An 8 room hotel centred around a small, pretty courtyard, the Minzifa was a pleasant surprise amongst some mediocre accommodation experiences in Central Asia. It is reminiscent of a riad in Marrakesh. The hotel is conveniently located in the old Jewish quarter close to many of the city sights.
The bedroom decor and furniture were in local style with a high, carved wood ceiling and carpeted floor. The beds were wide and firm, there was an excellent reading light, effective air conditioning despite the intense heat of summer and a multi-station satellite tv and radio. Just two shortcomings - there were many niches for storage and a coat rack for hanging clothes but otherwise no storage space. Also there was not even a small fridge in which to keep water cool.
The bathroom was fully tiled, fully functional with hair drier, soap, shampoo etc.
The food was of a high standard. Breakfast, served outside on a 'supa' or at a table, comprised fresh hot and cold delicious dishes. Dinner must be ordered in advance and is available at a house a few hundred yards away, served on the roof of an old house.
Internet access - narrowband as elsewhere in the country - is available from the friendly staff in the hotel office at $1 an hour.
As elsewhere in the city, cash is the only form of payment.
