“Nice & clean but overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2008

Hadn't pre-booked but just turned up - having thought this looked a nice area.
Only stayed the one night as fortunately they were fully booked the following night. Next morning we strolled just 50metres along the beach and walked straight in to paradise with room 11 at the Big Fish Resort.
1000bht less a night - and a lot more spacious - and we had the best view of the whole bay whilst the gentle lapping of the waves beneath the balcony helped us to a great nights sleep. We ended us staying another 5 nights!

We arrived at Koh Tao island with nowhere to stay and were approached by a taxi driver at the ferry terminal who patiently listened to what type of hotel we were looking for and took us to Sairee Huts at Sairee Beach. Didn't much like it there (will write a separate review) so stayed one night and asked a taxi driver to take us to Koh Tao Resort. We asked if they had any vacancies and were offered a standard room for 2000 baht or a deluxe for 2500 baht. The standard room was rather basic so we opted for the deluxe.

The room's location was fantastic, just a few steps from the beach. It had a double bed and a single, aircon (absolutely vital!) adequate hanging space and drawers for clothes, a large TV, though the picture was awful, but then, I don't go on holidays to watch TV. The bathroom was quite large and amenities were provided. The only thing missing was a kettle so a cuppa on the terrace was out of the question!

Rooms were spotlessly clean and all linens were changed daily.

Breakfast was provided buffet style and there was also an egg station which provided eggs in any style you wished. It was OK - had better, had much worse.

The staff were fantastic with all of them speaking superb English. We went to Koh Tao for snorkeling and the guy at the beach bar sorted out a long tail boat to take us around the island for the day stopping at all the major dive/snorkeling sites.

The food at the restaurant was generally excellent and the portions large. Both western and Thai food were available at quite reasonable prices especially considering the portion sizes which can often be quite small in Thailand.

All in all an excellent stay and will definitely stay there again. I'm quite puzzled by all the negative reviews on this site because, believe me, I'm fussy! If I have to find fault it would be an 'eggy' smell in the bathroom for a few minutes after the shower is turned on but certainly nothing to complain about given the quality of everything else.

Ko Tao Resort feels a bit too institutionalised but the setting and feel of the place is very nice.

We searched high and low for places to stay in Ko Tao and perceived this as the best in the price range. There are new places opening every week so I’d suggest looking around as much as you can or even booking when you get to the island.

We had a superior room, but it felt like you were in a nondescript Hilton room. The fly screen on the door also didn’t work and our room seemed to be next to the kitchen so had loads of bugs all day and night.

The breakfast was ok, but they should offer more fruit, apart from just pineapple.

The pool was lovely but if you’re hoping to snorkel in the sea you’ll be very disappointed, as you won’t see a thing.

We didn’t rate the diving/snorkelling on ko tao (shark bay seemed to be the best, but not close to the shore) but snorkelling around Ko Nangyuan was much better.

We came to Ko tao hoping it would mirror the perhentian islands in Malaysia, but it was no comparison.

We stayed 5 nights at The Ko Tao Resort Paradise Zone in a Deluxe Seaview room and an extra two in the Paradise Deluxe room. This Part of the resort is quite new, opened in January 2008 and were offering introductory discounts of 40% on every room.

The view from The Paradise Zone is amazing with views across to both Chalok Baan and Thien Ogg Bay, the pool was fantastic and everything was very clean and new. I do think that this hotel will age quite quickly as the materials used in building it weren't the best quality. However, at the moment it looks great.

We eneded up staying in three rooms over the course of our stay. the rooms all vary considerably and its well worth having a look round some rooms before opting for one. The first room we stayed in was tucked away at the back of the hotel but was very spacious with a nice balcony and a second kind of conservatory space that can be used when the weather isn't so good. quite a lot of the rooms had these. We had a nice view of Challok Baan.

We decided to stay an extra two nights at the hotel and as our room was booked we had to move rooms in order to stay. The second room was fantastic, at the front of the hotel with amazing views over both bays. There was no balcony but we did have a conservatory space and there were windows all around the room. Unfortunately before we got a chance to sleep in this room there was a brief rain storm and water began to come through the light fittings in the room. The hotel tried to move us to a less nice room but eventually conceeded and upgraded us to the Paradice Deluxe room which was amazing. We had panaramic views a huge jacuzzi bath, flat screen TV. We spent our last two nights on Koh Tao here and thought it was fantastic despite the weather not being great.

The Paradise Zone is at the top of a rather long, steep hill and you either need to hire some sort of bike or make use of the hotels complimentary taxi sevice which is every 30mins until 10pm.

We should probably also mention tthat the staff at the resort were polite and helpful and there were a lot of them.

Overall we had a great time at The Ko Tao Resort Paradise Zone but I'm not sure that we would pay to stay here without a 40% discount. This would make the prices a bit on the steep side for Koh Tao.

not very typical thai hotel. Everything is clean, but swimming pool is small and rapidly overcrowded. Staff is not very welcoming too.
Too much people, feel like beeing in Canaries island or US island in Thailand!

Rooms (deluxe one) are quite small, no real intimacy since rooms are close to another, you can even hear your neighbours talks!!! Bathrooms are very very small.

We were looking for a relaxing luxury holiday on a shoestring budget so we originally booked the v iewpoint resort and we never thought this hotel would be in our budget. For £20 a night for the two of us we weren't expecting too much but we got sick of the viewpoint, lighting in the room was terrible, and in the heat we longed for a pool and something a bit special. As it was my fiances bday we thought we would pay a bit more to stay soimewhere nice for a few nights so we called up this idyllic picture in the 'Ko Tao Guide' and it turned out then had basic rooms for £25 which included a large buffet breakfast! After camping in hill villages up North we were so excited to be staying at this resort. It just took the pressure off having to go out all day and if we felt like it we could stay at the hotel all day. We are a really active couple who love to explore but it was nice to relax by the pool after coming back from a day out exploring on the moped. Watched the sunsets over the infinity pool! Our room was basic but nice, 24hr electric, balcony, en suite, mini bar, fridge which they filled with free bottled water everyday for us. Clean towels everyday. They gave you a towel at the pool too and lovely fruit smoothies by the pool for under £1 (bit more expensive than the rest of Thailand but the location was amazing!) The restaurant for dinner was lovely too - certainly reasonable but we always went and had this buffet/bbq on the beach Chalaak Baan which was for the divers. At first we thought the food looked like it had been sitting around for a while etc. but it was GORGEOUS! The BBQ fish was divine and I dont usually eat fish. So I'd def reccomend that. And they had happy hour between 7pm-8pm where 2 cocktails was only 100 Baht!! Heaven! Note this was not the hotel but its just along the beach from the hotel. Back to the hotel, staff were lovely, only thing was you have to walk through the garden and up some steps to get to our room but we didn;t mind that one bit. It really made our holiday finding this place!
