Koh Tao Montra Resort & Spa

We arrived to this hotel after visiting other 3 in Koh Tao (since we didn't had reservation we just went "room hunting" to find one that suits both our wallet and our taste) and this was a good choice.
The rooms are good, with a big bed, a nice swimming pool.
The hotel is conveniently located 4 minutes walking from the main street, and thanks to this, at night you almost don't hear any noise so you can relax.
On the down side, the beach is quite small, but being in Koh Tao I think this is not a problem, since you can rent a scooter or 4 wheels and go to any other beach.
The breakfast is OK. Not many choices but acceptable.
The cleanliness I'm afraid was not the best thing of the hotel. The towels and bed sheets had some stains and for the first 2 days they didn't changed them.

Overall, for the location (small island, and with not that many options for hotels) and the price, I think is really a good choice, and I will recommend it.

Room Tip: The rooms in the 3rd floor, with direct view to the sea are the nicest ones. 325, 324 are great.

This is a lovely looking hotel with nice Pool and in a great location BUT the beds are rock hard... There is no hot water and do not stay in room 101 or anywhere near the kitchen as they will wake you up from 430am!
There isn't really a beach either.

I wouldn't stay here again.

Only stayed in Montra for one night as our other hotel had no availability and wished we had stayed here the whole time. Although its location is fine, as its slightly away from the main happening beach but close to the main pier and Sairee Beach is perhaps a 15 min walk? Montra itself is really nice! the rooms are huge and the pool is amazing, however the beach seemed ok (unfortunately it was raining the one day we stayed there so we couldnt really tell) another plus the service is great with Boris manning the desks :) Overall, during our rather short stay, we had a good time and would recommend the Montra if you're willing to sacrifice location for room quality.

I stayed in Montra Resort from the 07/08/11 to 11/08/11 with my girlfriend.
The hotel was very beautiful and it was only 10 minutes by foot from the pier where the Lomprayah Ferries arrives (Mae Haad Beach). The hotel’s staff pick you up at the pier .. so when you arrive look for them!! The Montra Resort is about 20-25 minutes from the big beach named “Sairee Beach” … but you can reach Sairee Beach using with a dirt road … the problem is when it’s raining and the beach becomes a river …
The lobby is not beautiful but it’s nice for a 3 and half stars hotel.
The staff is very gentle. The room was very big and spacious with a very big sofa and a huge (I think is a double king bed) bed!! You can turn on the bed twice before you reach the other person on the other side!! The furniture was new and quite good … the tv was a big LCD.
The bathroom has the wc divided from the shower .. the only not perfect thing was the washbasin … it was beautiful to see .. but it was uncomfortable to use!!
The pool is very big … and it’s an infinity pool where you can see the sea….the pool is probably one of the biggest in all Koh Tao Hotels!!
The breakfast was in the restaurant of the hotel .. there was a buffet … not a huge buffet but you can find a lot of food!! It was nice!! In conclusion I recommend the Koh Tao Montra Resort because it’s a good value for money!!

My husband and I stayed 5 nights in the hotel. The hotel is ok, nothing special. And a bit too expensive for what you get.
The location is not very good, too close to the pier. If you are at the beach, there's always a lot of noise from the boat. If you don't care about the beach, I guess it an ok hotel, the pool is quite nice.
The room was nice, clean and comfortable, with a big balcony.
The breakfast was ok, but the coffee not good. We didn't eat any other meals at the hotel.
We will not stay there again.

The Montra Resort sits on its own sandy beach within walking distance of both the Island's Pier and the bustling town of Sairee. The sheer size and scope of the hotel is superb. Even the small bedrooms, beautifully appointed in a mix of marble, silk and wood are so incredibly spacious. Larger villa size suites lie secluded on the ocean side. The restaurant is a masterpiece of space. Everything has an aura of good taste and authentic antiques accent corners and public spaces. The swimming pool was instantly claimed by our 11 year old daughter and on seeing the rooms she exclaimed, "THIS will be my bed!" Yes all mod cons with flat screen TV, good sized refrigerator and loads of shelf and hanging space. The bathrooms are so large one could hold a small convention in the shower.

Despite its close proximity to the Port (much more interesting to watch the various craft come and go than just count waves on the beach) it is whisper quiet. This is not a rave it up and to hell with the neighbours place. The beach is kept spotless by endless brushing and grooming.
Allied to the Coral Grand Resort at the far North end of Sairee beach it has a dive centre too and a well equipped Dive Shop. Full PADI Courses can be booked here and are executed at the sister hotel.

The Montra Resort is most suited to families, those looking for an upmarket property with the personal touch, newly weds and couples and anyone looking for a quiet, pretty luxurious hotel on a gorgeous island. Koh Tao is a growing favourite for Weddings on the Beach and the Montra Resort and Coral Grand can fill that role amazingly well. Though a brand new hotel, mature management ensures that all the staff know you are the one to please. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Standard rooms are exceptionally large but the villa rooms are worth the extra bucks.

The hotel is located close to the pier which is great for arrival but not so great for the main beach on the island. To get to that you either have a rather dodgy steep walk(on some unsealed roads)for 30 minutes, a taxi for 100 baht per person or if you want to go at 10.30am the free transfer to montra's sister resort. Returning to the hotel at the end of the evening you will need a torch for the walk or 150 baht.
The hotel has two types of room. The first room we were allocated was lovely and large but had NO windows and opened up into a closed corridor. After requesting another room we were moved to another large room which was over the pool and was perfect. The only big issue was no hot water whatsoever for the whole stay, even after complaints
Breakfast was included in our stay, but was not great, there was lots of flies and limited choice.
Montra was ok for a short stay, but was happy to leave after 5 days.
