We stayed in a beach bungalow which was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was basic but clean .There was a TV,fridge and a lovely verandah to sit out on.The pool is outstandingly beautiful ,looking out at an idyllic view of the bay.The beach is close by via a wooden walkway which is a bit rickety but all part of the Thai adventure! The restaurant has a lovely seating area to relax in however you need to be very patient as service there is chaotic with food arriving at the wrong times and sometimes to the wrong tables. We didn't mind this too much as the staff were really nice and trying their best.Overall a lovely place to stay.It really is a tiny bit of paradise and I wish we could have stayed longer.

We just left Tanote Villa Hill yesterday after a three night stay. The positives were beautiful poolside room, gorgeous pools and short walk to the beach. The negatives were that the newly constructed building we stayed in, while beautiful, had some serious issues with the plumbing ventilation. Our bathroom stank and we ended up spending as much time as possible outside our room! The management was unable to do anything despite our complaints. In addition, the receptionist was extremely rude, arguing with us and not helpful at all. The restaurant staff, while not rude, was never smiled. The rest of staff (manager, drivers and housekeeping) were very nice.

The snorkeling at Tanote Bay is exceptional. I have two children (7 and 9) so we didn't swim too far into the bay, but even close to shore the variety of fish was amazing! All different sizes and colors so close to us and so plentiful! The coral was very nice to see too. A word of warning though that the beach is sharp and rocky and we went to buy water shoes in town our first day as the flip flops were just not good enough.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the poolside building. Get a villa!

We had an amazing 5 days at Tanote. The site is just astonishing on the mountain side, with beautiful views to the ocean an surrounding mountain areas - from the restaurant, the pool and the bungalows.
The hotel service was very welcoming, warm and personal. Celebraiting 20 years of marriage, we felt very welcome, taken well care of and it was sad to leave!
The pool area really great (two large pools, child pool, Jacuzzi) but at Tao, you should spend time on the many beautiful beaches. The Tanote Bay just below the hotel is great for snorkeling. We recommend to “go under” in the morning as you normally find more species (and less people) then. If you’re really an early bird, go up to witness the sunrise (beautiful!), have the beach and fish for yourself and then head up for breakfast with a view!
We also recommend visiting other beaches, they are all different but very beautiful. E.g. next bay, Ao Leuk is very nice – beautiful and good snorkeling. Not far to walk but as Tao is nowhere flat, it I “up and down” but a tip is to join the (free) morning shuttle to “town” and get off at the top, then it is just going down (also to Sai Daeng and Tian Og bays). First time at Tao – NangYuan Island is a must but go early to beat the crowds (coming from Samui, Phangan) – suggest you take the morning shuttle to town and a taxi boat from there, and you probably (as us) be there first of all people! Climb to the viewpoint or plunge in for very good snorkeling and relax on the beach when the crowds arrive. At Tanote, there are no crowds - if you need the crowds, take the shuttle to Mae Haad or Sairee, but honestly, why go to Tao if not for nature, relax and beating the crowds (at Samui etc.)?

Negatives?
Some reviews "warn" for the steep walk to the beach but even if it could be tough for some, it is really not difficult. Tao is mountainous (which makes it so beautiful) so if you’re looking for flat-land, go elswhere. It is really a nice walk actually, a few minutes if your normal fit.
We’we seen some reviews with concerns about constructions. The reception area and surrounding garden area was being updated as we were there but nothing disturbing at all.
The road to Tanote is breathtaking but I would not try it on a motorbike myself. Others did, but we suggest using the shuttle service or taxi (car or boat).

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pool Villa which was fabulous, nice design, well integrated “in the green” and with...

The resort is embedded in nature close to Tanote Bay. It takes a 10 minutes climb to reach it from the beach. It is recommendable if you like nature, infinity pools and a great view.
Positive:
- Absolutely wonderful pools: new and clean. Our kids loved them, the view is marvelous and they are very spacious with only a few people sharing it. They are probably among the largest and most beautiful pools on the island.
- For nature lovers: very quiet int he middle of tropical forest, stunning views of the sea. Birds and ncie vegetation.

Negative:
- has plenty of moskitos 24 hours a day. It's enough to stay outside the room for a counple of minutes. They love your blood. Bring sufficient repellent. Pool area is better
- Quite steep path up to the pools. Rather dangerous for children.
- service is terrible: most of the time you have to spend waiting for your breakfast or food almost 30 minutes.
- rooms are only cleaned if you ask for. Some day they did not clean it even we had asked for. The resort needs more staff. Staff tries hard but it is impossible with the limited number of persons there are now.
- Most unfortunately: the guy working for the Manager is a real cheat. First he maintained that he had not got our booking even though the resort had sent us an email 8 months before confirming all the data. Then he argued that we had booked for a different period. We did not get the family room we had originally booked. What was worse: he tried to charge us the same price for a smaller room. However, we discovered this fraud. The next trick was to tell us that he had not received the 15% advance payment. Even when I showed my credit card invoice they first refused to acknowledge it and asked us to pay again. Only when I refused to do so and insisted they let us go.

