“Koh Tao's best place”
Reviewed 11 January 2009

We spent 8 nights on Koh Tao island and stayed in 4 different places. For the overall experience Anankhira was # 1.

A beautiful, peaceful property located within (longish) walking distance of Sairee beach and town. 3 villas, each with their own pool, means leaving the actual villa to go into town is a hard decision!

The villas are a perfect place to unwind and relax but are close enough to town to sample the many restaurants and nightlife if that is what you want. An outdoor living room with TV, DVD, hammock and couch (and view!) is perfect for a beach location and the air con bedroom provides the creature comforts too.

Eric & Loulou, the French couple who manage the property, cannot do enough to make your stay exactly what you want it to be. Thank you so much!

As a frequent traveler to Thai islands I applaud when I see something different than the typical run of the mill hotel. I was pleased experience a private experience at Anankira Villas.

I am not going to go into a long discussion on the facilities, but basically you get a romantic cottage/villa with a private plunge/dip pool, airy living room and a gorgeous and unique bedroom. You have all you really need within the dwelling and need nothing more. The only negative is that there is no restaurant and you need to walk the 300-400 meters to the beach or rent a motorbike if you prefer not too walk.

All in all it's a great place for grown ups that want a bit of privacy and don't want to see a lot of other tourists or snotty kids.

We stayed at Anankhira for 3 nights in September, it was a very relaxing place, very secluded with a beautiful private dip pool (and we had no issues with the pool) and in a very eco friendly environment.

The staff are extremely helpful and are just a phone call away, they can organise dinner from a Mexican/Pizza/European take away place called "El Toro" which is not bad and they will go and collect it for you (the breakfast also comes from "El Toro" and was included in the price).

There is only one restaurant walking distance from the Villas which i would highly recommend, at the Koh Tao Cabana Hotel and they have lovely Thai/European food, the restaurant is a 3 minute walk from the villas, i would suggest you take a torch as there are no street lights for the walk home.

Anankhira has 3 villas, we stayed in Villa 2 which was lovely with an outdoor tv/sitting area and outdoor bathroom. The bedroom is indoors and the airconditioning works very well. They have a selection of great DVDs and Sky Tv.

The only warning i can give you is be prepared to see a couple of "little friends" (SEE PHOTOS) in the outdoor sitting area and bathroom, otherwise you will love it!

Urgh, what a total rip off! If you are looking for a hotel that has zero privacy, no beach, no restaurant, critters galore...then this is your place. The only nice thing about the hotel was the view of the beach. The living quarters and bathroom are all outside, so there is no escaping the heat, frogs, massive lizards and bugs. We are pretty outdoorsy people, but this was a little over the top. We would have been much happier spending half of the amount to get a place on the beach, but we didn't know. Oh, and to top it off, our pool seemed very dirty and we couldn't enjoy it as honeymooners because there is no door to the room. Anyone can peak in.

Regarding the review "Rip Off!!!!"

While we appreciate everybody comments, we feel that our website very thoroughly explains the concept of our three small villas. The fact that the reviewer refer to them as a hotel, write about the beach, the outdoors living space concept, privacy and so forth seem to indicate a lack of research prior to booking.

We find that happens once in a while and always let our guests check out early if they decide the concept is not for them.

Regarding our pools, then we have a good quality pool machine for each pool and we run them as per standard operating for all hotels. Due to the unique chemical composition of the water on Koh Tao, once chlorine is added, the water will for a very short period turn slightly reddish in color (the water on the island has a high concentration of different irons).

In conclusion, we want every potential guest to very carefully study our website and our concept before making a booking, especially since detrimental reviews due to a misunderstanding of our concept rather than actual problems with our villas are unfair to us, annoying to guests that are looking for a real resort and of course to guests that geniunely like our concept but get scared off due to a bad review.

In the case of the customer writing this review, they were allowed to check out early and helped with finding alternative accommodation.

These villas are stunning without a doubt, but..... When we arrived we immediately jumped into our pool to realise that we had dirt all over us? It seemed it had something to do with the chemical reaction of the chlorine? The guy in charge took us to a beach whilst they cleaned it but we couldn't use the pool untill the following day. The pool was fine for a day or so, but we then realised that they hadn't put the filter back on, so we had the same problem all over again!! We have been to Thailand quite a few times and are quite used to the wild life, gheko's, the odd cockroach, but one night we were greeted by two fat rats in our bathroom, which we then realised that there were rat droppings all over our apartment. For the problems we encountered and the reactions of the staff this place is over priced. If they sort out their problems this place is a gem.

We just finished 3 days staying in Bungalow 1 at Seaview Anankhira. Overall the place is very beautiful but a few things made it a bit expensive for what was provided.
The set of the hut is absoloutely beautiful... open balanese style with 3 seperate areas. The living room was outside but covered and kept out the rain but let in the nice breeze. The TV/AV set up was amazing with huge TV, DVD and great surround sound. They also provided you with a folder of DVD's which we thought was a nice touch. The pool are was next to the living area and had a fantantic view of Sariee bay (the beach is about 500m away but nothing to rave about). The bed room is lovely and clean with soft lighting, air con and another TV/DVD. The bathroom was open air and provided great views although tended to be a little too open sometimes.
All this was fantastic but considering the price we paid ($4900BHT) there were a few problems.
First, there was no information in the room concerning checkout time, minibar pricelist or appliance operation. The minibar is priced by the affilated resturant (menu supplied). So we didn't realise that the water was not provided free of charge (which I think shoud have considering the room price), and where also unsure about the operation of water heater etc.
Second, the pool was not that clean over our stay. The first day was fine but then i think the filter broke because the second day you couldn't see the bottom. But once we told the manager he had it fixed but it took until the next day to be clean again. (Note: make sure the jets/fountain are left running - i think this cleans the water). This was dissapointing considering this is the reason to stay here.
Third, the air-con leaked the first night and the kettle was very tempermental - we couldn't use it for most of our stay.
These concerns are pretty minor but considering the price i think they are reasonable.
Overall, thought the place is very beautiful and if the little things were fixed then it would be a fantastic place to stay. I my opinion Koh Tao is overpriced for luxury accommodation - you might want to consider elsewhere.
Also, if you are looking for absolute privacy then bungalow 1 is not for you... maybe try one of the others... i think one of the other posts said no. 3 was more private.
