I loved this place so much. It's small, beautiful, and the staff is top notch. The only thing is that darn hill. That hill is hardcore, it sucks walking up and cabs charge u extra to drive up lol. Otherwise i don't know that I have ever stayed at a more beautiful place. Despite the hill i would stay again. The food was excellent, and so was the pool and rooms. I would maybe stay somewhere closer to nightlife next time but still end up here for the last few days. This place is a great choice for romance. Don't bring your kids.

I spent 6 days with my girlfriend in a superior bungalow. The resort is small and the service is very personal. The boss speaks sufficient english. The view from the pool is beatiful but as often mentioned the way up to the hotel is extremely steep. Its worth it, as the view is great. For people who like to lounge at the pool and enjoy the view its great, but obviously for people that want to have a drink at the beach then later go into the sea, and want easy access to their room...;-(

As Koh Tao does not offer too much accomodation options in that bay Chintakiri is an absolute ok play...perhaps one could check the koh tao resort -paradise zone as it looks bigger and newer...it also should have a similar nice view as its up the hill. Please dont miss eating at New Heaven restaurant and come early as it was crowded later and time until the food arrives can take longer.

Fantastic view over the bay, it's high season which makes the cabins a little pricy. The service is very good and the staff is friendly and flexible. There are 19 cabins all with view over the bay but pay attention if you have small children or have some problems walking, this resort is located on a very steeeeep hill that you need to walk going down to the beach which is located a few hundred meters away. All cabins do have more or less stairs. The pool area do only have 10 sunchairs. I do recomend this place if you just know what to expect. THE VIEW IS FANTASTIC!!!!!

The view is lovely. The rooms are great, but could do with a few more furnishings. The service is great, although we had a few problems with staff not understanding us.
We stayed at Christmas and the prices were higher because of that. We felt that at the peak rates this hotel was overpriced, hence 4 not 5 stars - it would have been fine at the lower season prices.
The restaurant does an outstanding Green curry - best we had on Koh Tao.
The hill is fine as long as you're half fit. It justifies a few more curries!

Yes, the view is definetly 5 stars +, but otherwise this is not a 5 star hotel in any way. And nothing bad about that, a good 3 star place at a good price. And the hill, yes it is just as steep as one can imagine. The thing that bothers me absolutely the most about Chintakiri is how dangerous all the pathways and stairs are here. Most of them have no rails whatsoever so if you have children or poor balance, do not choose this hotel!
The rooms are all built on high poles, and they do not look very stable and furthermore, do not feel very stable under your feet either when you move inside them..
The staff was very nice but only one of them could communicate in English properly I'm afraid. And I think they should have the same clothing so that the guests know who is working there and who is not.
The pool is not very big, but that doesn't bother me personally at all, I do not think it is very environmentally friendly to have those huge pools I have seen around the world. Food and drinks are nice, and here again, the view from the restaurant/bar is hard to beat!! It is of course not my concern as a guest, but I wonder why you plan/build a hotel like this on a steep hill so that the kitchen is a good bit away from the restaurant..? One guy run the stairs up and down all the time with food and dishes, seems pretty unpractical.
A few minor issues that I still want to be honest a bring up here:
- I would have liked somekind of info sheet in the room about the hotel and the island, that is pretty common I think to have
- the lock to the room is horrible, had to fight with it every single time (we stayed in room 113, but 114 and 115 was just the same)
- somekind of wardrobe would be nice when you stay as we did for a week
- the cleaning lady that otherwise did a great job left the balcony door unlocked everytime, I do not like that.
-the AC blowes straight into the bed, and especially when you have an extra bed in the room there is no position on the AC that doesn´t blow someone straight in the face
I will post a bunch of pictures with text, more there.

We absolutely loved it here. The views are stunning - the kind of thing you might come to Thailand for. And the service is wonderful - the team at Chintakiri are so friendly and fun to be around, they truly are sweet and attentive people. Yes the walk is quite steep up the hill - but if you're even half-fit, then it's a breeze. Anyway, we hired one of the hotel's 4 wheeler bikes, which was awesome fun!

This was our most expensive stay of our whole trip but worth every penny! Yes the hill is horrible and you will hate it but a scooter for 150 baht a day solves that problem. I was scared to drive my scooter down the hill and the staff offered to drive it down for me. They were as sweet as can be, very humble, friendly and willing to help you where-ever they can. When I was in the restaurant and it started raining they gave me an umbrella. They work from 6.30 am untill 10 pm and they do it with the biggest smile! The rooms are incredibly clean, beautifull and very spacious. Okay this hotel is a bit pricy of you just got used to cheap thai prices but you get what you pay for! The centre is only a 10 minute drive away. So you get a nice secluded and quiet hotel with the convenience of a nareby centre.
