt and fruit was sooo nice! Would recommend pre-ordering your breakfast the night before (if not included in your room rate) first morning we spent 1000baht on breakfast then realised after they had a set menu for 300baht per person which is for basically the same menu we had the first morning.

There was a bit of construction going on when we stayed but this did not affect the views or our experience.

We saw the BIGGEST spider, crab and lizard during our stay which was a tad frightening but all part of the experience!

Overall would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again!

We booked the sea view cottage at just the right time because resort is scheduling an upgrade, which will double the price of room by end of this year. Currently, the sea view cottages only fan & cold water shower so they will add AC & hot water shower. During our stay, the fan & cold shower did not affect our stay because we enjoyed every moment for the price (a steal of a deal in our book) :)

We stayed here for 4 nights & our cottage was excellent in every way! Very spacious with big & comfy bed (romantic Mosquitos net provided). Big bathroom with luscious towels, all the amenities you will need, toilet flushed well & good shower pressure. House-keeping is done everyday & water is complimentary. Free wifi strength is poor in room so we had to go to restaurant area when needed. Big windows & doors overlook the bed, which opens to a lovely terrace area. From here the view is spectacular - truly paradise! We spent most of our days & nights here watching the amazing sunrise & sunset views! It was truly sad to check-out!

The restaurant food was amazing. Price was a bit expensive but the quality of the dishes were superb. We hired the resort's taxi to ventured into town to eat a few nights & also checked out Nang Yuan because there was no other way down. Nang Yuan was absolute beautiful & had a unique beach area. Snorkelling was amazing too. Taxi cost is something one has to consider as it can get very expensive so that's the reason for the rating of the location. However, if you are looking just to stay in resort & enjoy the view then it's fantastic. Staff was very friendly, especially the restaurant staff which were mostly from Myanmar. We had a blast chatting with them as we were just in Myanmar in February this year. Overall, our stay here was top notch!
