We stayed at this hotel during the New Year's holidays in lake view room. Rooms are simple but clean and with great views of the lake and with little balcony. Beautiful gardens and landscaping. Very relaxing. Room attendant was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed sleeping with the sounds of the lakes and fauna. Guests go to bed early but also wake up early and then you hear guests departing with rolling suitcases on the pavements. We enjoyed the simple but very tasteful local cuisine. Breakfast consists of pineapple fruit, fried egg, toast and jelly or Indonesian nasi goreng.'Garden furniture' could be more inviting. All in all the best and most quiet place in Samosir. No frills, easy going, simple but lots of local charm.

Room Tip: Defintely book a lake view "deluxw room". It is worth it.

This hotel does not escape the faith of the Sumatran resorts: Big hotel from Dutch era and just after, very run down facilities, poor breakfast, but lovely outdoor. I think most reviews below sum it up pretty well: awesome lake view, cute terrace long the water but the rest has no charm. Rooms are run down and have very eclectic furnitures (attempt to fix a few things?) but CLEAN :) We slept pretty well on the bed. However: they do not provide you with a bottle of water (which even the cheapest guest houses does), they make you pay for a very slow internet (not even wifi), the restaurant looks like an old business centre and the service is just appalling, just like the breakfast! The breakfast was serious up to the standard of the worst guest houses! To sum up, only groups with tours come here - like us :( so try to avoid as Smaosir is pretty cute and I am sure you can find much better.

It is also a quiet place to rest for the night, but our experience that early morning from 5.00 - 7.30 am was bad due to the inconsiderate guests (a group from Jakarta) that made so much noise outside the room which shouting, laughing and loud chatting among themselves.
The hotel authorities should have done something about it in order not to disturb other guests especially at this wee hours - remember others are still sleeping.
Otherwise the place is quite nice, good view of the peaceful lake. At night its cooling, we slept with the windows open (no air-con) to get the fresh air from the lake. The food is just moderate. There are a few shops around outside the hotel area where you can buy drinks, snacks and food. Recommended for simple travelers.

Room Tip: choose the rooms facing the lake and on higher ground.

If you can get refurbished rooms facing the lake - experience lovely. Very clean and comfortable. Tuk Tuk and the whole island of Samosir great. Joined Horas Hash House Harriers event had a wonderful time. Hotel very busy but able to cope with busy crowd. Meals were good.

A better and cleaner resort compared with the resorts nearby, overlooking the lake. Rooms are a bit run down and bed is not so comfy but it's acceptable for me. No fan and air-conditioning in the room, so be sure you visit the place at the right season. Bring mosquitoes repellent or coil if you wish to sleep with door opened since there is no fan in the room. No hair dryer and I am not sure if they provide the facility from the house keeping.

A tip to get cheaper souvenier in Ambarita village where the stone chairs are situated, do not buy them from the stalls near to the stone chairs, go further out where you came in and the stalls offer much cheaper price. You need a good negotiation skill as they can mark up the price a lot.

Cycling is impossible near by the resort as the place is huge, suggest you rent a motorcycle to go around.

The stalls outside the resort close early during weekday, so be sure to go early for beer, water, or junk food. Make sure you have a torch light with you as some streets can be very dark at night.

Room Tip: Request for near room to the reception if you have a very big luggage unless you don't mind payi...

Large resort hotel overlooking lake with swimming access. Large simple rooms.
Frequented by tour groups who can be extremely noisy.
Staff pleasant.

Totally decent place to stay in Tuk-Tuk. The room was big and clean, but pretty run down.. The amazing view from the porch was making up for everything else though.

Breakfast included in the price, western or Asian style. Far from exciting, but definitely OK as a start of the day. The staff did their best to keep us satisfied, but there was some language barriers.

If you're looking for a quiet getaway close to the water, you're going to like this. Multiple places to sit down along the water and enjoy a book or two!
