Overall- the resort is only ok for the price you pay in high season. Decent rooms, good breakfast but long check-in. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic and athentic Thai place- this is definitely not the place. It reminds more a timeshare in Florida than a Thai hotel. Nothing wrong with it though. Our room was located good 10 minutes walk away from the reception on a very steep hill. Keep that in mind if you have any mobility problems.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed in Ban's for 4 nights in December. The room was free for each night that we stayed, as long as we dived. The rooms were pretty bog standard - toilet, sink, shower combo, balcony, limited furnishings, safe, comfy bed, noisy air-con (700 baht per night extra) but that didn't bother us.
The service was quite good, we were upgraded to an amazing room for our first night as they were fully booked. The front desk were friendly, maybe a little uninformed. The manager who sits on the left side of the desk, knew her stuff.
The diving instructors were super - Hannah, Ryan, and Santi. They were extremely helpful, friendly, fun and attentive. They were great at creating an enjoyable and happy group atmosphere. As it turned out, diving didn't agree with me on one of the days so I didn't get my PADI, however, Ryan was good enough to offer to take me out the next morning, one on one, at no extra cost, if I wished to do so. I didn't in the end but I was taken aback at his generous offer. The guys have a genuine and deep passion for diving and want students to take this away with them too.
The location was perfect, within a short walking distance to all the best beach restaurants and bars. The Fishbowl bar, connected to Bans had a party atmosphere, did great cocktails and the fireshows that people joined in with made for an entertaining evening.
A couple of negatives - the two advertised pools can't really be used by sunbathers at any time as they are constantly in use by people learning to dive. The restaurant food is ok but I wouldn't recommend, lunchtime is a little manic so avoid as it takes a long time for standard orders. Take a 5 minute walk in either direction to a street stall for some tastier, cheaper and faster food.
Overall, a great location, great instructors, well priced for back packers (dived in Ko Phangan a couple of days later and was FIVE times the cost). Would be a great place for anyone learning to dive.

Room Tip: Try and get one further away from the beach - i.e. further from the noise. Get an aircon room if you...

Firstly, we visited koh tao not having any rooms booked, we where travelling a lot. The reception staff were fantastic and could not have helped us more. We paid 2400 bahts and we're given a great room just off the resort with amazing views. We could have got cheaper rooms but they didn't look as nice. Breakfast was ok with a few choices but not spectacular. We visited the restaurant in each lonely plate had given it rave reviews. I was not blown away by it. The antipasto starter was good. Then the mains arrived after ordering steaks and being told they weren't available I opted for seafood risotto and my girlfriend, duck pad Thai, you could tell the pad Thai was ready well in advance of my risotto as when it arrived hers was cold and mine piping hot. Maybe the time didn't help it was fairly late on (around 9pm) we would stay again just not eat in the resort.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the 400's a short walk from the main resort but better views.

Very unfriendly and uninterested people. They do not look at you while talking. Also they do not follow their made promises. Quickly left after a conversation.

Please, go to a more friendly, smaller place as this nasty machine. There is many around, although they don't scream as much for attention as Ban's.

Hi,

we've stayed at Bans for 6 nights in Dezember 2013. We had such a good time that we extended our stay here.
If you want to go diving in Koh Tao, there is no other dive school/centre. First and last choice is Ban's.
We traveld in a group of three and got a nice, clean room. And the best during one of us did a course we even got a discount on the room.
So about our Stay here: Bans is a large Family and within a day everybody who comes here feels like a part of that family. Diving connects. The Staff in the office is helpful und very friendly. Whatever you need just ask and they will help you. If it is for Diving:
- Top Trained PADI Instructors
- Modern equipment ( BCD, Suits, Masks, ... )
- More then one Boat so they can go to different diving spots for different levels.

The best thing is : They provide courses in other languages then englisch. So If you are looking for a native speaking diving course this is your Adress ! And if you Compare the Price with other Diving Centres. Its affordable and they do have an ex student rate. That means if you did a certification with bans before you'll pay 700 THB for your next dives. Lifetime !
What we did is : we checked the German Page of Bans www.bansdiving.de and wrote a email in Advance so they could manage to get us some german Courses. ( 1x OWD / 1x AOWD ). If you write them in advance they can plan when courses start but its normally that there is a course staring every 2 days.
For German Speaking Divers Contact Alex Mitsch:
Alex kümmert sich um wirklich alles. Wenn es darum geht sich einen Roller zu mieten , wo man am besten essen gehen kann oder mit welcher Fähre man am besten weiter fahren soll, bzw. hat er Kontakte zu anderen Tauchbasen in Thailand.
Das beste ist aber die Kommunikation. Man hat bei Bans nie das Gefühl übern Tisch gezogen zu werden. Am besten einfach eine Email an : info@bansdiving.de . Wann/ Wer / Wie viele .

WE Enjoyed our time at Ban's and will come back ! FOR SURE !

Greetings to the all at Ban's ,
Jonas ;)

Iv stayed at bans many times and did my PADI advanced cert there. There has been a rapid decline over the 3 years iv been to Bans+ Koh Tau.As 1 of the biggest dive resorts in the world Bans attracts the best dive masters and instructers, thats the good news!.As the number of persons diving and learning to dive has increased,Bans has dropped heavily in its "quality control".Dive classes are crowded and too short, its become a production line rather than a "personal experience".The accommodation, restaurants and other facilities are no longer the effiscent clean, quality that they were once renowned for. This problem has hit all Sairee Beach where the hordes of "britbingers" and "rave/party idiots are now gathering in large tribes.
Koh Tau is still a wonderful island if you search elsewhere on the "peaceful/beautiful side.
May I suggest going to the gorgeous unspoilt Tanote Bay with its small bungalow resorts and the Calypso diving school. Its still the way this island used to be.PARADISE!

Room Tip: Stay away from the beach side rooms if you want to sleep before 2am.Dont rent a scooter/bike from th...

I don't like to complain but maybe this review could save people from future disappointment. I gave them 1 star, only because zero isn't an option.
The rooms were terrible, falsely advertising they're few nice ones and giving us an old dirty run down ant infested room. We complained, they look annoyed and told is it would be 5000baht to upgrade to the rooms we were originally shown.
They're equipment is old and run down, all the pull cords were torn off my BCD, goggle straps broken...
The place is a revolving door for diving tourists, they obviously only care about turning a profit. This place is garbage and I would highly advise going somewhere else...
Even if it was free I would never return.
