Gorgeous location, very original architecture, and stunning views. Staff were excellent, very friendly, gracious and helpful. Very much focused on the guests having a great time. No beach but a nearly lovely, peaceful beach a short kayak away. Great diving set up, did a good dive just 10 minutes away....lots of fish life and pretty corals.

Different from most of the Resorts in Samui and Tao, Jamahkiri has unique attraction with it's style of luxury and comfortable. The hotel is not easy to access by road because it is built on a side of the cliff, but the hotel design is so beautiful and reminds me of Greek. We stayed in the hotel for two days and went nowhere else. It has breathtaking seaview from the room and poolside, great food and especially the smily staffs. In all, everything in Jamahkiri is worth to all the time, money and efforts we spent on getting there.

The hotel is nestled in an amazing location...in the middle of huge granite boulders overlooking sharks' bay....the architecture of the complex is incredible and in my view close to perfection. I can understand that for people with limited mobility it can be difficult to move around the different areas; also, for the very lazy travelers I would suggest a Club-Med style beach resort :)... leave Jamahkiri to us alone!
During our stay there were very few guests so we've been literally pampered by the wonderful staff, very skilled and friendly, 5* service not impersonal nor intrusive (the general manager deserves all the good comments). Additionally, every little detail in the hotel represents unpretentious luxury, from the reception welcome to the little goodbye gifts.
The Swimming pool is fantastic, the Spa is top notch and full of character, the restaurant very good and in my view not expensive at all given the quality of ingredients and size of the portions.
For nature lovers you can swim with reef sharks every morning before breakfast and we saw one swimming in the water from our balcony (also, we spotted a baby crocodile in the rocks)
Overall Jamahkiri is a magnificent place, and possible the most relaxed and relaxing 5* hotel I've ever stayed.
(PS we were supposted to stay 2 nights but we extended to 5...and not more only because we had to take our flight back home from Samui)

As per all reviews, great hotel in a great location. Even though yes, an improved way, at least may be for hiking, would be great, by now people should not complain about the location as they will have been warned by previous reviews that if you go there, it is rather to enjoy the stunning location and treat this as a retreat instead of wanting to move around. Plus there is easy access either by the boat shuttle offered by the hotel or snorkeling to the next beach, which is stunning. From the hotel you swim from the rocks (so do you from Eden Roc in Antibes). Hotel is indeed spotless. One may or may not like the room decoration in the new building which is not very island like. For a two or three night stay without having to move would highly recommend, as you indeed don't get bored with the view.

We stayed at the Jamahkiri for 5 nights on our honeymoon this month - we read the reviews on here about the roads to the resort but these were always outweighed by the glowing reviews about the hotel itself. The staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome and special, the room was amazing with views of the sea and we saw sharks every morning as promised! We received a spa package for our honeymoon which was lovely, the girls were so sweet and again went out of their way to give you a good service. The roads were absoulutely crazy, but do-able on a quad (£10 per day) with good brakes if you took it slowly; the locals tackle these roads with 3 on a normal scooter 2 of which are usually side-saddling! LUCKILY I had just married a previous-professional motorcyclist with experience in off-road bikes so our stay wasn't as 'restricted' as others had mentioned! If the prices of the food was more reasonable at the hotel and they provided 1 extra shuttle at around 9pm I think we may have been able to manage without a bike. We did enjoy our stay, it was so peaceful and luxurious - we just felt a little bit 'trapped' at times and we were lucky to have my husband to whisk us away into town!

we, two families stayed at the hotel just for one night and we soon made a decision to change the return boat ticket just to stay here longer! The hotel is great in its structure. Every level is a gorgeous view, with the blue sea as background. Everyone of us loved to go around to explore the beauty. Mom is not good at walking up and down the stairs but still she supported us to stay here longer.
We went to the other side of the bay to do snorkeling by a free ride by the hotel. It is fun! The other day we went kayaking. It is great when you are alone on the sea in a tranquility.
The food is delicate. All the time you are waiting is worthy when you see the dishes! But of course the price is bit higher (with 7% VAT).
Manager William was there to welcome us and say goodbye when we left. We are impressed by the uniformed good manners of all staff. They would stop and put hands in front to say SAWADEEDICA when meeting you on the way. Helpful and polite!!
Spa is also a good choice. Reasonable price with guest discount and most important, the whole environment is terrific! the sound of flowing water in the garden and the sea in the far end.
Recommend to couples, families who want to have a different experience in Koh Tao!

Room Tip: every room got a unique view of the sea. our two rooms are connecting to each other, which made it f...

we believed the positive reviews for this resort but were very disapointed .The fact is that most of the customers were backpackers staying in the new building (4 storeys concrete building) offering themself an extra ,I mean people who are not used to luxury standart.
We stay in a private bungalow ,nice but no private pool and with very difficult acces (dozen of stairs.
There is no private beach ,only a looklike children playground build at the shade of the ugly building.
The spa is average and more expensive than what we paid in Bangkok and Samui .
The restaurant is just overpriced for a "nothing special menu".Even the small local restaurant "eagle view" next to the resort was much better.
The diving is just double priced than the rest of the island with a very cheap equipment :the "T-one scubapro set" which is very basic ,but anyway diving was not available because them dive boat was under maintenance (in the high season ??)
The location of the hotel was not good too. The acces is so dangerous on a dirt track ,then it's almost impossible to visit the rest of the island .
We did regret a lot our resort in samui where for half of the price of Jamahkiri we got double.

Jamahkiriresort, General Manager at Jamahkiri Resort & Spa, responded to this review, 21 July 2011
Dear Sir/Madam,

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We regret that you did not bring your concerns to our attention during your stay, as we would have welcomed the opportunity to improve your opinion. We would like to address a few of your comments:

We are pleased to welcome clients from all walks of life, however by definition ‘backpackers’ are budget travellers staying in hostels and guesthouses, which doesn’t describe the majority of our clients.
You claim that we are expensive, but that most of our customers are backpackers, which doesn’t make much sense.

Our amenities are very well described on our website, and nowhere do we claim that we have private pools in our rooms. We do acknowledge that there are a number of stairs at the resort, as it is built on a hillside providing each and every room and pavilion with a beautiful view of the sea. Our resort is located on a tranquil bay 1km from the main road. Its location is a big part of its charm. The road is not suitable for all vehicles and drivers, but we do provided three free shuttles to and from the main town each day.

Our Diving Club was not closed at any time this year. We sometimes make recommendations to our clients based on weather conditions, but that is simply for the comfort and safety of our clients. We only use quality well-maintained diving equipment. The Scubapro T-one which you referred to is considered a very good entry level BCD which is preferred by many dive schools and diving professionals.

We are proud to be the first luxury hotel on Koh Tao, and we invest a great deal in upgrades every year.

Once again, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay.

Sincerely,
Jamahkiri Management Team.
