Visibility was not that good, as the dive sites are pretty crowded. Beautifull coral and small marine life.

We snorkeled on the most "popular" spots; Mango Bay, Shark Bay and Koh Nang Yuan. All of which are great, although I do not think they can match snorkeling off Koh Lipe or Koh Phi Phi Leh.

Nevertheless, you will experience great snorkeling and see some impressive coral reefs.

I can imagine diving around Koh Tao must have been outstanding 20+ years ago. Undoubtedly it's probably one of the cheapest places to learn to dive, and this tiny island certifies an unbelievable number of divers per year, but it's taken it's toll on the marine life. It's quite common to see ten or more large dive boats on a site, so the sites can be crowded. Of course, if you're lucky enough to have a whale shark or manta encounter it will make your holiday, but marine life in general is disappointing and depending on the season, the visibility can be poor. From what I've seen, the Red Sea offers much better diving.

I used to dive at koh tao for 20 years , but I will not anymore. My last dives were just ridiculous .The last El nino had kill the fews corals and the fishes have almost dissapear .You will see ,now, only hundreds of divers under water. Some of them will post reviews ,that diving at koh tao was fantastic ,but that the view of beginners amazed by them first breathing underwater during them holydays time .Certainly not the views of confirmed divers who can be only dissapointed !

Very nice Island with superb diving at Shark Island and very good snorkelling at Shark Bay. Getting more and more crowded each year though and I can see the obvious exploitation coming...
