“A small piece of paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

A wonderful resort where we stayed for several nights. It feels secluded and peaceful and the grounds of the hotel are beautiful and very well maintained. The beach which is primarily used by resort guests is clean, with white sand and clear waters.

The individual villas are lovely and modern and clean; little can be faulted. We had a ripped mosquito net which was replaced as soon as we reported it.

The staff are friendly yet a little clumsy at times, but you feel that they are genuinely good and nice people who want to make your stay as good as possible.

The food is good and breakfast is great with a wide range of options, from continental, american, british to thai breakfast options.

The location is good as it's about 15minutes from Sairee Beach by bike. I would advise getting a quadbike and not a scooter as the road to get the hotel is rocky and dusty and it is very easy to damage your bike (something we learned the hard way). With a quadbike, its a piece of cake. If you want to be in the hubbub of Sairee or Mae Hadd, it's probably not the best place, but it's great if you want somewhere peaceful and tranquil.

The resort offers snorkelling and diving experiences with the Reef company, they are a lot a more expensive than other diving companies on the island so I would advise against going with them.

All in all, it was a great stay, and I wouls recommend it to anyone who stays in Koh Tao.

The Haad Tien Beach CLUB is the new division to the Haadtien Beach Resort and finishes are still being done in certain parts which wasn't a problem (not noisy or intrusive).
We stayed for 4 nights in an Ocean Balcony room. This resort is absolutely stunning. The rooms are modern, comfortable, clean and uncluttered with every facility you might need. Great balcony with day bed and lovely view of the beach.
We were met at the pier by the nicest, friendliest, efficient staff imaginable and everyone here speaks good English. Checking in was an equally pleasant experience and we were given access to our room at 10am instead of the usual 2pm.
The breakfasts served would be hard to beat, and to top it, complimentary champagne is offered. Lunches and dinners are equally good, although the drinks are a dash expensive.
The Spa and diving centre looked very good, although we didn't make use of them.
The Beach Club is fairly remote but is situated on the most beautiful stretch of beach with great snorkelling from the shore. There are no convenience stores close by, but the resort vehicles travel into the village twice a day, so if shopping needs to be done, you can catch a ride.
The swimming pool is great, with a very nice beach bar/restaurant.
Management are very visible, engaging guests and ensuring that everyone is happy. I highly recommend Haad Tien Beach Club. We will most certainly be back.

I travelled here with a couple of friends, we had a great time even though we felt like it was a honeymoon destination. Rooms were very clean and the fresh fish BBQ was super tasty! We snorkelled around shark bay and saw some amazing things. Staff were really friendly.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view

The essential attribute I looked for in a resort was that it be on a beach good for snorkeling.I chose The Haad Tien resort because of the sentence in the homepage:

'The beach itself opens out onto a crystal clear shallow lagoon which is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.' ( haadtienbeachresort.com )

The staff were helpful, generous and good-natured about any requests we made and service and cleanliness were of a high standard.
The beachfront villa was in a lovely spot right on the beach and the villa itself was comfortable (apart from a remarkably hard bed).

However like Dr Seuss's Solla Selew there is one problem which is the problem with the lagoon. The water in May is so shallow as to make snorkeling or even swimming impossible or at best unpleasant. There was a short window after 5:00pm when the tide was at its highest and before it got dark, when snorkeling was more or less possible but not enjoyable. The water was shallow and murky.

Since my primary reason for visiting the resort was to snorkel from the beach , it was a great disappointment. Carrying on with the analogy to Solla Selew it was not easy to get to.

Room Tip: castaway beachfront villas between 208 and 215 are good rooms with beach frontage

We had a fantastic 4 days at the Haad Tien in one of the most relaxed resorts I have ever been. The staff was very friendly and accomodating and the beach was pure bliss. The atmosphere and setting was something I have never experienced tranquility and luxury while understated. It is nice they have a diving school on the property which made it easy to schedule diving and snorkeling. The instructors and school were fantastic. The Thai lady working the bar which I wish I still had her name was pure entertainment! The only major improvement which the hotel made up for upon on our arrival was the communication and information on the transfers was very poor. When you go for the first time it is a bit complicated to navigate and the hotel was not clear with pick-up etc with boat, car and airport transfers. If the hotel could get this sorted my experience would have been 5 plus!

We came here for 10 days in May 2014. (the weather was blistering hot and humid as hell, but we come from Dubai, so its easy to overlook).

Of all the resorts on Koh Tao, which is the tiniest island out of Ko Samui and Ko Phangan, then the Haad Tien is THE place for a completely hideaaway, castaway, getaway private couple experience, to "get away from it all".

This resort was the highest class in the entire island, and there are only two other high class resorts here.

Visually, the resort grounds are straight out of a postcard.

We booked the "Castaway Villa" which was on the foot of the ocean. The villla is secluded, and in our space we had our own beach beds right infront of the ocean, a day bed on the veranda of our bungalow, and the interiors of the villa are straight out of a castaway beach novel.

Wooden interiors, high quality linens, bedding, and a romantic mosquito net draping around the bed creating a very sexy atmosphere. Rainshowers, and even a coconut shell pot outside the villa door filled with ice cold water daily to bathe our feet beforing entering the suite.

The staff were a mix of Thai and Burmese. They were respectable, warm, welcoming and friendly. Answered all our queries before we even asked them, and spared no effort in fullfilling our needs (which were very little, as we just wanted to spend time together and read and swim.)

The pool, surrounded by rows of tall palm trees, is a natural water pool, not temparature controlled (natural water), but pleasant enough to spend hours with.

Breakfast starts early, overlooking the ocean, but as it is a hot season, and open air, we spent half the time shooing flies away, when we weren't curling our noses at the not so spectacular variety of food. Note: The breakfast staff are all Burmese (not to be confused with Thai) who generally had just migrated to the Thai islands for jobs, so hardly speak Thai, and even less English. Be prepared to over look that.

The Haad Tien has its own beach, cut off by two sides of Mountain rocks, to give you that secluded private beach feeling, but be prepared to see the occasional backpacker sneaking in from either side, to spend the day on "your" private beach, as if they had just found the world's biggest secret a la Leonardo DiCaprio circa "The Beach" film.

Getting out of Haad Tien to get to downtown Sairee or Mae Haad, where the hustle and bustle is (mostly smelly backpackers and young "up for it" kids), is generaly ok, 3-4 shuttle services going and coming back. Note: Once you are downtown, prepare to be ripped off blind to get back to the resort, taxi trucks charge up to $10 per trip to anywhere on the island.

There;s not much to enjoy in downtown Ko Tao, as I mentioned its full of backpackers, kids wanting to get drunk, and the same shops selling mass produced flip flops t shirts and other general crap.

Ko Tao is not as modernly developed as Ko Samui, and definately doesnt have as much people as Samui and nearby party island Phangan. But we got the experience we wanted, which is to be in the farthest place possible, most secluded, no kids and backpackers, luxury, peace and warmth.

Haad tien is the place to go if you chose Koh Tao island.

Room Tip: Castaway villas for a secluded beachfront experience, villa 217 is the most secluded, but 215-214 ar...
