“Diving in the islands”

Did a two day live aboard. Great diving, good food and fun. Lots of people but it is a good spot - do at least a one night stay over as it is a long way there and back for a day trip.

“Go there! And select company wisely!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2014 via mobile

Me and My girl were in khao lak and decided to go on a day trip to the similan islands to snorkel as it's rumored to have good snorkeling.

We asked at several travel agencies and all of them were ridiculously overpriced I mean ridiculously. Ranging 3400B to a whopping 5600B per person depending on company... This sounded really overkill so we decided to get out of dodge and head to the main pier and snoop around. When there we talked to a guy who owned a kiosk at the pier and he had the same trip for 1800-2000B "thaplamu andaman tours"

We were skeptical as it was cheaper.. We didn't want it to be a dodgy company...
It was still costly but nowhere near the other companies prices!! So we decided to give it a shot and boy were we glad we did.

Best visibility I have ever experienced while snorkeling/diving
45+ Meters,
The water was so clear it was a joke.

Not much fish to see but bigger ones are easily spotable due to visibility.

Definitely worth it!

The tour guides were really friendly and I was really surprised. Thaplamu andaman tours was really professional and good serviced. I can't imagine how much better the more expensive companies can get? I mean with thaplamu I could do the snorkeling and overnight in tent cheaper than the snorkel only of the competition.. Where is the logic and why wasn't this tour available at the travel agencies in town?

If you plan on doing a trip to similan don't go for the companies that rip you off! Snoop around first :)

Awesome trip!
Kudos thaplamu!

-Boats weren't overcrowded
-They had insurance
-Very informative
-Great cookie snacks :) = yum yum in my tum :P

Beautiful clear water - must go snorkeling there! Gets busy though so try and figure out when holiday "changeover days are" (sunday / monday) and go then.

Terrible kept us waiting on pier for ages first there last to leave ! Camp tour guides who liked the sound of their own voices too much mincing about like queens, food terrible coral dead and forty boats at once on beach all with loud music blaring out, kept waiting on return to pier while a shambolic PA system tried to organise taxis back to resort also done by camp tour guide who wouldn't shut up
