The Sensi Paradise resort was beyond amazing. We stayed five nights in an ocean view bungalow (#19) and it did not disappoint. While you must be prepared as this resort, while the nicest we viewed on the island of Ko Tao for those looking for a bungalow experience, is not a buttoned up, bleached down resort experience, you must be willing and prepared to share your experience with all creatures of the jungle. Walking the pathways around the resort you may see centipedes, however, that was never a problem in the room, or pool area at the hotel; the mosquitos are also of bird size as you are staying in a subtropical jungle essentially, so bring bug spray (we actually ended up buying bug spray with deet in it as the natural citronella that we brought was not helping).
The rooms are very well kept, very nice mosquito nets were provided in each room, the air-conditioning was a god sent and worked like a charm, the sounds of the jungle were enchanting and like nothing we had ever experienced. We had a large lizard friend in our bathroom, but he was harmless, and as far as we were concerned a welcome visitor to help with pest control, there was either lizard or bat droppings in front of our bedroom door on the deck every morning, but it was easily cleaned up, and a reminder of the jungle as if you could forget when you open your eyes and see this amazing view!
The pool was always very clean and extremely refreshing as the water was a touch cooler than the ocean at the time of year we went, when the sun was smoldering.
It is just a short walk down the path to the beach, and the resort has a nice area to lay out with both full sun and shade, the resort is very close to shopping and restaurants, however, it should be made clear that Ko Tao is a very quiet island, and you can easily fall into the fold of island life. Karma bar just down the beach was a total treat, with great service, great prices, and live music every night.
Renting a motor bike is the best way to get around the island, and you can rent through the resort for a very nominal fee per day, petrol is a bit expensive, but since the island is so small two gallons will last you a week or more.
The water taxi's we used were not through the hotel, but the taxi vendors just up the beach, and we were able to negotiate good prices to putt around the island and across to Ko Nanguan (highly recommended day trip!).
After Ko Tao we traveled to Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and then on to Phuket (Kata Beach). Ko Tao and our stay at Sensi Paradise were by far the best experience we had on our adventure through Thailand. Oh, and the breakfast buffet was actually one of the best that we experienced in Thailand as well, but don’t forget your bug spray in the morning as well.
All in all, Ko Tao and Sensi paradise is the perfect resort for those of you who are not afraid to see and experience life in the jungle with a five star (in context) twist, be prepared to not be able to flush toilet paper though as there is no sewer treatment anywhere on the island, and please limit the amount of plastic as they burn trash on the island. If you are looking for a more sterile resort experience, I would recommend you not travel north of Ko Samui or Phuket where they will be able to better provide that experience.
