“Great experience”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

I recommend taking a two day training course, as you get enough experience of the place without staying too long. Three days is good too I guess, as you get to familiarise with your elephant even more. The place is quite easily reachable from Lampang or Chiang Mai, although it's on a highway so you will need a private car or will need to ask the bus to drop you there.
Accommodation is pretty basic, but it's part of the experience. We left a large tip to the guy who was coordinating the work but I kind of regret, as it didn't seem to be much appreciated.

“Great Thai Center, excellent care of animals”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

In our tour through Northern Thailand our group stopped at both the elephant hospital and the elephant conservation center. It should be noted that they are not affiliated with one another. The hospital's sole purpose is the treatment and care of sick and injured elephants. I didn't see a separate place to comment, so in general the hospital is good to go to support and get close to a few elephants, but shouldn't take that long to visit.

The elephant conservation center was more of the touristy version. There were shows, rides, feedings, an elephant dung paper factory and various shops and eateries. The grounds seemed pretty nice. Not on par with Disney or Sea World in the US, but clean, well decorated and nice open pens for the elephants. The show was funny and entertaining. The announcer's English phrasing and how he switched back and forth to Thai was quite humorous. It was neat to see some of the logging skills that the elephants had. Our guide told us that logging with elephants is now illegal so conservation centers and the like are pretty much their "job" now.

After the show we went for a ride. It was interesting, but very loping and not super comfortable with how hot it was. It was an interesting experience, but I don't know if I'd jump at another chance. After eating at the restaurant (which was pretty good) we wondered around a little bit more and then headed out. Overall an interesting day and I'm guessing one of the better places to go.

“Great conservation effort”

Unlike some other Elephant centers, this one is more geared towards the Elephants well being and less of a show.

“A great way to see elephants and get close”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

The park is quite big and buses are provided to help get around. The hospital seemd full of rescued elephants and there were quite a few baby elephants to see as well.
The elephant washing is fun especially if Thai school kids are present. And the elephant show is nicely presented without being overdone.
Thanks to a helpful employee we got to make our own elephant dung paper.
Highly recommended.

Best 3 days of my life! Such a magnificent place where elephants and their mahouts live in harmony educating the public about the welfare of elephants. We did the 3 day VIP course and enjoyed every minute of it. Didn't want to leave. Will be returning some day soon...............
