“view of the bay is amazing!”
Reviewed 16 October 2010

we stayed at the charm churee in july and really enjoyed it. our view from our bungalow was amazing...it felt like we were in the jungle and we could see the ocean from our room. the beach is small but quiet and calm and great for families. we actually had the best scuba diving/snorkeling in jansom bay right off the hotel beach rather than on the other side of the island. the resort is very hilly so plan to walk up and down hills several times a day to get to and from the beach, etc. the resort restaurant is good but pretty expensive. we found some great food that was much more affordable in town which is just a walk away. we would totally go back and stay here again. when we left, we wished we didn't have to leave.

It has taken me forever to write this review as I didn't want to be negative but have finally decided that when one doesn't have a very good time it should be said.

We arrived at this resort down a long bumpy track in the back of a pick up, sounds promising. The check in was fine but the reception area was rather sad looking. The bungalows are dotted all over the resort and you have to constantly walk up and down pathways to get anywhere. We came across a snake on the path down to the beach, I have a real phobia so that was a bad start. The beach is OK but unfortunately nobody had previously stated on Trip Advisor that it is in the shade practically the entire day in winter - this just blew it for us - we came to relax, sunbathe and soak up the sun which we simply couldn't do in the shade.

The setting of the restaurant was lovely, food average and the breakfast area was very ordinary. The service was pretty bad, had to wait at least half an hour for a sandwich in our room. We ended up leaving early and going back to Koh Samui to a much nicer hotel.

Thank you so much for your review. Seemed like the major issue is the shades in Jansom Bay, we are sorry but we can't cut down all the trees for you to enjoy the sun. There are so many spots where you can sunbathe, in most of your rooms where there is a large balcony with sunloungers. Or if you want to walk a bit, there are several beaches that belong to us, Sai Nuan Beach for example.

it is a very unique resort being on the side of a cliff/hill with a small bay at the bottom. The snorkelling was fantastic there and we were happy with our room and the resort in general. Food was fine but nothing spectacular and the breakfasts had a good range of food. We found the staff friendly and helpful and had no issues at all there. The only downer is that if you have bad knees or are very unfit this is not the place for you. It is on a very steep hill so there are steps to the beach, restaurant and reception. My husband struggled a bit as he is having knee surgery in a couple of weeks but he coped OK.

The room had a balcony overlooking the beach (at the end of the second part of the balcony) but it was obscured a fair bit by trees etc. No problems with that though as we weren't expecting an actual beach view. Lovely view of the ocean though and the trees etc though. We had an outdoor shower which was a bit of a novelty, as well as an indoor one plus separate toilet. Air-con was very effective and kept us lovely and cool when we were in the room.

There were some ants and a few bugs but when you look at the location, that is to be expected. I have seen some reviews where people were "horrified" by ants etc and really if you want a very sterile 5 star environment then this isn't the place for you. I like my creature comforts and I was fine so for most people a few bugs will not be an issue. There are a lot of mosquitos at dusk so a good repellant is a must but we didn't get too many bites between us.

One of the main reasons we went to Koh Tao was for our daughter to do some snorkelling and it didn't disappoint. As soon as you walked into the water you were surrounded, it was a fantastic experience. We have a good underwater camera and got some fabulous shots.

Charm Churee is a little isolated and isn't the place if you want to party and head out to bars etc. It is about 10-15 minutes walk to Mae Haad and Whitening restaurant and there are a few restaurants around but definitely not nightlife.

Overall we thought that it was a really nice place to stay if you are looking for something a little different from the norm.

What a surprise this place was. After a bumpy 'taxi' ride we had a steep walk to a delightful bungalow. A delightful four poster bed looked Onto an enclosed balcony with a well stocked bar fridge and finally an open balcony overlooking palm trees and the ocean. If this wasn't enough the restaurant with it's stunning ocean views served some of the nicest Thai food we have ever had. Finally the service was friendly and first class particularly from waiters Oo and Ton: we loved it!!

We visited Ko Tao on our honeymoon and staying in Charm Churee Villas for 10 nights. We alighted the ferry on a very hot day, flustered and tired. We were met at the reception by a member of staff handing out ice cold orange juice and cold towels. It was a godsend and a lovely touch to what turned out to be an amazing stay.
The villa was very nice and the sunset balcony was amazing. Hearing the sea gently lapping up at night was very romantic. The private beach was lovely and having the bar 20 yards away just made the experience complete.
Charm Churee Villa is a self professed eco-resort and it proved to be such. Those wanting unrivalled luxury and all the trappings of 5 star holidays should perhaps not come to CCV. Those wanting an amazing stay, at one with beautiful surroundings and excellent service should definitely consider CCV.
What CCV offers is something that other places do not. I can honestly say I have not been to a resort before where I received such wonderful service, met such genuinely nice and friendly staff and lived in such luxury but also felt like it wasn't costing the earth both in money and environment.
Thoroughly recommended for a great stay. We want to go again as soon as possible!

The hotel is beautifully located on a pristine beach with excellent snorkeling. But that is all it has to offer. The beach villa we stayed in needs some renovation. The reception and housekeeping staff was not very friendly and looked overworked and hassled whenever we went to ask for something. Most of the time our rooms were not made up till 4 pm in the evening and we had to keep asking for housekeeping to make up our room. But our waiter Ton was very friendly and helped us whenever we needed anything. The restaurant has a beautiful location but I wish the food was a little more tasty.

A fairly expensive hotel compared to the facilities it gives. However it has great potential if it is run a bit more professionally.

Its nicer to stay at a great resort nearby and then paid 200 Baht to use the beach at Jansom Bay.

Don`t bother with this place-stay in the resort beside it, Sensi Paradise, instead.
This resort is far too hilly and inconvenient to be really enjoyable-the only real plus point it has is the beach where there is good snorkelling very close to shore.
Despite the restaurant having an excellent location, the food is bland and unremarkable. The staff look overworked and the only plus point of our stay was our friendly waiter, Tom who told us about a few interesting places to visit on the island.
After a dispute over a snorkel on our final day (yes, a snorkel) I will never return here.Just as we were about to check-out, one of the dive guys came to our room saying we had returned the wrong snorkel set. When I questioned how he knew it was the wrong set as there were no markings etc, he said that Charm Churee snorkels are of the best quality, which was ironic considering the previous 2 he had given us had to be returned as one broke while the other let in water.
Once he left, we were summoned to the reception. In the 5 minutes of a discussion, I was called a liar by the dive shop guy, and the receptionist seemed to think it was only fair that I pay for a new snorkel. Needless to say I refused.
Charm Churee was our last hotel to stay in while in Thailand and we really thought it would be the best.
We were very disappointed.
