“Poor service, too expensive!!”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

If the location is good enough, direct on the beach, the ratio quality/price is very low!!!

This hotel was the most expensive of our Holiday but the service provided was very poor!!

For breakfast, you are only allowed to choose one of the submitted menu.If you ask for one more nutella slice for instance, they won't forget to let you pay for it, same for an other cup of coffee.

We had booked 2 bungalows for 4 people and, during one of the 3 nights spent there, one of our children knocked at our door: they had such a big gecko in their room, that we wanted to call the reception to make him leave the room: forget it, nobody was at the reception(they close it at 6pm), the curtain was down! "Normal it is a family business" , I was told the day after !!!

Moreover, If you want to share a drink with friends on evenings at the restaurant, forget it: they close it at around 9pm!!

Bearing in mind that we had paid more than USD 1100 for 2 bungalows and 4 nights I will never go there again!!

The staff are super friendly and helpful and the location is fantastic, its right on the beach in a relaxed part of Sairee. Its about a 5 minute walk along the beach to main bars and restaurants so its really quite. We stayed in one of the cheapest rooms and we still payed 2000 Baht per night, I think it was over priced for what we got. The room was really simple and the bathroom was below average. I wouldn't stay here again for the money we paid but the more expensive rooms did look much nicer.

The quality of your stay will depend on your bungalow. If possible, book a beach front bungalow and if not, a bungalow with a large sliding glass door in front. I got stuck in a bungalow that was set back from the beach, with very small windows. It was dark and dreary. The bathroom had a mosquito leak, so every morning I'd find 20 new mosquito friends or a cockroach. The staff was decent but not wowing.

I also stayed at the Montra resort down the beach for a night. It was around $90 usd per night versus the Palm Leaf's $55, but I felt like I got much more than twice the value - the rooms were 3 or 4x as big, fewer bugs, nice pool, included breakfast, professional staff, you can flush toilet paper, real shower, etc.

So all in all, I probably wouldn't stay at the Palm Leaf again but it can be ok if you get the right bungalow.

We really liked this 'resort' (although I wouldn't call it a resort). Our room was fantastic on the upper floor of a bungalow with a private view of the resort and glimpses of the beach area. It was quiet and the balcony was superb for relaxing and having breakfast (ask them to bring it up) and drinks. Buy mosquito coils to ease your comfort. The room wasn't mosquito proof (especially the big gaping holes in the walls of the bathroom) but it was very comfortable with a big firm mattress. There was a fridge for cold drinks. The staff were always friendly and really the setting sunset on the beach is to die for sipping a cocktail with your feet in the warm water whilst it sets on the horizon. The swimming totally amazing…very warm and shallow (great for families). The food menu & cooking could really use some western influence. We only ate breakfast here and the atmosphere at the restaurant is pretty sub standard compared to others on the beach. Our disappointment wasn't the resort; it was Koh Tao itself--it has been built up too quickly, too many hotels side-by-side with grey water being dumped into the beach area (not at the resort though). we won't return to Koh Tao but if we did, this would be the place we return.

Room Tip: Ask for quite upper floor rooms and perhaps not the ones close to the beach as there looks to be ver...

We rented a beachfront bungalow.. It was everything we needed. Very clean, fridge, tv etc... And only a 10 mins walk via beach to Sairee village which serves the best Thai food...the sea is lovely for swimming and snorkeling. ..Palm leaf restaurant serves an array or food till about 8pm ..Sam the waiter , who works continuously from morning till night is great.. He's a diamond ! .. Would defy stay here again!

Friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, clean air conditioned rooms (we had the deluxe villa - two connected rooms for a family with three older children), close to restaurants, on the beach, quiet end of Sairee Beach.

Room Tip: We had the deluxe villa - air conditioning is essential, no need for sea view, as the resort is on t...

We stayed in Palm Leaf for 2 nights on our travels, but I could have stayed here much longer. They have a variety of rooms available from budget beach huts to water front villas. The resort itself is fairly basic in terms of services but the rooms were lovely, it was right on the beach and only a short walk on the beach to the main part of town. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast was fairly basic but still nice and the views from the breakfast restaurant were absolutely stunning. Would definitely recommend to people and will return one day. Thanks guys for a lovely stay.
