Nothing missing in this resort, but you can get nearly the same standard below the 1/2 price in 5-6 other resorts on the island. TOO EXPENSIVE !!. It`s a bit out in the bush, and the road is terrible !!! ( read: path). Perfect for a quiet stay, but if you are looking for something more, dont stay here. The food is good , but not cheap. A major problem is that most of the crew are impossible to communicate with, no one speaks english, french or german. If you order something it´s just to wait and see what you get !!. The location on the cliff overlooking shark bay is just stunning !!. Best on the island ?. We had a good stay here, but this is not a place you stay for weeks ( too quiet and "boring")

We stayed in Jamahkiri for 6 days, had a wonderful time!
Excellent service: manager William and staff are very kind, helpful and have a very personal approach. They make you feel welcome and at home, truly a boutique hotel. On arrival we noticed that the hotel made a little mistake in the allocation of our rooms, not really a big deal. But manager William wanted to make up for this mistake and did so by offering us a very generous upgrade. What a service!
Great restaurant with excellent food and fantastic views: The restaurant serves both Thai and European dishes and has a 3 course daily menu. Really good food! Because of the height and the open structure in the restaurant, you get air/wind from the sea which is nice and cooling. During one of our lunches, very bad weather approached which was spectacular to see! The windows were closed and we could enjoy our lunch while heavy rains struck the windows.
Beautiful and unique hotel complex: we did not like the 4 story hotelbuilding when seen from the sea. But from the premises you get a totally different impression. Then you see a beautiful and unique building, build around big boulders, which has been designed and build with lots of care for details. And what a spectacular views from the rooms, wow! The pavilions are even better than the rooms, so If you can afford it, book one of those, we think it's worth it. Surroundings are also beautiful and there are many area's where you can sit and relax with only a few people around. And yes there are many stairs: but, unless you are in poor health, whats wrong with walking some stairs, and having some exercise, before enjoying a beautiful breakfast buffet or dinner?
Amenities : beautiful pool, very clean and professional spa, nice sunset bar, fitness etc We did not use the dive shop. They offer private dive trips which are much more expensive than the groups dives offered bij dive shops in town. Jamahkiri does not have a large sandy beach, but there’s a sandy area near the sea with deck chairs. From there you can get into the water to go swimming or snorkling in the beautiful bay. Together with the nice pool, this was more than enough for us.
Location: Jamahkiri is situated outside of town and not easliy accesible because of the dirt road. But with the hotel shuttle 3 times a day and taxi service we had no problem getting to town for our daily dives. Taxis charge more to come to jamahkiri because of the bad road, but we considered that as part of the package.
After six days, we very sorry to have to leave this place.
Jamahkiri thanks for a wonderful stay !!!

Stunning is an understatement. Nothing short of fabulous; gorgeous views from the rooms, great rooftop bar with friendly bartender, delicious cuisine at the restaurant, awesome swimming pool, wonderful service, helpful staff at the marina and everything top notch. The stairs were unforgiving but all the above compensate for them.

Thanks to TripAdvisor and Agoda, we were lucky enough to find our way to Jamahkiri during our recent trip to Koh Tao. It is, without a doubt, the best hotel on the island. The setting simply could not be more beautiful: Jamahkiri is perched atop a cliff overlooking a spectacular bay with turquoise water, coral reefs, and a perfect white sand beach. On clear days the outlines of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and the craggy isles of Ang Thong Marine Park dot the horizon. It's simply breathtaking. The hotel is built into the side of the cliff with lots of winding stone steps and walkways twisting between huge boulders. It looks like something straight out of the Greek islands.

Jamahkiri has two types of rooms: the newer Deluxe Rooms, which are more of a traditional hotel style, and the older pavilions, which are cabana-style rooms built into the cliff. I highly recommend spending the extra money to stay in a pavilion. We tried both types of rooms during our stay and the pavilion took the beauty of Jamahkiri to a whole new level. The pavilions are absolutely charming with elegant decor and your own personal 180-degree views of the sea and neighboring bay. One of the most beautiful rooms we've ever stayed in, period!

Jamahkiri is set apart from the main town (Mae Haad) by a long, twisting, rocky dirt road. It's a mixed blessing for the hotel because while it makes it difficult to access Jamahkiri, I believe it has also ensured that this part of the island has remained quiet and relatively underdeveloped (unlike Mae Haad or Sairee Beach). One drawback of the hotel is that it's not easy to get to other restaurants, bars, etc. if you would like to, say, go someplace else to dine for an evening. However, the hotel recognizes this and does their best to help out by offering free taxi services to Mae Haad and Sairee three times a day. In addition, they have a free water taxi to the neighboring beach, where there are several restaurants.

Finally, perhaps the most outstanding part of this little gem of a hotel is its staff. They bent over backwards to ensure that our stay was top-notch. In particular, the manager, William, could not have been a kinder or more gracious host. My boyfriend lost his iPhone on Koh Tao on the day we left, and fortunately it was found by an island resident. William went way out of his way to help us get the phone back. He spent a good deal of time on the phone with my boyfriend and ultimately sent the phone to us on Koh Phangan, where we were staying after leaving Jamahkiri. I think a sign of a great hotel is when you leave feeling attached to the staff. This was certainly the case at Jamahkiri.

Overall, I highly recommend Jamahkiri. We will be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience, Jamahkiri!

Room Tip: Stay in one of the pavilions -- it's well worth the extra cost!

quite nice resort but overpriced for Thailand
we've stayed in some other resort witch offer the same service for half of the price of Jamahkiri
When we booked we thought it gonna be some thing really special because of the price but it was less than what you got in a 3 stars hotel in Europe.
The big problem was the location and no direct beach .You can be transfert to the next beach but that's not very convenient ,better to stay at the Haad tien resort on this beach.
The restaurant and the spa were average and overpriced too
This resort is not bat but doesn't deserve is rating

Gorgeous location, very original architecture, and stunning views. Staff were excellent, very friendly, gracious and helpful. Very much focused on the guests having a great time. No beach but a nearly lovely, peaceful beach a short kayak away. Great diving set up, did a good dive just 10 minutes away....lots of fish life and pretty corals.

Different from most of the Resorts in Samui and Tao, Jamahkiri has unique attraction with it's style of luxury and comfortable. The hotel is not easy to access by road because it is built on a side of the cliff, but the hotel design is so beautiful and reminds me of Greek. We stayed in the hotel for two days and went nowhere else. It has breathtaking seaview from the room and poolside, great food and especially the smily staffs. In all, everything in Jamahkiri is worth to all the time, money and efforts we spent on getting there.
