Lovely rustic hotel, beautiful paradise island

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Sept 2012
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in August and loved it - Koh Tao is also an island paradise and we are desperate to go back again for more diving. We stayed in one of the deluxe villas which are built into the hillside, and although not super-sleek-modern, the villa was clean, perfectly well-equipped and had a lovely rustic charm to it. The view out over the sea was spectacular and we enjoyed evenings on the front balcony listening to the sea, watching the sunset. Breakfast is served in their restaurant on the edge of the cliff and there was plenty of choice, from cooked breakfast, omelettes, fruit, cereal etc. A particular highlight was going to the hotel's private beach, Jansom Bay, where we could snorkel (no fins, as it kills the coral), swim out to the rafts, have a massage, climb over rocks, and relax on the sun-lougers with a book in one hand and a cocktail from the bar at the back of the beach in the other. Only word of warning, is that as this resort is built into a steep hillside, I would not recommend this for anyone with mobility issues - it is quite a steep climb up to reception and down to Jansom Bay - although it was a perfect way to work off a big breakfast on the way to a day relaxing on the beach!

I have just come back from a week at Charm Churee staying in a beach front bungalow. It was not long enough! This place is a piece of paradise. There is no need to go on snorkeling tours around the island as it is all available on the doorstep in Jansom Bay. The view from the breakfast bar every morning is one I will not forget. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and quick to attend to any query. The only negative was a glitch at check-out and this took 40mins to fix, leaving us somewhat frazzled to depart on time, and which could be easily rectified by using computer forms - most of the delay was from manually checking the calculation for payment due. Also our bags hadn't been delivered back to reception by check-out time as requested. However this did not detract from the overall experience so still 5 stars from me. Would I stay here again - definitely yes. Would I recommend to friends and family - definitely yes. I have stayed at many hotels and resorts around the world and this one stands out for charm, beauty, scenery, relaxation, swimming, snorkeling, etc It was also good value and not too busy as in off peak season. Oh, and don't forget the spa - great massage and treatments.

I have never stayed at a better resort. Brilliant service, comfort, facilities and the best snorkeling beach on the island. The dive staff went way out of their way to help us enjoy all that the island can offer. They helped us several times while off duty and were excellent and skilled trainers when we chose to learn scuba. Food is delicious and the views breath taking. Quite hilly so try to get a beach front room, bring good walking sandals and prepare for lots of walking. The day spa was very very good- $75 au for a 3.5 hr pamper package- great value! All staff smiley and welcoming. Can't wait to come back!

We arrived at Koh Toa for our last 3 days of our pre-honeymoon. It was a huge dissapointment. The resort is a mess, pipelines run thru the resort. Front Desk staff is or not capable or totally not empowered by management. We booked an eco-room (do not book this roomtype), which was a small and dark room. We asked for another room and were shown the managers room??! All his stuff was still in the room... On our last night we received an upgrade to a beachcottage. These are nice but still very small and not worth the money.

The diveshop is great and Aa the bellman is a real hospitality guy as well!

After having read many reviews both positive and negative about Charm Churee I was somewhat apprehensive about our stay there. I really enjoyed our stay there! The staff are extremely helpful and attentived to your needs. It is rustic ...... But that is the charm and the appeal of the place. There is no getting past the steep paths and the stairs so if you are seriously unfit, overweight you may struggle somewhat.

Overall I would highly recommend Charm Churee Villas to anybody looking for a little piece of paradise away from the hustle and bustle of life. It is a great place to lie back and chill out and relax!
