I was hesitating between Kohan and Silk Road; the latter was Lonely Planet´s top choice and is very popular among backpackers. In the end I chose the Kohan based on some traveler´s recommendations and I'm so glad I did. It´s located right in the middle of the old city, so it doesn´t get any quieter that that probably in the entire country. Literally, you hear nothing except the gentle footsteps of other travelers who wander in the courtyard. Everything is withing walking distance: shops, restaurants, squares, museums, mosques, etc.. They´ll help you arrange transport to and from the bus station.
It has free wi-fi and it works well; breakfast is simple but abundant (cucumbers, tomatoes, eggs, bread, tea, jam); they have a coffee-shop / restaurant that offers a small menu, but the food is absolutely fantastic.
The rooms are spacious (I stayed in a double room with private B/R) and very clean. There are two courtyards: the larger one is beautiful and well taken care of (they even have jasmine flowers in it so when you walk in it in the morning you can smell the jasmine scent).
Since it´s family run, the staff really do their best to help you and make you feel welcome. I would absolutely recommend the Kohan because of the location, quietness, cleanliness and value for money: a double room was something like USD$13.00.More
