Ideally located for Sukhothai National Park

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Jan 2013
We spent 2 nights there having read other reviews on TA.

It's very close to the National Park but in a very quiet area. We were on a rented motorbike so it was very easy for us to travel in to the small town in the evening for food - if you don't have your own transport you might want to rent bicycles from the owners as its a little too far to walk in the evening to find restaurants, although you can eat on site if you wish (we didn't so I can't comment on their evening meal selection).

The 2 daughters speak English so there were no language difficulties. We stayed in 'SweetHome' bungalow which was more than adequate for us. Although small it was spotlessly clean and had air con, ensuite bathroom, fresh bed sheets and towels and a fridge with complimentary water.

We took advantage of their laundry service while we we there - our clothes came back spotlessly clean, smelling very fresh and they had been ironed although we had told them there was no need.

Breakfast wasn't great but adequate - you eat outside (in January it's very 'fresh' first thing in the morning!) which means crockery/cutlery is outside and very cold. There was a choice of Thai rice or noodle soup, fried eggs (which were left out so were cold), small sausages/ham (again cold)' toast and melon. Nescafé coffee is in sachets with powdered milk sachets instead of milk. To be honest we wished we'd eaten in town.

If I was to revisit Sukhothai I would stay at the resort again, but on a room only basis.

We stayed here during the first week of December 2011. This place is run by an extremely friendly family consisting of the young sisters Kook and Keek and their parents. Although not much English is spoken by them this is absolutely no problem at all. Somehow we always got understood without too many difficulties. They will do everything to make your stay a pleasant one and will help you with hiring bikes, motor bikes and your onward travel.

The location is absolutely excellent. You have got the feeling you are in the middle of nowhere as you are right in the middle of some agricultural fields but the entrance of the historical park is only about 5 minutes away on a bicycle which they can supply for you. Near the park entrance are lots of shops and restaurants so although you are in the middle of nature you are not isolated at all.

There are about 6 bungalows which are well equipped with air-conditioning, television and a fridge. Everyday there were 2 new bottles of free mineral water. The room was very clean and cleaned every day. The shower was nice and hot. We stayed for three nights and got every morning an included breakfast with freshly made toast, omelettes or fired eggs with sausages and jam and butter. It also included fresh orange juice and plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

The free internet connection wasn’t extremely fast but it was constantly up without any cuts and we could research and book hotels in our next destinations on the internet without any problems.

I recommend this hotel for everyone who wants to be away from the noise and look for some rest without being totally isolated or depending on expensive taxi services. We didn’t spend any money on taxis at all as they provided the bicycles, motorbikes and bus tickets. On the day we left they took us in their own car to the bus station again at no extra cost.

Kook and Keek thank you so much for everything you did for us. We stayed in total for one month in Thailand and stayed in lots of nice other hotels but the place were we felt most welcome was yours.

We booked sweet home via agoda but then we upgraded to family room (as we were 3 people to share the same room). We initially booked one night but then we wanted to stay one more night in Sukhothai so we changed to two sweet home rooms on the second night (the family room was no more available).

Rooms: Having tried all the room types, all I can say that the pictures on their website do 100% justice to the condition of the rooms: spotless clean, maintained very well and designed with a good taste, all the rooms have A/C. We used an extra bed in the family room in the first night, I think that's something they can improve by using two layers of mattress instead of one.

Location: The resort is located in a reserved place 5-10 minutes ride away from the Sukhothai historical park with a bike. That's not a problem really, because I would recommend anyone to rent a bike in Sukhothai anyway to explore the historical park and the old town. There are other guest houses right opposite to the historical park but I would definetely prefer Baan Rim Klong resort for the easy access they provide to the old city having bikes available as well as the quietness of the resort at night. In the old Sukhothai center, there is a place which constantly airs VERY loud music around (something you can hear km's away; so the location of Baan Rim Klong resort was perfect to enjoy a good nights sleep not being disturbed by the noise of the old sukhothai center)

Restaurant: There is a small area where the breakfast is served. The menu offers a few basic dishes and the food is served whenever you ask. We dined often in one of the restaurants in the old Sukthothai as it was more convenient after a touristic visit to the historical park. But I can also say that we ate lunch after our long bus trip from Chiang Mai, so it was great to have something available in the resort just when we needed it!

The staff: The staff are helpful. All our wishes were fulfilled.

Points for improvement that I can suggest: the level of English of the staff could be better. The internet didn't work as there as no signal.

Conclusion: I would definetely recommend this resort to anybody who seeks an excellent value for their money! I would definetely stay in this resort without looking for any other accomodation in old Sukhothai!

Room tip: All the rooms do 100% justice to the pictures in the website of the resort and all are perfectly fine. If you are travelling with 3 people, I would recommend to book two sweet home room type instead of getting one family room with an extra bed if you don't mind the price difference (we paid 950 baht for the family room + 200 baht extra for the extra bed for the family room in the first night of our stay. In the second night, we rented two sweet home for 750*2 baht)
