I was there on 3rd to 4th May, 2014.

if you are looking for a beach holiday, overall, bintan is not for you. no one swimming in the beach. Only on rare occasions, I do see someone doing beach activities at argo, with minimum pax to play the activities.

if you are looking for a weekend holidays, you can consider this place.
from Tanah merah terminal to Tanjong Pinang - 2 hours 15mins on quite a old boat. I took falcon 5 ship.
from Tanjong Pinang to Sahid - 1 hour

I took up a tour package, and it is not worth the money. after doing the 1 hour massage, I reach sahid at around 4pm bintan time. Sunset at around 6pm, bintan time.

Overthere, the full renovations were not completed yet. but then, it don't really affect me. There seems to be a Jacuzzi on the way on 4th Floor. this hotel was about 200m away from the beach. There is a buggy car bringing you to the beach, at stated time, the hotel personnel would come and bring you back.

The beach, has no guards, 1 road across the hotel. it is still very unsafe to swim at the beach or chill out at the beach.

Swimming pool is clean, with a 70cm and 125cm depth difference. Should you want to do any beach activities, they have free transport to argo beach till 6pm. after 6pm would cost you $5 sgd to and fro.

Due to the short time available, I need to leave the hotel at 3pm, other than land and massage, I did not use any single of package activities.

bicycle wise, hotel is at the upslope. nearby are all resorts. no shopping can be done.

breakfast is nice. overall, with the effort taken to go all the way there, the quality of the enjoyment, the money spent, this is not worth it.

by the way, there is not need to change into rupiah. you can easily pay with sgd. exchange rate range from 7800~9100 : 1 sgd.

First of all, it is an hour or two for us to reach the destination from the ferry terminal. We had to take a cab there. So thats fine.

Upon check-in the staff were friendly and offered welcome drinks. Honeymoon decorations was made upon request i made weeks before. Was really happy there. Not till i find out that there's not much convinience and activities. Its like you're stuck there.Fine, we ordered room service dining. The food was okay but its mad expensive for meals like that. After settling down, we found out that our flush is not working and also the water heater. Called the room service and they told us to change rooms. My goodness i need to pack again.

After changing rooms, it was better. The next morning, the room kept having a black out for 5 times. When we were sleeping! We were sweating when we sleeping. So unconvinient.
The breakfast, has 'buffet' trays but empty. So they asked if we want Fried Rice or Fried Noodles only. Fine.

Stucked in the room with no fun activities to do around so we rent the bicycle which is expensive $5 per hour. Cycle around and found afew small shops to buy our food since the food in the hotel was too expensive. Its around 3-4KM.

3rd day. Decided to try the pool, IT WAS DIRTY. SERIOUSLY? And oh about the wifi, try to get a room near to the lift, you'll get a good strength. Zero connection at the lobby. The irony. We rent a bike too which is also too ex for an hour. $10 per hour! Bought our needs and back to the hotel.

Last day, FINALLY OUT OF THIS HOTEL. Breakfast was as normal not to a hotel standard. Had a free transport back to the ferry. Glad that there was no queue for the transport.

Afterall, this hotel arent worth the money. Regret staying here and there's better hotels around.

Room Tip: Choose a room near the lift for wifi in room

Disappointed on our 1st visit!

I usually see the Up side of hotels… for our enjoyment…. But this oh..oh….oh????
Fortunately, it was a weekend (one-night) stay in this. …Horrible Place.
Travel time – 2hrs ferry ride from Singapore Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Tanjung Pinang Ferry Terminal.
1 hr from ferry terminal to hotel – Total 3hrs travelling time.

Reception – No proper system or signs to indicate check-in or check-out.
Chaotic! Lobby is too small…pool user were sitting in the lobby too.
Checking out was another madness…lucky for us we did an early check out –11am.
Room key card – doesn’t work! Got to get staff to replace it.
Transport to terminals - 1st come 1st served so good luck...plan early check out
F & B and shops around terminal....nothing much.

Pool – over crowded!

No sheltered walkways to rooms…. it was raining when we checked-in.
Given an umbrella…but broken halfway to the next building (rooms).

Plenty of mosquito’s………..got sting all over.

