“Wow, what views and beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2008

If white beaches with superb views are your bag then this is the place for you.
Although the rooms are just average, the location of the hotel right on a white beach and with lovely views over a bay are beautiful. The infinity pool overlooks the sea and at night the lighting around the hotel and through the grounds are very romantic. Just a short taxi ride away are the beach parties which are awesome. Very good value for money and excellent service. Paradise

Rooms: Very elegant, clean, spacious and new. The balcony was a bit small. We were in a Deluxe. With 2 double bed in the room.

Service: the service in the hotel was excellent. During the breakfast the staff run to make up your room, every day. It's really great to come back from breakfast and your room is done.

Situation: The hotel is about 5min from the main resort on the beach, is on a small hill but it's ok. it gives more privacy. And the view is spectacular. The swimming pool is amazing as well as the terrace.

Restaurant: Very good with an enormous choice of thai and international food. The prices are slighlty higher than restaurants in town but it is very reasonable. The staff and the food are excellent.

We want to come back we loved this hotel!

A very nice hotel on a great beach. Our room was very well furnished, very clean and had a good minibar. It's literally sitting on the beach. Very nice pool, good restaurant and friendly staff. While it's a bit pricier than the other resorts on this beach, it's surely worth it for the quality and service provided.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here in aug . we stayed in the paradise zone, its up on top of a hill and the views are beautiful. The hotel is amazing as you have dinner looking over the whole island and the pool also looks over the whole island. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and extermly helpful. When traveling through thailand and other countries the staff in ko tao have been the best and most friendly. The hotel was the best hotel we stayed in thailand. The one thing that was a problem was our room was really small and cramped with little storage. I would have thought paradise zone would have had paradise rooms. We quickly got over this though as the rest of the hotel makes up for it.

Booked a Deluxe Sea View room at the Paradise Zone over the web from the UK. All very easy with courteous staff and they were always very prompt with their replies. And with a 40% discount meant that 9 nights came to just over £400 for me and my wife. Now I admit that does sound a lot for Ko Tao, but having been going there on and off since 1994 - when 150 baht per night for a hut was the order of the day - it is very nice to be able to go there and do it in a bit more style.
The Paradise Zone stands head and shoulders above the beach level resort, which whilst still nice, is much busier and the accomodation is not as good. The Deluxe Sea View room at the Paradise Zone was a great size with balcony overlooking both bays, turndown service every evening, cable TV to watch Wimbledon on after a tough day, aircon, minibar, great bathroom, etc, etc. Now you won't get that for 150 baht a night.
During the early part of the day it was great to chill by the infinity pool and due to the time of year we were often on our own or perhaps there would be up to 4 other people there.
Drinks were brought over to the pool and added to with chilled water once in a while by the very friendly staff - somehow they just seemed to know when you needed cooling down. Then for a spot of lunch at the restaurant overlooking Shark Bay and just taking in the view. Food was great - good sized portions and if you're not too keen on the full Thai spice experience (like my wife), they'll happily turn down the heat for you. All came very speedily and again, staff were always very friendly.
Evening meal was just as good, overlooking the pool and the bay but we also went to other places in the evening as we didn't want peace and quiet all the time.
We only used the bar to order drinks during the day as it was way too quite for us in the evening so we had the odd evening at Eazy Bar, a 15 min stroll down the beach where you can get 'singles' from the bar along with your Singha. There is a party bar further along the beach called Babalou which held a proper party one night we were there - beating the hell out anything going on on Sairee beach. I got the impression these took place weekly at most but well worth going to if you're there and like a bit of full on progressive house. If not you could always chill out at the Reggae Bar just down the road from the resort.
Sairee Beach has changed a great deal over the years, as has the island to be fair, and we went down there for a couple of sunset beers and some chilled tunes at Fizz. Years ago Fizz used to be New Way bungalows and the bar used to be a dive master's bungalow. But thats progress. Its still a nice and relaxing beach though and the sunsets are great if you get the weather.
We spent a couple of evenings having food and a few drinks at places on Sairee beach and again, its all very relaxing. We were both laughing at ourselves being the old mid to late 30s couple in a beach bar with the clientele resembling the surf club from Summer Bay - many Rupert's and Harriet's enjoying their gap years/travels and it brought back the memories and made us really pleased to be there. In fact, we met quite a few people of an elder persuasion who'd been travelling there in years gone by but were now doing it with a bit more cash in the pocket - although sadly going back home to careers and mortgages. You can't have it all though. But we stayed away from the main strip of Sairee as it is well and truly developed now - even with a pub called Choppers which could have been straight out of anywhere. And if you're desperate to use the web then there seemed to be about 4 machines for every person so you won't have any trouble. But for us it was just immense to be away from the web for a couple of weeks.
I'd definitely recommend getting a quad bike whilst there to get around and see the parts of the island that have remained pretty much as they were almost 15 years ago. Hing Wong Bay is great for snorkelling or cayaking and there are great views of Ko Nang Yuan if you head out past Sairee. In fact, if you don't mind tearing up and down deeply rutted and sometimes very steep tracks you can find some truly exceptional spots. Clearly quite a lot of people did mind as we saw the inevitable cavalcade of moped injuries - crutches, slings, bandages on limbs and heads, exhaust burns, iodine stains, cuts, bruises, etc. Four wheels seemed the better option for the occassional rider.
9 nights came and went all too quickly and then it was back to Bangkok for a night and then London. But we've already decided to go back next year at the same time to soak it all up again.

Like others, we searched high and low for a place to stay within the price range of what Koh Tao Resort has to offer and there it was, on the internet offering 40% discount so we booked it.
The photographer did a great job on the website but that wasn't good for us at all. The hotel has 2 locations close to each other; the recently built one is much nicer- it 's called Koh Tao Resort - Paradise Zone. The single queen size bed we booked for our honey moon ended up being a twin size bed and then they told us the other "double" bed was free (huh?). The waitress/waitor (who knows) hit on my husband and brought out his/her coworker to check him out in front of me. Then they bugged us serveral times to ask random questions about our trip while we were eating. In addition, they were "out" of most of the thai dishes that were on the menu and the food we had was not good at all. In fact, most of the stall food we had were much better in comparison.
Here's an outline of the good and bad about the hotel.
Good: the place is very decent compared to the other "resorts" in the area and the rooms are clean with AC and hot water. The front end staff are nice. The hotel offer free rides to town at certain times of the day. Any other time, it will cost you 500 baht.
Not so good: The free internet didn't work once while we were there for 3 days. The swimming pool was about a jacuzzi size. The restaurant had creepy staff and bad food. The floor is always supper slippery so be careful.
I would only recommend this place if you are looking for a hot shower and a nice, clean place to sleep and that's it. For better food and places to hang out, from the hotel drive to the other opposite side of the island - keep going (instead of turning left to the pier or it's side streets), drive farther and you will find better restaurants, food, and people.

Hadn't pre-booked but just turned up - having thought this looked a nice area.
Only stayed the one night as fortunately they were fully booked the following night. Next morning we strolled just 50metres along the beach and walked straight in to paradise with room 11 at the Big Fish Resort.
1000bht less a night - and a lot more spacious - and we had the best view of the whole bay whilst the gentle lapping of the waves beneath the balcony helped us to a great nights sleep. We ended us staying another 5 nights!
