“Old and worn but really nice”
Reviewed 21 February 2013

We came here without knowing no more about Vung Tao or Rex hotel, than what LP and RG has to say, but we were quite surprised. Yes it is an old hotel and it shows signs of tear and wear, but rooms are large, beds are good, pool is great and thewiew from 5-8 floor is fantastic. Breakfast left little to desire, Minibar is cheap and especially bellmen and nighttime bartender are really nice folks. Hotel is close to shops, parks and the beachfront. Other reviews talked about sexy girls working the pool area but that wasn't the case when we were there. The bar overlooking the pool do have some girls, who probably are suposed to attract male costumers, but the bar isn't part of the hotel and the girls stayed in the bar area.

Room Tip: Get a room on floors 6-8

Was recommended this hotel from family friends - was not disappointed nor over the moon about it. Time travelled back to Soviet Russia - engraved in my mind is the prison looking hallways mixing metal nets and cement looking paint in the corridors leading to the rooms. Rooms were large yet dated : bathrooms had dark spots in shower corners, leaking out of the basin. Had several surprise visitors to our rooms aka lizards which the hotel staff had a hard time locating - twice in one night - we were finally allowed to switch rooms. Best feature are the great views onto the sea, great location in between town and city, and the pool - people came from outside the hotel to use it so it means a lot. Breakfast choice good. Upon arriving there were some construction work right next to the pool area though so couldn't really relax. Recommend restaurant right behind the hotel : a French bistro run by a southern French man which catered for my moms very strict food requirements - so a+ for that.

Room Tip: We were three in one room - good sized.

A nice hotel , well situated on the front beach, our room over looked the sea
nice rooms, but this hotel could do with a refurb as it looks and feels out of date by about 30 years
staff pleasant, and rooms clean , it a good value for money hotel though
mike and jan

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room , and tell them you will not pay extra for it

As we were there as part of an Army reunion, our stay of three nights was too short - we would happpily have stayed longer. Our room was very comfortable with a view of the swimming pool area which is beautiful with gardens and statues around the actual pool. We had an in room safe in the room. The laundry service was very prompt and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good and you had the option to eat it in one of the two restaurant areas of al fresco around the swimming pool. It is oocated close to the forshore.

This is an older hotel but still in good condition . My room was a good size and very clean . Bathroom older style but functional and clean . Breakfast was the same as most hotels and included in the price . Fills you up . There is a nice pool but the water was a bit warm this time of year . Also gym where you can get a good work out . Location is good and you can walk to most places , only a block from the water . Staff friendly and helpful . Good value for what we paid .

In this hotel everything is old and need a renovation or replacement, the breakfast was good though. We made a reservation for a deluxe room seaview, which we did not get in the first place. After asking why we didn't get the room we booked we got the room. The walls are thin, this is certainly not a 3 star, at most 1,5.
For the price they charge you'd better go to another hotel.

At the swimmingpool there is a pool with girls wearing sexy dresses to lure men. When we came back at the hotel at 10 pm an elderly man with was at the reception with a vietnamese girl booked a room for one night. We noticed the majority of the guests are men. Very questionable what is happening at the hotel. This hotel is certainly not suitable for families with kids if you have 'strict' ethics.

Was in town for one night. The palace hotel was full so stayed here instead. The place is in a major time warp circa 1980. It is clean, the room was big and the staff were friendly. Expat bar next door and number off massage parlours close by. Therefore this is a business traveller hotel. Not a honey moon place ,etc. breakfast was passable but not great. I would try a different hotel next time. Swimming pool next door only has a few sun loungers. Cash machine next door which is handy.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room.
