“Lousy resort”
Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

This is very lousy resort that I have been. The facilities in the room can't function, air conditioning and minibar are not cool, the television is no sound. This resort really very bad it not worth for me to pay high price to come here

Great for family or couples. More expensive than most resorts in Port Dickson but one of the best around. Recommended for those wanting a truly resort feel with greenery all around. Can be quite packed during holiday season so book early. Resort is a bit dated but well kept. Service is good but food is average. Full facilities for all activities or just lounging about.

The resort is beautiful and has nice unusual touches like a petting farm, with peacocks, pen-hens and roosters roaming around; reflexology path; spice garden

We stayed at the water chalet which had a nice rain shower, nice firm 4 poster bed, and cosy day bed facing the sea. Unfortunately, the Aircon and toilet flush was not working, but the maintainence crew was quick to fix it.

Breakfast buffet was ok in quality and variety , but again had nice touches like made to order roti canai; DIY roti Bakar - which is not commonly seen.

Had lunch and dinner at the Crows Nest - Asian food like the chicken rice and nasi goreng were really good, but western food was so so. Portions were generous . Price was 30-60 ringgit - kinda of pricey but expected in a resort .

The resort shows it's age - board walk planks are loose, water sports equipment not well maintained. Service is friendly, but laid back and not really polished .

If you come with the right expectations - I.e shouldn't complain of insects in tropical weather; Shangri-la level service in small town like PD - you'll have a good time.

Visited PD for a weekend. The hotel itself is very unique: petting zoo and the peacock's roaming around were fun. The reflexology garden was nice dialy challenge and the adult only pool was wonderful! Very cool design, awesome rain fall open shower. We even got one of the hotel staff to help arrange for a jetski rental from local for us.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. However, for the setting I would have expected impeccable service. The reality was more like waiting over 30 min for food or drink orders; on Sunday morning we were also told that the buffet breakfast was full and were not offered an alternative or an estimated waiting time. Check in and check out was also fairly painful. There were usually 3 of the 5 or 6 staff members working on one customer while a queue grew longer. And no obvious attempts were made to expedite service to those waiting patiently.

When we were turned away from the breakfast buffet we checked out early (beating the crowd) as we couldn't get out of there fast enough. Maybe if there was a change in management or attitude towards hospitality I would stay there again.

It is really unfortunate because the hotel has enormous potential, the facilities are gorgeous but the service is average, at best.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms that are farthest out on the piers, for a more quiet experience

Thank you very much for taking precious time off to address the unfortunate incidents encountered during your recent stay.

We regret to note these which fell short of both our expectations in terms of service levels rendered by the resort team for your stay.

There is no excuse for such service standards at the Resort. However, we do assure you that this is not the norm for the Avillion; and we will most definitely address operational matters to improve on areas noted

A year ago, we started scouting for locations to have our destination wedding. We set our eyes on Avillion PD because of the beautiful Tumasek beach. We thought it would be an awesome place to have a small wedding reception.

We were excited - only to have an unpleasant start with the sales person. The sales person from the sales office was not responsive, and half the time, we had to be the one chasing him down for quotations and other info with regards to the wedding. We let it slide, in hope that things will be better when we deal with the staff at the hotel itself. After paying the deposit, the sales person vanished. One of the worst has got to be the fact that he did no passdown all the details we have discussed earlier to the person in charge at the hotel. When we went to PD to meet with the PIC, we had to go through all the details again. It was a waste of everyone's time.

The person in charge of our account at the hotel was super nice. She was very helpful and has helped us sort out all the necessary details. However, that was as much there is that the hotel has to offer.

Here are some of the unfortunate events that have happened throughout the entire process:
1. 2 of our guests' reservations were not made. The hotel claims it was the fault of the guests for not responding. The guests have not received any emails whatsoever from the sales office.

2. We were brought to the AviSpa and was given a chance to view the place when we did a site visit. We thought it would be good if we could have some wedding shots taken at the spa and was told we can do so. We went on the day of the wedding, all dressed up, only to have our request declined. We later got to know that we had to made reservations upfront, which was something that was not made known to us. We were also told that we need to pay an additional substantial amount to have our photos taken there, if we insist on doing the photo shoot.

3. We asked for a discounted rate since we had guests who wants to stay at the hotel during the wedding. Instead of trying to give us a reasonable discounted price, we were asked to ask our guests to book from Matta Fair instead. We would have thought the hotel would want to aim for giving the best conveniences to their guest, but apparently for Avillion PD, that's not the case.

4. Services at the hotel are extremely slow. It takes the porter about 20-30 mins to get to the rooms to get our luggage out. In fact, one of our guests had to call 4 times.

5. It is difficult to communicate with some of the hotel staff. We wanted to have the porter's help to move some wine out to the lobby but due to the lack of understanding, we moved the crate of wine ourselves.

6. It has been agreed upfront that all our guests' room come with breakfast. And yet, breakfast coupons were not given upon check-in, and guests have to call to confirm a few times before the coupons were given.

7. After countless emails, and the fact that I've had them corrected my name when I check in, my name is still spelled incorrectly. And it's not a consistent error as there were a lot of versions of my name.

As an award winning hotel, it was very astonishing to have such an unpleasant experience at the hotel and before we got to the hotel, almost making the awards questionable. The above are just among some of the examples that we have experienced. We have also heard other unpleasant experience from our guests as well.

Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Stayed last weekend (16-18 May) with 3 kids under 8. Our room was water chalet 617 in Cochin. Had twin beds and one day bed the size of a queen bed. Enough to fit everyone. View of the sea was limited but not too bad. Not too noisy. Overall it was a good weekend break. Kids had fun in the kiddies pool with its slide, and the beach was lovely. We headed out to have seafood dinner at Sri Mesra. The food wasn't exceptional but not too bad. The 2nd night we decided to order room service; pizza and pasta. They weren't so good.
- No valet and parking is only available across the road where there's heavy traffic. Hubby had to drop the luggage, myself and kids at the lobby before parking the car. It's a bit of a problem when it rains.
- Mosquitoes. It's a tropical country after all. Just remember to shut all doors and windows come dusk.
- Packed full during weekends. It's a popular resort for corporate teambuilding, family days, and weddings. Come to breakfast early to avoid having to wait for available tables. Although there were separate breakfast venues to cater for large groups.
- Kids loved the beach (Temasek) and the pets farm. Plenty of rabbits, hens, roosters. And peacocks. Feeding time is at 10am.
- The other beach, Riau, was full most of the time. There was a wedding and family day activities going on. Music was on pretty loud half the day.
- The resort is situated under a flight path for planes heading towards Sepang. Expect to hear them fly over your head every 10-15 mins. We were heavy sleepers so weren't too bothered.
Overall we had a good time, even though it rained half the time.
