Haadtien Beach Resort
Ranked #15 of 50 Hotels in Koh Tao
Reviewed 12 February 2010

We stayed at this resort for 4 nights in January. We (two adults and two children) stayed in a one bedroom room with a double bed mattress for the kids. Each room has a DVD player, ensuite bathroom, airconditioner and a balcony overlooking “Shark Bay”. The room was fantastic and the location was even better.
Shark Bay is on the daytripper’s itinerary list and therefore gets busier between 9am and 4:00pm. The resort provides free snorkeling equipment and beach chairs for resort guests (2 sets per day). The bay is beautiful and is far enough away from the main settlements to keep the number of daytrippers down. Unfortunately during January the winds were from the south making the visibility of the water low.
The onsite restaurant provided very good food at a bit higher cost than average eateries. The free breakfast was of reasonably quality (not the best but adequate). Chakipiri, Rocky and Heaven Resorts are in close proximity to provide alternative dining options. Be aware that there are steep climbs to access Chakipiri and Heaven Resorts.
The resort takes people in to the main settlements three times a day. Costs about 300 baht in a “taxi” to return. 700 baht for a water taxi.
Tip: go to Hing Wong Bay for great snorkeling.

Great Staff/ Wonderful Beach/Great location/ Great food: What else can we say but the best deal on the island at the Hillside chalets where we stayed.
Otherwise splurge at the Castaway Beach villas and your beachfront- ocean at your feet

Family resort that takes pride in it guests and aims to please. We had some minor issues that this resort will no doubt resolve. It is geared to grow with a pool to be added in 2010 and a more livelier atmosphere for evening dining

Very quiet at restaurant but excellent quality food at reasonable pricing for a resort of this high standard. We recommended at least some local music to enhance the background dining experience.

Lacking is TV (if that's necessary) but they do provide DVD movies.

Resort will shuttle you into town 3 times a day with pick up. More rowdy in town with dining options if desired. Beach is cleaned at all times but it is sad that Thailand and Asia do suffer from dumping into oceans and eventally plastics and garbage washing up. Beaches are Thailands treasures and sad to see this happen.

Koh Tao is still a great find and not yet a Koh Samui. You'll enjoy this island and Haad Tien. We'll be back!

I visited here 10-years ago – I couldn’t believe the changes. Then just a simple dive school, now a growing beach resort with a wide range of accommodation.

The beach remains just as I remember it – cleaned everyday and certainly the best beach on the island.

The resort, I’m, told is 21 Hectares and now has 26 bungalows and villas built. I stayed in a Hideaway Villa in the gardens, a little back from the beach – all native timber and every amenity except cable TV, but I didn’t go to watch TV! Spotlessly clean and, to my surprise I got two bottles of water delivered to me everyday.

I looked in one of the expensive Castaway Villas, that come with a personal concierge and they were lovely, but at B6500 a night, out of my price range.

Breakfast was included and I ate that at the beach bar looking out into the bay – perfect. There is a new restaurant being built.

Access isn’t too bad – there’s a surfaced road for most of the way, then a really lumpy section until you get to the entry gates (with security people) and then a fairly smooth descent to a parking area. No traffic at all within the resort, so it’s quiet and safe for children, as is the sea, since the water gets deep only slowly.

All the staff were friendly, cheerful. helpful and some spoke quite good English.

My only complaint was that there was no real provision for hanging my clothes.

A plus was the free transfers and a free shuttle service.

Not cheap, but good value and if you want peace, nature, a friendly atmosphere and relaxation, go for it.

I paid in low season B2800 but it goes up to B3800 in peak.

We stayed 8 days at the Haad tien at the end of our stay in Koh tao, after spending more than 2 weeks on the island, going from one hotel to another without finding the right place. We were really relieved to find eventually what we were looking for. We really enjoyed our stay there. The bungalows are spacious (enough to add a big extra mattress if traveling with kids), very confortable, super clean, and nicely designed (although we didn't stay in the most expensive ones that are right on the beach and absolutely gorgeous). The ground is very big, planted with palm trees, but there are not too many bungalows, so they all have a great view, and the place is quiet. The white sandy beach is beautiful. The staff is extremely friendly and would make everything to make you feel confortable. There, the service feels like very personalised. That's definitely a place I recommend !

I chose to stay at the Haad Tien on Shark Bay after going around Ko Tao island for 5 hours, looking at resorts at Sairee, Mae Head, Jansom Bay and some central spots on the island.

The resort has a private beach which was excellent as it's quiet and serene, unlike some of the more crowded places on the island. Plus it's shark bay! So if you snorkel out some distance like I did, you'll get to see some sharks as well.

The rooms were good, air-conditioning was good, there's television and the resort has DVDs available as well.

There are shuttles that take you to Mae Head multiple times a day and back to the resort as well.

The staff were very friendly - they helped us plan day trips around the island, plus fishing and snorkeling trips as well, not to mention going out of their way to make every little thing perfect for our stay.

My friend went fishing one day and the cooks did some outstanding BBQ for us in the evening. The food there was good in general and banana shakes were awesome.

I actually left my glasses in the room when I left the island. After I returned home though, I gave Sue Harris a call (Norman & Sue Harris manage the resort) and she very kindly located and mailed them back to me. What a relief!

Definitely recommend anyone who's looking for some peace and quiet at an excellent beach to stay at the Haad Tien. Great Experience!
