We were part of tour group travelling around Uzbekistan. This hotel is tucked away about 10 mins from the centre. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable and what you would expect. Breakfast is ok and again typical. I enjoyed the walk into town as so many kids and families say hello and want to practice their English!

This is a small, family-run guesthouse - the people are very nice and one of the daughters speaks good English. There is a courtyard with divans for relaxing, and a simple breakfast is served in a beautifully decorated traditional room. It is about a 15-minute walk to the centre of town; however, I did not find this a disadvantage, as it was interesting to walk through the little lanes, in a friendly, residential district - it felt very safe, even for a solo female after dark (just remember your torch!).

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group, so I can’t comment on price/value. This is a small, family-run hotel. Our room (#8) was of good size and clean. There were twin beds, an open-faced wardrobe, a table, two chairs and a refrigerator. There was a nightstand beside each bed but only one of them had a light. There was a small TV but no English channels. The air conditioning worked well. The bathroom was also of good size and had a tub/shower combination. There was adequate hot water once we had them turn it on, although sometimes the water pressure was low. The sink had little room for items and lighting was inadequate for shaving. Wifi is available for 2000 Som per hour. The hotel is on a quiet street. Its big disadvantage is that it’s quite a distance from the center of town in a residential area and would be difficult to find on your own. Since we were with a tour group, this wasn’t a major problem as some of the time we arrived/departed by bus and the rest of the time our tour leader or local guide walked with us or went with members of our group in a taxi. At night you need a flashlight and a good map to walk to/from town, as the streets are unpaved, narrow and dark. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk into town. There is a small shop nearby where you can buy water and sodas but not much else (turn right out of the hotel, then turn right at the first street; the shop is near the end of the street). Larger shops are further away and inconvenient to get to. Breakfast was satisfactory with cold items and cooked eggs.

Family run place in a delightful restored older style home. Room was comfortable and clean and slept well for the two nights on a group tour. Breakfast was limited and served from kitchen near to the eating room and just about acceptable and served in an impressively decorated large room which was a delight to look at. Local people were friendly and welcoming. Good place to stay at and different from hotels.

A small 13 room hotel located in a neighborhood and blended in with some of the other buildings but with directions you could walk back from the local site to see. The air conditioning worked well and was needed during the hot summer. Breakfast was included and the staff was friendly.

The Hotel Mosque Baland was such a pleasant change from some of the faceless Soviet-style hotels you find in Uzbekistan. It is genuinely family-run and the two children (at the older end of teenage) speak good English. All family members are very helpful and the courtyard setting with huge carpeted 'beds' in the middle for relaxing on is very pleasant. The rooms are basic, but clean and air-conditioned, and they can provide all the services you expect like changing money and safety deposit for valuables. The hotel is set in a residential district, so the 10 or 15 minute walk into the historical centre of town is through interesting scenes of daily life.
