“Relaxation at the end of a tough tour!”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

After the truly back breaking hour and a half road to get to the hotel you can see a wonderful aspect. The hotel, and guest bungalows, and set literally on the beach overlooking the Mozambique channel.

The bungalows are basic. I really did not like the way they were 'open' in respect that the room and walls didn't meet. It had clear air all the way around so the bugs came in thick and fast and it didn't feel terribly safe. There was also a bird nesting inside in the roof so the top bed was out of bounds due to the little gifts left on the bed!

My major quibble with the rooms is that there was not one plug in the room to charge anything. You had to charge anything in the reception area and leave your items alone to charge which is really odd!

The staff here were very lovely and the food was probably the best out of anywhere on our stay (not difficult). They were also very good as if we didn't want the three course lunch on the menu they would rustle up a sandwich.

All in all a pleasant stay if you just want to sit and read by the pool.

Room Tip: Ensure you request front line beach

Pleasant comfortable hotel at the end of a long difficult journey on a very rutted, sandy road.
Our room was situated on the sand dunes overlooking the sea. The main building was comfortable with terrace overlooking the sea. Staff friendly, food good with entertainment on one night of our stay. Highlight of stay was the mouse lemurs in the trees around the hotel entrance.
Lovely infinity pool with loungers and towels on hand.

We did like this place a lot, but with some reservations. The location is splendid despite the dodgy road to get there (we had to get out and push).. Thatched "cottages" set on sand dunes virtually on the beach. There are basically 2 rows of cottages and two types. We had a detached one right by the beach. There is a second row behind (not much view of the sea) and some what looked like bigger semi-detached cottages, also next to the sea. Our place had 2 floors, double bed below and twin upstairs. The spiral staircase was a bit dangerous (no handrail and could bang your head). The best mosquito nets we had anywhere and a good bathroom. Overall, the cottage was very attractive and spacious, with a nice forecourt looking out to see and 2 sunbeds in the sand dunes. Clean and well-aired (quite a lot of gaps, which was good as it was very hot most of the time except one day when it was so windy we had to stay indoors most of the day).

We loved the restaurant, good food and service. The manageress was lovely and always seemed to be there. Food is mainly style with some Malagassy dishes. You can see them baking bread in an outside oven. On our last night a band and dancers arrived from the local village. Good range of fruit and eggs for breakfast, which is taken on a verandah looking out to sea. Lunches were good but they don't really do snacks (pizzas etc). It is a 3-course meal but you can order just one course.

Swimming pool is good and pool towels are provided. An added bonus for this hotel is the large grounds of prickly forest, through which there is a (rather hard to follow) nature trail. There are some good birds to see and, apparently, mouse lemurs at night. The hotel is also well[-located for Reniala Forest which is well worth a visit.

Our only problem with this hotel was the beach. It is quite nice and sandy but the sea is really too shallow to swim although lovely and warm. We did manage a quick paddle but then we got spotted by some local people who bothered us by trying to sell us massages etc. Whenever you step on the beach they target you. Consequently there is nobody from the hotel on the beach. We even had a couple of local children looking in our window early one morning (the hotel is not fenced and is open to the beach). Some other guests did have a pirogue trip but were a bit disappointed as they were with the snorkelling.

Miles from anywhere, good if you want a beach break, but be warned that the drive to get there is back breaking. Not much animal life about but the Malagasy live in true poverty. Food not bad but not worth the drive there

This hotel is directly on the beach - same the bungalows- we had one on two floors directly facing the sunset (at groundfloor there is a living room with bathroom and at first floor a big room with the bed and mosquito net) - the restaurant offer a wide variety of good food - the fantastc reception offers in the morning the possibility of whale watching (we saw 20 whales - a spectacle) at a good price with a speed boat - CETA MADA girl is resident there and follow guests during whale watching. The hotel is very clean. The beach is white and soft. There is a nice swimming pool to relax.

Room Tip: Bungalow on the beach - N. 44 - Sunset is just in front of your bungalow.

We loved the bungalow above the beach here at Le Paradisier. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to assist. We could have stayed longer but enjoyed the pool, a massage and a morning trip to the Raniela Nature Reserve to see baobabs and a huge range of insects and even a tenrec.

The hotel has a walk through its own spiny forest so if you're interested in plants and birds, it's a lovely option. We also took a pirogue out to the coral reef for some snorkelling and enjoyed being on the water.

Food was wonderful and don't forget to drink Fresh.

We had the suite here which is down on the beach, away from the other rooms - very nice too, with a big balcony and hammock overlooking the beach.
(Infinity) pool is great.
Food was generally very good.
Massage was good and excellent value, right down by the beach.
Nice place to unwind for a couple of days.

Room Tip: Suite was very private and away from everything else.
