Thankfully, the hotel made an error with out booking, and we got upgraded from the panorama room to the hilltop villa, which was wonderful. It had a totally amazing view of Jansom Bay, the private bay of Charm Churee. I thought the beach at Jansom Bay was a beautiful beach, contrary to some of the opinions mentioned before.

The restaurant, we thought, was very good, and the quality of the dishes left nothing to be desired. Charm Churee makes good use of its natural setting, and I can recommend the hilltop villa with direct view of Jansom Bay - it is maybe the best view on Koh Tao, and we stayed in several different places on the island.

We did not mind it so much, but it is worth mentioning that there are a lot of stairs to navigate on your way to the beach, to the restaurant, to reception... basically to everywhere on the resort. The resort is interconnected with a lot of winding, up and down paths, so if this would bother you, it is worth considering. But we did not mind it, and all in all, our stay in the Charm Churee Villa was a fantastic time.

It's a nice hotel at Jansom bay. It has a nice concept. Villas are very clean and service is very good. But, you have to climb to restaurant and reception if your villa is close to sea. Additionally, Jansom Bay is not one of the best beaches of Koh Tao.

Jansom Bay is a great location and it is very convenient to snorkel off the beach. A lot of marine life and decent coral on the reefs. Need booties or you can get cut really badly. The dive center is great and its convenient to dive off the beach.
As for the hotel, it seems that the owners use the excuse of conservation for purely cost cutting purposes. Our Toilet shower leaked for the entire 7 nights we were there and even after several complaints nothing was done about it, in spite of posters in bathrooms asking guests to conserve water. The villa was shabby and the floor smelled like dead fish. There was water seeping from the floor and the staff could not figure out the problem. Therefore we slept in a smelly room for 3 nights. Also the phones did not work in the rooms. The restaurant is over priced and the food is very average. Breakfast as posted in other reviews was very tasteless, The staff really did not care about service and never had a smile on their faces. Lack of training was apparent for the staff in general.
Overall, an overpriced resort. We stayed in another resort for less money and much better facilities for 5 additional nights after checking out from here.

Dear TravelIHKarachi,

Thank you for your review and for complimenting Nature. First and foremost, we cannot stop you from wearing boots into the sea with a lot of corals. But please be careful and not stepping on them. As we have provided the life jacket and bamboo rafts for floating so please do not touch the coral. They are in very vulnerable stage as is with the global warming and coral bleaching everywhere in the world it is crucial not to destroy them.

As we found your review valuable, we are perplexed of your assertion "it seems that the owners use the excuse of conservation for purely cost cutting purposes," could you please be so kind as to elaborate on that? For as far as we know, most of the "extra" works for the environment costs more, especially on a small remote island where everything is more expensive than on mainland.

About your toilet hose, it had been fixed since the day after you reported it. Maybe you haven't noticed because there was still water in the bathroom. We are sorry that you might have not been listening that the water was from an uncontrollable source, the rain.

We are sorry that for almost all week that you stayed with us, there was a lot of rain and very little sunshine. And staying in those rooms with outdoor shower can be irritated by the rain and without the sun, it sometimes smells.

Our housekeepers had been trying to clean up the leaves that clog the waterway but for that kind of rain, the effort may seem too little. But they tried. Maybe they can't communicate well with you at the time being.

About the phone, since there are a lot of rain and thunder in the period of your stay, our telephone system was affected by the lightening which took a couple of days to fix. For that, we apologise.

About the food, we think this depends more on a personal taste. We are sorry to not being able to serve the food to everyone's liking. However, we try to maintain our authentic traditional Thai cuisine even if it may not taste like the ones you have elsewhere. Even though, we are highly praised in the Thai community for that.

About the staff that never had a smile on their faces, we found that absurd and highly unlikely, if not impossible. All in all, it is very easy and convenient to point the finger and make generalised assumptions about something that does not reflect the truth. Stay with a problem longer and look deeper into it. And you will see that there are more than just opinions about it.

Last but not least, our sincere condolences for the natural disaster in Pakistan.

First of all, we loved the location and the two beaches. The Jansom beach has a great little coralreef and we loved snorkeling there. The diving school is also great and we enjoyed a few 'fundives'. On the downside: there is no swimming pool, some of the rooms are a bit outdated and noisy, it's pricy and the service is not so great. We travelled with three teenage sons who were housed very far away from us, first time that happened to us in Thailand. Secondly, don't use the reception to rent a bike, they will have you transported to a shop very far away which is hard to find when you have to return the bike. The quality of the breakfast was not great: lots to choose from but nothing really tasty. Next time we go to Koh Tao we will be staying somewhere else.

The Charm Churee Villa is located in a steep, stony jungle with amazing views of the sea. The resort has everything you need; a great restaurant with an excellent selection of food, a spa on a cliff nenxt to the sea, a small and private beach with great snorkelling, panorama bungalows with large windows, and so on... The main "town" is a short walk away and has shops, restaurants and bars for the ones who are not satisfied with the quiet resort life. All this does of course have a cost, and the prices are definitely higher than average. But my opinion is that is was worth it! If you are looking for a dive vacation, there is a dive shop at the resort that shares boats with other dive shops. But for a oure diving vacation, my impression is that there are better places to stay.
