“Perfect for us”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2013

We (my boyfriend and I) stayed here after trying to find a nice but cheap beach bungalow (a struggle on Ko Tao). We only had two nights here and would recommend it highly (unless you are looking for 5* luxury). We had a 600baht per night bungalow with a fan, it was basic but clean with a very comfortable bed, which is excellent value considering some of the more expensive but grim bungalows we looked at elsewhere. The food was acceptable and service was good. Family run who where helpful and relaxed.

We had a great stay! Tanote Bay was a perfect place to be- quiet, great snorkelling, good food, off the beaten track. The Diamond beach Bungalows had good value for money accommodation and friendly staff. Out of all the places we stayed in Thailand this was the place we never wanted to leave!

We would definitely recommend it!

Diamond Beach Bungalows is an amazing wonderful place to stay especially if you want to snorkel at Tanote Bay. The food and service was very good, no need to go anywhere else. They had a shuttle service 100 Bahts per person to main town 3 or 4 times a day as you are pretty isolated in the bay, no real nightlife at all but we were just there for the snorkeling. Only negative thing about this place was unable to count on their wifi, it was very poor and they turn it off at night. Otherwise if this does not matter to you you will enjoy your stay here.

Room Tip: #16 was the best Beachfront bungalow

We were impressed with the design of the bungalows.

Perched on a slope, the room we had was almost circular and spacious. The bed was placed on a raised platform, and there were windows all around. There was plenty of light, and good air circulation. Even though we did not have air-condition, the room was cool compared to the heat in our room at Sairee Beach.

The landscape of Tanote Bay is beautiful and the area is quiet. However, the water is quite polluted with garbage and the sand is definitely not as smooth as Sairee Beach.

Tanote Bay is a very quiet part of Koh Tao and Diamond Beach Bungalows is no exception. We stayed a week in one of their bigger bungalows, for 800B a night. No aircon, but a good fan, a nice patio, a very big shower and a beautifull sea view. They serve good food for a very reasonable price and offer a fairpriced taxiservice to get you to and from Mae Haad. It is a rocky road, but a very beautifull drive!
Tanote Bay is one of the places on Koh Tao where you can snorkel right of the beach. The beach is nice and quiet, no salespeople or other hustlers will bother you. There are two diving schools at Tanote Bay. Enjoy!

Beautiful, secluded beach and really nice basic huts for only 500 THB per night. No luxury, but clean and a good fan- all you need. We ended up staying at Diamond for 11 days; we got stuck :-) The people running the place were very friendly and helpful. We traveled with our 3-year old daughter and Ao Tanote was a great place for children. Just remember to bring mosquito spray and your own mosquito net; the nets on the hut windows are not tight.

When our daughter fell asleep at night we could sit outside our hut with a cold beer just listening to the sea.

We were impressed with Diamond Beach Bungalows, from the first time we phoned them and heard Nin's friendly demeanor to the last time they waved goodbye to us at the end of our 4-day stay.

First, however, I must mention the terrible road conditions. The road is not for the faint of heart, as it is rutted and slippery and I
thought we were going to be the next headline back home, "Two Killed in Thailand!" But we made it and lots of other people did too.

The beach, Tanote Bay, is truly isolated, reached only by the road or by boat. Because of this, the food your bungalow operation serves is probably what you will be eating for the duration. We were happy to discover the food at Diamond Beach Bungalows is the best on the beach and cheap too. We stuffed ourselves silly with plate after plate of Thai food served by the friendly gentleman from Cambodia. We ate basil chicken, red curry chicken (the best!), fried rice with pineapple and chicken, laap chicken, penang chicken, phad thai chicken, watermelon shakes galore, everything was delicous.

Our bungalow was a new, beachfront, neon-green, tile-floored,
floor-to-ceiling windowed hut, with a bathroom and a shower, and a porch and a hammock, and it was 1000B, in early January (the high season). It wasn't luxurious by any means, but it was very clean and new.

The beach has loads of shells to pick up and wonder at and investigate. There are also a couple of streams and large boulders to clamber upon and spy crabs and whatnot. I think the beach "sand" is a bit sharp for walking barefoot on, however.

The only thing bad that happened (and it turned out okay) was that Diamond Beach Bungalows lost our laundry! A whole load went missing. Unfortunately, that one load had all but one pair of my boyfriend's undershorts which were these special mesh travel shorts purchased for the occasion (at $25/pair). However, the bungalow owner offered to pay for the laundry. So we spent some time figuring out how much we paid for the items, and how much they would cost in Thailand to replace (if we could
find them) and we tried our best to factor in the difference between our incomes and theirs, and came to a figure, which was much, much less than it would have been had we been in the West, and the bungalow owner agreed to pay it - about $80. Ouch.

We wanted to write a review and say that if anyone goes to Koh Tao, Ao Tanote (Tanote Bay) check out Diamond Beach Bungalows - they have delicious food and they're responsible and honest.