Room – looks good at 1st.
In the night – woken up by knocking/ banging of room doors – lasted some time.
That’s not all…toilet light & air-con keeps going off and switching on every 10 to 15 mins. Like someone or something is playing a game…went on & on. We decided to sleep anyway!
Morning – no water for wash-up. Got to get help from the staff.

Food – Flies were over the food…..OMG!
During breakfast - I witness a staff placing a jar on the floor behind the counter & poring cordial in & stirring it.
Preparation of any drinks or food, should not be on the floor…that’s is a no-no!
Room Service – plates were left outside some rooms…were not cleared, left overnight…attracting ants and flies…. Terrible sight!

Beach – is about 5-10mins away from hotel.
The dirt and oil floating along the beach was an awful sight.

To all travellers – don’t waste time & money here.
I heard, there are better accommodations on the other side of this island.

As for us, we had enough of Bintan!

OK, if you want class in all aspects. you can stop reading this review. This hotel is not for you. Certainly not up to the class of banyan or nirvana, ( keep in mind you are not paying $500 + per night either)..I paid 110 sgd per night and this is what i got..

Pick up from ferry : Spot on. Hotel staff waiting at the lobby as promised. No issues. Journey ..too long to the hotel, 1 hour at the least... ummm, not to my taste. But the free pick up and drop makes up.

Location: When you enter, dont be surprised if you cant find a garden or greenery.. the hotel is nicely tucked away. there are no obvious give away signs for the hotel ..

Reception: Gives a very amateur feel, but staff very friendly to help out. So overall you look suspicious of the quality in the offing.

Rooms: Cant fault the sea view from the rooms. the rooms and cleanliness are very good. the lifts are either under repair or most probably not set up at all. ( there is only one Lift).. the negativity of no lifts balances most of the positives of the room.

Room Service: Umm, iam thinking of something nice to say... slow to very slow. coffee cold....but otherwise ok

Wifi: Zero Wifi...And I mean it... so bye bye to facebook, watsapp, twitter... The manager gave some story of the whole indonesian network being down.. I would like to hear from other passengers about this... But for me no wifi = no booking. and iam going to take this up with booking .com. ( cleary says free wifi available)

Restaurant : Free breakfast , a buffet. food OK, staff excellent, but total chaos and they couldn't handle the crowd. ( probably bcos it was Chinese new year).. Clients had to constantly remind the staff for different food dishes being empty!
not trained to handle, the table, the cutlery, nothing... in all extremely amateur... with no organised flow... Iam sure a floor manager could help... Yes breakfast was free... food ok, staff friendly, views from the restaurant very good.. All these make up in some way. overall i was left a bit disappointed.

Oh btw, ordering at lunch time was more of a meditation exercise. atleast an hour before the order is served. But cant fault the food. all the local cuisine preparations were excellent. fish and chips just ok and the lamb steaks - pathetic. a good tip for travellers, order local food.. you will like the food. Iam not all for pessimism. The fish in banana lead was a delight. if you thought you had all you wanted to be patient, you can learn a lesson or two here. The staff dont speak much of english. Not their fault. I wouldnt expect them to hear europeans speaking to them in indonesian when they visit europe... Staff extremely friendly and helpful. This offsets most of the daunts again... ( management take note....if not for your friendly staff, you will be pulling your shutters very soon)

Buffet dinner with live band was actually very good. book the place in advance,

Ok Now the good things:

Even though it is in the middle of no where, there is a decent beach across the road. With a free buggy service you can get there in a minute.

The buggys also take you to nearby sea food restaurant ( in which service was rather a joke, but food was good).

TBC, Trikora beach club is about 2 K away. the hotel will drop you and pick up...

Mangrove about 20 mins with a lovely sunset and firefly visit..

So it all depends what you want to get there for in the first place.. if you want to pay 500 for banyan go there for all the activities. you will not get them here. But if you want a nice, decent geataway, with staff working over and above the line of duty to make you stay comfortable, this is worth a try...

I cant say i was dissapointed. Rather I would say, i was satisfied and thanked all staff when i left.

Iam sure with some orderliness and refinement in the logistics, this place will soon be rating high on tripadvisor.

Good luck and thank you to the staff at Shahid Bintan. ( Andri, Cindy, Setiawati, to name a few)

Room Tip: sea view rooms..
