“A peaceful haven with a view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

We stayed overnight at Maili Saba Camp on our way to Kisumu and what a lovely choice. It sits on the Menengai crater so has spectacular views from all the tents. From our arrival to departure the service was excellent and the food some of the best I have had since being in Nairobi. Tents were clean and bed comfy with a hot water bottle for the chilly nights, one of the best and most peaceful sleeps I have had in a long while. Shower was a bit tricky but water warm so not too bad.

This was a nice spot to take a group of interns to debrief after spending two months doing humanitarian work in Kenya. The view is magnificent and the food was amazing. The staff was friendly, personal and flexible to accommodate our schedule and needs. The drink prices (soda, water and wine) were a little above average and we did not receive a key/lock for our tented room. This will not keep us from returning again.

Service, views, comfort, guided hike- all exceptional. The tents are very comfortable, nights are cool so we loved the foot warmers. The food was delicious and well presented. Dining area was magical at night- a fire, soft lights that glowed, and quiet. The lodge works with a local agency to provide education and experience for locals in the business- great to be able to support this important work.

Maili Saba has an incredible view of the crater well worth seeing! It's a lovely surprise off the beaten path and well worth visiting. Very close to Nakuru National Park and an excellent alternative to staying in the park with it's associated game park fees. For the price, it's quite a good deal. The food service is excellent with cooked meals instead of buffet style. Very good showers with hot water. If driving there, turn off NBo-Nakuru highway between Shell station and Kunst Hotel. Drive about 8 km looking for the defunct Saba Filling Station on your left. When you see it, immediately turn left onto dirt road. Follow road about 1 km and you'll find the place. Staff are very nice and friendly.

Room Tip: All tents are very nice. Most have an annex room with 2 beds. Rooms on edge of crater are especial...

We were welcomed with a fresh iced passion fruit juice and incredibly friendly and able staff. Our room had a stunning view of the crater. The surroundings are peaceful and there is a true sense of serenity in the camp. Rooms are simple tented lodges with comfortable beds and warm water.
The restaurant area is beautiful, again simple with a great atmosphere and attentive waiters and waitresses which are consistent with the high quality of fresh food which is well presented and of a quality above everything we've had in Nakuru.
I would definitely recommend this for anyone including if you have small children. We do and they were brilliant with him.
Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

We spent 2 nights here in Jan 2013. The view is amazing, the food excellent and the service is superb. The staff really put in the extra effort to make sure everything is right. The management were able to book us a car and driver to take us to Nakuru national park, a short drive away, they provided provided a great picnic basket and were on hand to meet us on our return asking how everything went.
All in all, it's probably the best service I've experienced in a hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a banda on the edge of the crater, the view is breathtaking