It is sad that this kind of fraud is done in a place so peaceful as the resort. However, the beauty of the resort in nature compensated it. We hope that the place wil soon have a good and sincere management. It was the first time such a thing has happaned to us in Thailand, where we travel every year. The actual manager, Mrs Mani, is nice, but she seems helpless with her staff who tries to rip off the customer in a very impudent way. It's shame for the island that things like that can continue without any consequeces for them.

Tanote Villa Hill Resort ist a very nice place in the middle of lush greeneries where you may enjoy tranquility and waking up with the birds zirping in front of your bungalow. The bungalows made of concrete are well maintained, with all the amenities you could need (like coffee maker, tv, fridge) with a very fluffy bed. English tv programms are limited to 2 or 3 only. The bungalow are cleaned daily.
Uphill there is the restaurant and pool area. The menu is quite alright. Recently there was another pool and a hotel like building added. Wifi is available in the restaurant area for free. Service was excellent and the manager really really lovely.
To reach the beach you can use a wooden pathway which is a little bit dodgy but safe, only going back it maybe tricky to find the entrance. Tanote bay itself is okay for snorkeling, the waters were quite shallow so you had to be careful not to cut you on the corals. Beach was clean with not so soft sands ......... Big advantage is that the area is much more relaxed and not so overcrowded like it is on the other side of the island.
To reach the resort you would like to use the pick up service from the harbour. And if you are up for some shopping you can get a free ride twice a day ( at 8.30 and somewhen early afternoon fixed times).
Overall i would go there again for a pleasant couple of days off!

Room Tip: closer to the pool and restaurant area you will avoid to much steep climbing

My husband and I arrived at Tanote Villa Hill resort in mid-April and were bitterly disappointed. To say their website falsely advertises is an understatement. We arrived not to the tranquil sound of the forest, but to a building site. Something both their website and Agoda failed to mention to us when booking the room.
We tried to make the best of it, but the incessant drilling while trying to chill out by the pool was extremely annoying. We brought this up with the hotel manager (a lady called Duangkamon) who said she would ask the builders to 'keep it down'. How she expected to achieve this I don't really know, but suffice it to say the builders weren't able to keep it down and the noise continued. Noise that was also perfectly audible from our room from 8am - 6pm. When we brought this up with her again, we were told in no uncertain terms to pretty much just get over it and to stop making such a big deal out of it.
Unfortunately we were also very disappointed with our room, it was not decorated to the quality promised on the website at all. Wall paper was peeling from the walls, the doors didn't close properly which allowed mosquito's in (no mosquito net was provided) and the curtains were shabby and actually even badly torn in some places. Even the safe wasn't attached to anything so could be easily picked up and carried away (?!).
We decided that, as these were our last two nights on the island and considering the circumstances, we'd ask if we could have a refund for the second night and go and stay somewhere more peaceful. However, when I brought this up with Duangkamon to say she was unhelpful and rude is a vast understatement. I have honestly NEVER had to deal with such an unprofessional and passively aggressive person in all my life. I was absolutely appalled by her behaviour and her attitude. She was rude, condescending, she lied to our faces about what she was / wasn't able to do for us, and she point blank refused to help us in any way shape or form.
Thankfully Agoda were absolute stars and responded quickly to our complaint and refunded us the money for the second night within a couple of hours so that we were able to leave first thing the next morning.
I sincerely hope that, should you decide to stay at this hotel, that you don't have the displeasure of dealing with Duangkamon directly yourself. Honestly, we are quite laidback people - if she had been helpful and apologetic re the building work, perhaps offered us a couple of beers as compensation, we would have stayed. But the very fact that she was completely disinterested in our needs (despite the hotel not being particularly busy) and the fact that these were our last precious moments of holiday, we decided to leave, and [after experiencing her attitude] boy oh boy are we glad we didn't put another penny in their pockets!!
We also ate lunch here too soon after we arrived, and were not impressed with the food.
Based on the decor, the food and the staff, this hotel vastly over-sells itself and there are much nicer places to be found in Koh Toa in my opinion.

I stayed at Tanote Villa with my bf and an another couple. The location is breathtakingly beautiful and hands down the best place we stayed in during our month long trip to thailand.

We booked on Agoda, there was a mistake with our booking and our rooms had been double booked so we ended up paying a little bit extra and getting the most amazing room, very secluded and with our own private pool! amazing view and very large room, very clean.

The staff in particular "Lay" were great and very friendly and helpful.

There is a very rickety long walk way down to the beach prehaps not suitable for elderly or pregnant or those scared of heights, half way down the walk way you will find an even more scary little bridge to Jah Bar! well worth the crossing!

We would definately stay again if we go back to Koh Tao
