We absolutely loved it here. The views are stunning - the kind of thing you might come to Thailand for. And the service is wonderful - the team at Chintakiri are so friendly and fun to be around, they truly are sweet and attentive people. Yes the walk is quite steep up the hill - but if you're even half-fit, then it's a breeze. Anyway, we hired one of the hotel's 4 wheeler bikes, which was awesome fun!

This was our most expensive stay of our whole trip but worth every penny! Yes the hill is horrible and you will hate it but a scooter for 150 baht a day solves that problem. I was scared to drive my scooter down the hill and the staff offered to drive it down for me. They were as sweet as can be, very humble, friendly and willing to help you where-ever they can. When I was in the restaurant and it started raining they gave me an umbrella. They work from 6.30 am untill 10 pm and they do it with the biggest smile! The rooms are incredibly clean, beautifull and very spacious. Okay this hotel is a bit pricy of you just got used to cheap thai prices but you get what you pay for! The centre is only a 10 minute drive away. So you get a nice secluded and quiet hotel with the convenience of a nareby centre.

First things first, the hill that every review talks about, it is steep, if your unfit, you will hate it, if your fit, its a bit of a stuggle, but without it, you would not be able to experience the fantasic views from the hotel across Chalok Baan Kao bay.

We stayed for 4 nights in a deluxe room which was modern, clean and had a terrace which provided amazing unrivalled views! Satelite TV and fridge/mini bar were also provided in the room. Staff were excellent, helpful and always friendly. Breakfast selection was great, full english to pancakes to fruit and yoghurt. We also ate in the restuarant in the evening and the food was excellent.

Local area is pretty lively and has a few beach bars and resturants which should suit most tastes, the resturant on the harbour front was one of our favourites. Beach was great of a day also. We hired an ATV from the hotel at 600B for 24 hours, which was a fantastic way to explore the island (helps with the hill too!), you could probably drive north to south of the island in 30 mins. We also did a Discover Scuba Diving course with Sunshine Divers who are based on the beach, the instructors were great, all PADI registered, and provided an unforgettable experience.

Would go back to the Chintakiri and Koh Tao tomorrow!!

We stayed altogether 4 nights at Chintakiri in a deluxe room (actually, we got upgraded). And loved it.
The view over Chalok Bay is 5 stars. You can enjoy it from the restaurant, the pool and the Deluxe rooms. The difference to Superior is the view.
According to the staff the place was renovated in 2008/9. So everything looks still quite nice.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Serviced every day.
Aircon is nicely quiet. There is a balcony with the above mentioned view.
Free wifi worked in the room.
Breakfast is included and tasty. We could order whatever we wanted.

On Koh Tao sometimes the electricity is gone. Then everywhere diesel generators are turned on. If this happens it could get a little noisy (neighbor) on one side of the resort, close to the uphill side of the road.

We were picked up from the pier by the hotel car. The pickup from the pier is a bit tricky as there are kind of 2 exits. Everything is very narrow and we had to look for our driver for a moment.
The entire staff (several are actually Burmese, not Thai) was always very smiling and friendly.

The climb up the hill is steep indeed. But we managed.
But thanks to the location a bit uphill, you can enjoy a great view.

Thumbs up for this gem!

Chalok Baan Kao is a nice beach, quite different from the busier Sairee Beach where we stayed for the first part of our trip. Chintakiri has a superb view of Chalok Bay, but it is worth mentioning that what allows for this view is a pretty steep hill up to the hotel.

The rooms were nice, each with a sea view balcony. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the pool was great.

I can recommend staying at Chintakiri if you want to explore the Chalok Baan Kao side of Koh Tao, but if you want to stay closer to the action, there are plenty of alternatives near Sairee Beach that would allow you greater access to a larger variety of restaurants, for instance.

We stayed here for 3 nights, and that was a perfect duration of time to check out this portion of the island. I would recommend walking around the point to Freedom Beach - a great, secluded beach. All in all, a nice hotel, with good amenities, and a great pool - I would recommend the hotel.

Unfortunately we pre-booked a "hotel" called Utopia Suites located nearby the pier where the boat arrives. Our view was straight into dumpsters and a lousy backyard, so we decided to book another place right away!

Luckily for us we found this place, and got the warmest welcome you could possibly imagine. The staff was very helpful and kind during our whole entire stay, making this an experience to remember.
The view from the resort is absolutely stunning, almost like a postcard :-)
Altough it cost more than the poor place we pre-booked, it was worth every baht we payed.

It takes approximatly 10 minutes from the pier with a taxi, which will drive you up the short hill from the main road.
A good tip is to rent a scooter from the resort instead of taking a taxi all the time.
A scooter will cost you around 200 baht each day, which is the same fare that the taxidrivers require no matter how far you're going.

The cottages are simply stunning with a great view over the thai gulf!

I was very impressed with the hotel when I got there. The hotel has very cozy and friendly atmosphere, new and clean. The hotel is located on a hill, therefore, the view is very beautiful. The room we stayed was awesome with seaview and big balcony, very nice design and full of oriental touch. Breakfast was good. The beach near the hotel is quiet and nice, perfect for quiet and relaxing time. Since the hotel is located on a hill, you have to walk a bit to get to the beach. However, it won't be a problem at all if you rent a motorbike, the bike rental is also provided by the hotel at a reasonable price.
