Friendly staff made up for the few minor problems

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Jan 2020
We just spent two weeks at the Dusit Buncha Resort and must say that the staff was really nice and helpful, which for us is one of the most important things on our holiday.

Yes, the resort is a bit of a trek from the Sairee village and a taxi costs 300-400 baht per car (whether you have one or four passengers) and the food is double the price of the village and yes, they had the same fire show on every night and yes, we had a scorpion in our bathroom (yes, really :) ). But the location and the lay-out of the resort are pretty, the snorkeling in front of the resort as good as anywhere on the island and the staff so nice that yes, we had very enjoyable two weeks there.

Do note, though, that if you have any sort of a disability or are out of shape, the paths to some of the villas have REALLY steep steps with no proper handrails.

Thank you for a nice stay!

We booked a pick up 24hrs before which was great. A smooth collection at the pier with clear instructions.

Location is 10-15 mins drive from the main beach town. Which is very hilly.
The hill is very steep down to the hotel, but once down into the resort, its not too bad. Plenty of steps to help!

We hired a moped easily from reception.

Miss Pameka and Miss Nee were very helpful and friendly at reception.

Breakfast with a view was a bonus in the mornings! Food was traditional thai food. And an omlette / egg station too.

The room was huge, the bed was large, and had surprised us with balloons which was nice.

Our balcony was on the pool level, which had good views, not the best, but could still see through the trees.

I would recommend the poolside rooms if you don't want to walk too far. We did see other seaview and hillside villas, but were private walkways and uphill, too far to have a nosey!

Pros:

The view is incredible and honestly amazing area and location.

The guy that welcome you to dinner and breaks fast taller thai guy and is honestly amazingly welcoming.

Cons:

I would do there basic hotel rooms. The bungalows are NOTHING like what you get. What you got is freely floors, moldy bathrooms, mosquitoes 🦟 and mosquitoe nets that have holes everywhere

Front desk doesn’t care. We had to fight to get the room we actually booked.

The views from the hillside sea view rooms it's amazing but the rooms need an upgrade. You don't have a place where to put your clothes, there's only one place where you can hang a couple shirts and that's it. The bathroom smells really bad and they should do something about it. The breakfast buffet was good but the restaurant was average. They have a really good snorkeling spot below the restaurant that is amazing. If you want to stay here you should know that they offer shuttle service from 8:30 until 16:50, so if you want to stay longer in town you can either rent a scooter or get a taxi which is 100 baht per person. When I will return to Koh tao I will choose to stay closer to town.

We stayed at Dusit Buncha Resort for 5 days and to be honest with you..the expectations didn't meet the reality. The beautiful pictures on the website of the accommodation aren't not exactly what we experienced.

First of all, the location is very remote. If you would like to go to the center at Sairee beach you definately need a motorbike or car as the accommodation provides a transfer 4 times a day but only twice to return. It is 7 minutes with the motorbike to the center. A taxi cost you 400 Baht one way.

The restaurant has very high prices for the food they serve. You must think of european prices for a normal burger or pad thai. On friday there is some amusement like a fire show and a men singing on a keyboard. In our situation, the fireshow just started when we began with our dinner and the staff decided to put on some hard noisy discoclub music. When we asked to put the volume down, the staff started a discussion with us as their opinion was that the fireshow artist needed the loud music. In the end they've turned the music volume down but for me the whole experience of dining was dissapointing.

We booked the suite on the hillside. A beautiful spacious suite with lots of privacy and an amazing view over the sea. You have 1 master bedroom and 1 separate bed in the livingroom. The bathroom needs an upgrade and does meet the expectations for the price you pay for this suite. You still see all the maintenance work and as there isn't any separation between the shower and toilet your whole bathroom floor will get slippery and wet after a shower. Be aware that you don't make your linen and towels too dirty because they will let you pay for it!

Twice we needed maintenance as the shower wasn't working correctly and the airconditioning was leaking. The staff reacted very quickly on this though and sent some staff immediately. Be aware that the accommodations are located at a very steep hillside so if you have problems with walking or have young children, I suggest you to use the transfer car who will bring you to your accommodation and back to the reception if you would like to.

The accommodations around the swimming pool are looking very neat so in case you would like to stay at Dusit Buncha, I advice you to book one of these as the infinity pool is really beautiful and you will be more close to the reception and restaurant.

I would say that if you look for a luxurious place to stay, Dusit Bunchit is not the one.

I got my room thru Agoda which is much cheaper than other booking sites. It’s at the lowest floor, it’s fine as we can still see the sea and we are front of pool.

Stayed here for only one night and at the last day of our stay so I didn’t have issue with the lack of sandy beach. The main reason for staying here is it’s convenience to Nang Yuan island. The island however is a disappointment if your objective is to go snorkeling because it’s swarmed with tourists. There are fishes but not as many as I thought I will see cause there’s sooo many people. The visit to the island will probably have been more worth it if we were able to go to the viewpoint. But it rained just before an hour to closing time and our boat picked us up earlier. Water is very clear. There’s a boat which services guests for 300 baht per person. You can hire anytime to the island and return is very hour.

Back to Dusit, in the morning we went to the snorkeling site with a very small landing and there’s a LOT of marine fishes! So beautiful! You can rent snorkeling gear and life vest at hotel for only 100 baht.

The food at the hotel is twice as expensive as other places but the dishes we ordered are sooo delicious, they are worth the price.

The room is very big, the bed is also big, had a very good sleep here.
